That would probably explain during the whole club scene why Betty Boop is the only toon there that Eddie seems to get along with. Sure, she is good looking by 1920’s standards, but she’s also much more classy, witty, and restrained than most of the toons around her. In most of her shorts, Betty was sort of the straight man to all of the insanity playing out as opposed to the one causing said insanity.

I've seen another RU-vid video where someone pointed out that, if you look really close, you can see a Betty Boop doll in Eddie's office. This implies that he was a fan of hers when he was younger and still has some respect for her, which is why he's so shocked to see she's now reduced to waiting tables ("Business has been slow since toons went to colour").

It's always odd hearing Bob Hoskins' natural British accent. For probably half my life or more, I had no idea he was British. His American accent, which he used in nearly everything I saw him in, was so spot on that I didn't even question it. I never saw him in interviews, just on film. It was so spot on that, when he actually speaks with a British accent in the movie "Hook", THAT sounded more like him doing an accent than his American accent was. It was only later, when I heard him actually interviewed, that I found out he was British. However, as I said, most my life I thought his natural speaking voice was that gruff Eddie Valient/Mario (from that horrible live-action movie) voice. He probably had the best American accent of any British actor ever.

Mystic--I know what you mean. HFRR was the first film I saw him in and I thought he did a fantastic job. Then I saw Maid In Manhattan, and thought, "ok, the guy can do a proper upper-crust British accent." Then I found out the truth. There's a couple of really good videos on Bob here on RU-vid. A lot of his stuff was in British films where he did a number of different Brit accents, but he was a very good at probably doing whatever accent the directors needed. Another actor like him is Gary Oldman.

I had no idea he was British until I watched this video just now. This is the first time I've heard his natural accent. Then again, WFRR (and, admittedly, the Super Mario Bros movie) were the only things I've seen him in, to my knowledge. May have seen bits and pieces of Hook (like, five or ten minutes total 20-ish years ago) but not the whole thing.

Out of RU-vid critics that use an animated avatar, and actually attempt to animate it instead of just using stills, you are still somehow doing the best job I've seen on this platform with the expressions and lipsyncing despite using the most outdated early 2000's flash graphics. I am actually impressed. Good job. And I really do want to emphasize _critics_ as I know there are brilliant animators here doing their own thing. All that I really want to say here is that a lot of people do a really half-assed job with animating their avatars.

In regard to Chuck Jones' distaste for the film, a lot of his criticism really came from, as he stated in an interview, the film paying more attention to the live-action aspect of it than the animation one, plus he had come to regard his take on Daffy as being the definite form of the character, and therefore regarded how the piano duet scene ended up being as a bit of a backward step - but that was kind of the point Spielberg was making; back in 1947 Daffy wasn't yet the character that Chuck Jones would define him as in the best of his work which came in the 1950s; Daffy was still in 1947 what I would call 'young Daffy'. Furthermore, whilst indeed some of us wish the animated stars had more of a role to play than they did, the point the film makes is that it is foremost Eddie Valiant's story, with Roger Rabbit himself being a constant helping him every step of the way. Regards, Samuel Farris.

if I remember correctly, Both WB and Disney were so anal about sharing screen time that they insisted that they count the frames of film the respective characters were in. so "38 seconds" wasn't enough. they wanted to make sure that the other didn't get a single frame more than their own character.

I'm pretty sure the behind the scenes feature that's included on the DVD of the movie states that archival audio was used for some of Donald's lines, and I assume the dead wikipedia link was a link to a reupload of that feature. But you can also tell that archive audio was used. When Donald first speaks "hey cut it out, cut it out," you can tell that the audio sounds somewhat compressed. And compare that to when he says "Oh yeah", the quality of the audio is very different.
@eddache
@eddache 2 года назад
Nope. I have the DVD and Blu-Ray, the dead link is to a Nostalgia Critic video that cites IMDB that also has no source. I think the audio changes you've suggested are a reach. If there's an official source, I'll happily yield on this point, but it's nothing but speculation.

The only official Disney and Warner Bros crossover. Producer Steven Spielberg had negotiated deals with Warner Bros., Fleischer Studios, King Features Syndicate, Felix the Cat Productions, Turner Entertainment, and Universal Pictures/Walter Lantz Productions. However, not every famous cartoon character made it into the final film. Notably absent are Popeye, Olive Oyl, Bluto, Tom and Jerry, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Superman, Mighty Mouse and Raggedy Ann. (They would have appeared in a sequence set at Marvin Acme's funeral, but the scene was cut out for pacing reasons. These characters would have also been revealed to live in Toontown too.)

