You’d be right only if there are lane markings all the way till the end of the lane. If there aren’t, in Victoria State this video is correct. I remember going over this before trading in my licence there.

You don’t need to speed to be in front of another vehicle. And even if they are speeding, allow them to pass anyway.

When the law forces the OPEN lane to yield, this offers incredible incentive to get into the closing lane. In this way, you can leap frog literally hundreds of cars and all they can do, by law, is submit. Logically, every motorist will get into the closing lane, as all of the benefits accrue to motorists in that lane. If you’re not currently the vehicle in front, simply stand up in your car’s accelerator. Presto! Now you’re in front.

It doesn’t though, it forces anybody behind another vehicle to give way. It doesn’t matter which of the two lanes they’re in. This is Australia, not North America, however, so it probably doesn’t apply where you live

"The vehicle in front must be given way". But at what point is the vehicle, "the vehicle in front"? That is to say what if a short distance before the merge, the left vehicle is in front, but the right vehicle is driving slightly faster, and then becomes the vehicle in front? What if it's driven by the worst driver of all time, an Audi driver, who decides to speed past to be "the car in front"?

If I see someone driving at higher speed, I'll let them pass. Its not a race. In other hand, if the driver in front of me lift off throttle and slow down for unknown reason, I would be in front of him.

This isn't how it is the UK, here the car in the lane that is continuing has the right of way it's so to the car merging to adjust there speed and merge safety

Yes you’re right, but only for slow moving traffic, merge and turn, rule 134 of the Highway Code. At higher speeds, you both have to be courteous but it reverses.

@@tgm9991 Completely incorrect. There is no such thing as ‘right of way’ in the UK Highway Code, you will not find those words in that book. In a situation like this neither vehicle has priority over the other. Merging-in-turn is recommended. That is UK rule. For common sense purposes, giving way to whichever car is ahead is best as it aids best flow of traffic.

Nah, this applies to countries who drive on the left, so yeah no USA or Canada.

@@raphaeldelute9912It can technically apply to either, it's just that here in America certain things are illogical. Why would a car that is ahead and merging slow down?? It's just going to back up traffic on that lane. If it's behind it should yield, if it's ahead it should accelerate.

Well this is the example when two lanes becomes into one. Where drivers need to perform zipper merge. Generally two or more lanes, left lanes are for passing.
