I was predicting Bray Wyatt for the number one spot. He went from defending the WWE title at 33 to not even getting booked at 34, only appearing to help Matt Hardy on the preshow.
Becky Lynch went from throwaway elimination in the Women's throwaway Battle Royal, to winning the first ever Women's Main Event in Wrestlemania for both titles. Am amazed she wasn't #1 on here
From being just one of the girls happy to be there in WM34, to becoming The Man conquering The Queen and The Baddest Woman On The Planet on route to winning the Undisputed Women’s Championships in the historic first moment of the women main-eventing at WrestleMania35!!
Daniel Bryan from WM29 to WM30 was a huge improvement. Not to say that his team with Kane wasn't over, but it was still a midcard act, and on the next WrestleMania the event was basically built around him.
Or you could go the other way 30 to 31 main eventing in probably the most feel good moment in mania history to being just another guy in the intercontinental ladder match, right before injuries lead to another sabbatical
Daniel Bryan is still an active wrestler at the time of this reply but these days he's known as Bryan Danielson and performing for WWE's only stiff competition in quality Wrestling programs All Elite Wrestling.
@@RevanSecura I know but at the time Bryan had just come back from injury not too long before wm31 and even though people wanted him at the top he was in the IC ladder match, then he had a feud with Sheamus where he suffers a concussion that kept him on the shelf for a couple of years
Even with that, it was clear Mr. McMahon didn't want to commit to making Daniel Bryan a legitimate world champion which was further evident by his feud with Kane.
Are most people predicting Team Miller to go over Team Zane? IMO, I think Team Zane is gonna win because Zane has something that Simon does NOT have and that's intelligence. Brian Zane's team will prove that intelligence and being an underdog will conquer Simon's team.
Kinda surprised that Stone Cold mania 17 to 18 was chosen over mania 12 to 13. While his downward trajectory out of the company was compelling, Going from the Ringmaster fighting Savio Vega to wrestling Bret Hart in a Top 5 match in Company history definitely feels more significant.
I thought it was going to make the list...certainly much more drastic than going from one legendary wrestler to another, just in a different spot on the card.
Honorable mention for Austin from Mania XII to 13. From the Savio Vega match at XII, that was nothing more than a backdrop to the Piper/Goldust shenanigans, to being part of arguably the best match in Mania history the very next year.
I feel like Ted DiBiase going from WM 4 wrestling three times and in the main event for WWE title to a double count out with beefcake at WM5 could have been a serious contender here.
A strong honorable mention has to go to Ricky Steamboat. He scored a huge victory at Wrestlemania 3 and most people have forgotten that he was a part of Wrestlemania 4
At least Ricky Steamboat at _Wrestlemania 4_ was involved in the World title tournament on the show as opposed to some throw away filler match like the battle royal...
Surprised Brock Lesnar ain't on this list. His fall from 5 star main event to 0 star shitshow with Goldberg that the fans were against before the bell even rang has got to be a huge fall
Lesnar could technically be on here twice. Your example, and then WM29 losing to Triple H to WM30 beating the Undertaker's Streak and becoming the Beast Incarnate.
Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff went from Tag team with Roddy Piper in the first main event of Wrestlemania against Hogan and Mr. T to throwaway match against Don Murraco at WrestleMania 2
Honestly, I think one could make an argument for Pete Gas & Rodney of the Mean Street Posse for this concept, even if only slightly. They went from being never-trained best-friend-goons for Shane McMahon at Mania XV in his match against X-Pac for the European Title to both of them literally winning the Hardcore Title for short periods during the Hardcore Battle Royal at Mania 2000 (i.e. Mania XVI/16), with Gas getting busted open to one of the most gnarly extents in Mania history.
Which is up and which is down though, truthfully? 😂 They were in Shane's corner as a potentially dangerous wildcard presence at XV, I mean, they weren't, but they were portrayed as such. A year later they were the goofs famous for getting beaten up by everyone in their sweater vests. How I'm trying to put it, was better just being a potential wildcard or massive goofy losers everyone derided?