I truly love this movie because it shows that their is no boundary between our imagination and reality. The visual affects make it show that the characters can physically be present with the people, however the acting, emotions, and the plot really connects to what is happening with the real world. This movie portrays violence and drama, slapstick comedy in live action, jealousy among lovers, depression, identity issues, and even prejudice against living beings. I want to do things that involve with this kind of creativity and technology in the future

Oh my god, I'm literally crying I LOVE THIS FILM! No, I did not grow up with 1937 Daffy duck or 1934 Donald duck, but it helped through a lot, 3 months ago. I seriously grew obsessed with classic shorts. I began to be so fascinated with them I know everything there is to know about them, and personally, I think I know why Chuck Jones, the legendary director, and creator of Wile Coyote shorts, What's Opera Doc, and even some Tom and jerry shorts and so much more, that he was disappointed because the thing about this guy is when it comes to Chuck, each character has a motivation, if he directed it, both Donald or Daffy would fly off the walls, dancing, and fighting and dancing-no they would be singing, and possibly kissing at one point ( not gay, it's a classic joke that runs alot through cartoons) guys, if they let this guy direct the scene IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EPIC. and I would have been squealing like Porky pig even more and crying out of joy because how much that scene would mean to me and you know what, no matter what scene it is, even if both Donald and Daffy duck had a conversation sitting in a bench talking, watching paint dry and honestly, that would be very offensive and out right disgraceful to the cartoon industry, but I would still cry out of joy. Because I love Donald and Daffy, and watching them on screen just fills my heart with joy and happiness. And you know what, sure that scene wasn't revelount to the plot, but so what! That scene was so special, it was so important to fans that grew up with these shorts, sure I didn't I'm fifteen, but that doesn't mean it didn't have a place in my heart. Sigh, I'm the nostalgia kid I remember that because you don't have to. Good bye. While a few more Roger Rabbit shorts would be great....and WHY wasn't there at least one during the 3-D craze a few years ago?!...I don't want a sequel, despite how much I absolutely love this movie. Only Spielberg could've gotten all these characters from different studios together. Don't forget, years before the Disney Renaissance, he convinced that studio to let him use footage from their classic animated features in two movies he produced...and who ELSE could've helmed something like *Ready Player One* ? Studio politics being what they've been ever since he co-founded Dreamworks, this is a crossover that in all likelihood, none of us will see again in our lifetime. Although live-action/animation hybrids had been done before, it had never been done to this level of believability . It paved the way for everything from *Jurassic Park* to *The Mask* ,with CG-effect work eventually becoming so common in media, we no longer notice it if it's done right. Most important, it helped to bring back theatrical feature animation, a genre that had been treading water since the late 60's. Even the subversive work of Ralph Bakshi in the 70's couldn't raise it back up to the critical and commercial success it once enjoyed. Disney's mid-80's efforts to bring back animation might not have been as successful otherwise.

I don't want to dig this hole deeper than it is, actually never mind, I do. I am 110% sure that the first half of Donald's lines are in fact Clarence Nash. You have to admit that Donald's pitch does sound very different after he screams then yells "OH YEAH!?!" Tony's Donald has always been a bit more bubbly, while Clarance always sounded a lot more like a Duck. Whenever Tony yells, he sounds a lot more crisp and wavy, while Clarance's voice was more rough and crackly like you said. In this video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A4TiXQpgDVM.html , it shows that while their voices are very similar, there are those slight subtle differences that become easier to pick up when you re watch the duck fight. It's always possible that they slightly pitched up Nash's lines to sync better with Tony. It also makes sense when you think about it, perhaps someone really wanted to use the Nash recordings as a tribute since he had past only 3 years prior to the release, they even mention it in the behind the scenes video. Likely since it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to feature the officially licensed characters with their original voices. And the film had been in development since 1983 before Nash had past. I should also mention how the supposed Clarance recordings sound a bit more vintage and muffled, then Tony's lines are crispy clean, which is a lot more noticeable on Bluray with good sound. That's my argument at least.

I would actually like to see a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, or at least another movie set in the same world. With the advancements in cinematography, there's nearly no limits with what they could accomplish if they tried something like this again nowadays. A 'years later' movie would be great. You could even add in characters from other studios like Hannah Barbara and Cartoon Network. Now that I think about it, I'm actually surprised that a movie company in Japan hasn't tried to do this exact same thing with anime characters.

I would argue better than _most_ if not _all_ CG filled movies. CG ages terribly, but Roger Rabbit still looks fantastic 30 years after its initial release.

These videos are great and all but if I were to give one piece of constructive criticism it would be that the cartoon Eddie is kind of a lame idea. I'd have it be one static image with maybe two or three alternate expressions and have it be a digital painting. Something you would commission once and then just keep reusing for all your vids. Otherwise really enjoyable content.

Dear Hollywood, don’t you DARE remake, remaster, sequelize, prequelize, or special edition this movie. If you want to make a completely new movie with Spongebob working in a office with Scooby Doo while shrek runs a pub down the street then go ahead but leave Roger Rabbit alone.

I like their differing personalities...at first. Donald is usually trying to be happy and have a nice day, but he has a VERY short fuse. Daffy is just pretty much always on the hunt for confrontation. Once they both lose it, though, it's game on.

It’s kinda sad to know that several of the old guard in animation like Frank Thomas and Chuck Jones didn’t like the movie. Chuck Jones I kinda get because he’s just difficult as a person in general. Frank though, he really saw the missed potential. He wanted a more serious and soulful film that treated Roger like an actual rational individual with depths of feeling and humanity. As much as I love Roger, I do see what he means.
