Just checked out his IMDB page - seems he and I have crossed paths numerous times - including on the infamous "Christmas Carol".... but I'm not sure that we've ever met.

TVChild3 In the industry it became a term for when a scene is made incredibly hard for an unneeded action. Nowadays most of those shots end up being cut. But in this you couldn't reshoot.

Cool World has some amazing animation in it. But it doesn't interact well with the live action like it does in Roger Rabbit.

Cool World has great art style, but they had limited time, money and support to really make the film what it could have been: an adult horror fantasy. Instead, it is a mash-up of weird scenes, unfinished animation, and nonsense.

Best channel on RU-vid. Its people like Kaptain that deserve to be spotlighted creators on this site.

They would make high budget 2D animation like they did with princess and the frog, if you would go see it so that it makes more than 267 million at box office compared to Frozen's 1.276 billion box office gross. Animated films are a business as much as they are a passion.

It's pretty timeless, too. I think this movie fits just as much to people today as it did when it released. I might be a bit biased because I was a kid from the Saturday morning cartoon era, but I think as long as you grew up with good cartoons (which most people have, thanks to stuff like Cartoon Network) you can appreciate this movie.

To be fair, he's covered Superman, Batman, Pokémon, South Park, etc. Most of what he covers is fairly recognizable to your average millennial [1980s-2000s] who grew up in the West. It's not _that_ obscure or vague.

Yeah but using Superman as an example, he talks about the Fleischer cartoons. What I meant was he doesn't cover "hot topics", he does do videos on famous properties but most of the time he will look at different aspects of said properties to most.

Goomboid I agree that's why people come, but its kind of sad too because most people in the comments section clearly have never seen the movie and the same goes for the other videos Kristian makes. It goes to show that a lot of the videos he makes are on underrated pieces.

Yeah, more like "because *studios are greedy* (and don't give the animation production crew the the opportunity to even try to "bump the lamp," because that requires investing money into hiring [X] number of animators & paying them to work for the necessary [Y] number of hours)." In general I hate when animation is shit on, because we know there are movies & shows with great animation...which means great animation is 100% attainable...People know how to do it. The tools are available. The work required to make the good animation is 100% available to be done... *it just needs to be paid for* properly! Good animation isn't some "secret recipe" with "secret ingredients" that only one studio can have. It's not a mystery why a well animated piece of media is well animated. The only thing stopping a studio from copying the good animation is...money. They just need to hire a team of animators who can get the same level & amount of work done. Now, I do acknowledge that the decision to not invest in good animation is not always just pure greed...sometimes the budget genuinely isn't available (like for tiny studios, or about to be bankrupt studios, etc.)...but the consequence is the same: "Bumping the lamp" isn't finished in time because no one was paid to help finish it! You don't get to not pay someone to do a job...and then complain when the consequences of your (in)actions include the job not being done...(or done poorly, because you only hired 5 people to do a job in a timeframe that in reality needed a crew of 10+). _(This goes for so much of media production...and all work at this point...people acting entitled & shitting on understaffed, over worked crew that has a job that can't be completed properly in time no matter how much over time is racked up.)_ Sorry /end rant lol

Well this wouldn't be very good for math class, but obviously his videos would be perfect for a media studies class.

You think bumping the lamp or maintaining an eyeline didn't involve any trigonometry? Think about all the angles and scaling involved in the animation. Never mind all the trigonometry in electrical engineering that allows the practical team to rig up precision servos. All this animation artistry isn't just about passion and creativity and being able to "draw good". You actually need math in order to achieve technical excellence.

Actually the Pythagorean Theorem could be taught in a fascinating way, too. The history behind it and the theorems implications are amazing. I hate math as much as the next person, but don't diss Pythagoras the Samian, mate.

If it makes you feel better, I'm a high school teacher and I show his videos in class if they're relevant (the one on story, for instance, helped in talking about short stories and the significance of reading/interpreting fiction). I have my students do a video essay project, and I tell them, "Aim for the style and substance of KaptainKristian."

Man, that's awesome! I'm glad that you do that, because his gift should definitely be spread to as many people as possible. He may be the best critic I've ever heard talk about subjects I've never really thought about before. That is the whole magic in it, is he is making us "think."

He should do one about how The Matrix succeeded at using anime tropes in Hollywood. Maybe after Ghost in the Shell(remake) comes out so he has a failure to contrast it with like the Roger Rabbit Vs. Cool World, y'know. Cowboy Bebop is great and, sure, a lot of anime that followed stole from it but the same is true of Neon Genesis Evangelion... I don't really have a point.

An odd case but I think the movie Kamikaze Girls (Shimotsuma Story-Yankee Girl & Lolita Girl) is actually better than the book. The book has a couple of extra scene which are nice but the movie is one of the most well directed and amazing things I've seen. Turns everything from the book up to 11.