R.e. Austin at WM18: on Kurt Angle's podcast recently, Kurt mentioned there could have been Austin vs Angle at WM18 but the joining of the NWO to WWF put those plans on ice. Austin vs Angle at WM18 would have been an all time WM Classic - those two would have put on a barn burner. Oh what could have been ...
Except that they’d just just had a half year storyline wrap like 3 months prior. The match itself could have been good, but it would have felt like a retread at that particular time
I'm surprised Lex Luger isn't on this list: WrestleMania 10: Wrestled Yokozuna for the World Title WrestleMania 11: Wrestled a Tag Team Match (Not even vs the Tag Team Champions) in the opening match of the night.
Stone Cold should've had two entries on this list for his rise as well. He went from Million Dollar Champion in a nothing match at mania 12, to one of the hottest angles in wrestling at the time against Bret Hart the next year.
Batista going from 5th wheel in a 3 on 2 Handicap match at Wrestlemania 20 to all conquering babyface in one of the strongest pushes ever at Wrestlemania 21 is my favourite rise between Wrestlemania's
You forgot Shinsukee Nakamura. Won the RR faced AJ Styles for the WWE title in a disappointing performance at WM 34 to. . .I don't even remember what he did at Mania 35. He hasn't done much of anything spectacular sense. Maybe that performance is the reason why. Wyatt from 33 to 34 is pretty bad also.
Years ago, Brian Zane invaded Whatculture, teaming up with Grim to take on Adam Blampied and Adam Pacitti while they were in the company. Now, years later, Z-man takes it to Whatculture once again, this time against Simon Miller, who is now leading Whatculture. This will be a battle for the ages; it's Wrestling with Wregret vs Whatculture 2!!!
How about Ricky Steamboat from Wrestlemania III when he captured the Intercontinental Championship in an epic match with Randy Savage to losing to Greg Valentine in the first round at Wrestlemania IV? Or Bray Wyatt from beating John Cena at Wrestlemania 36 in a Firefly Fun House match to getting beat by Randy Orton after just one RKO the following year?
Luger went from a World Title match at Mania 10 to opening the show in a tag team match with Bulldog against the Blue Brothers. That probably deserved a mention.
Asuka Mania 34 to Mania 35 From winning the Rumble and putting the match of the night with Charlotte, to losing the Women's Battle Royal on the pre-show
I would say Batista had a bigger rise than Rollins between Manias. He went from a tag team with Evolution in the mid Card of the show in a feud that was more between Orton and Foley than anyone else in the match, to the Main Event of Mania the next year, winning the world title. I’d say that’s a pretty big jump from one year to the next. Rollins was in a dominate squash and I believe was a tag champ.
Bret Hart from WM 10 to WM 11. Two epic matches at WM10 (ending with his second world title win) to a lackluster submission match with Backlund. It kind of parallels what happened with Austin from WM17 to WM18.
Somehow, your match is the only thing I’m really looking forward to on wrestlemania weekend. The rivalry I didn’t know I wanted, but it makes perfect sense. I love it.
Very good video. I think you could have done 8 of only falls. There were a couple missing. Lex Luger from 10 to 11 & Paul Orndorff from 1 to 2 are two that came to mind. If you want to mention an entire match, take a look at the 8-man tag at WM8. It was a nothing match, but the previous year at WM7, half of the participants were in title matches - Slaughter (WWF Title), Bossman (I-C Title) & Nasty Boys (Tag Titles).
Both Slaughter & Boss Man from Mania 7 to 8 are honorable mentions. They both went from wrestling for singles gold to being on the same side in a throwaway 8 man tag.
Surprised Luger wasn't mentioned given his fall from being the next top star to just fighting the Harris Twins is a testament to how much they fumbled the bag. If we're talking rises though: Becky Lynch going from just another person in the Wrestlemania Women's Battle Royale to main-eventing Wrestlemania and walking out with both belts, it's a rise no one would've expected.
What about Brock Lesnar ? He went from defeating Kurt Angle for the WWE championship at WrestleMania 19, in 2003 to losing to Goldberg and being booed by the WWE audience out of the building at WrestleMania 20 at MSG, the following year.
He was still a main attraction both times. It’s just his connections to the fans had drastically changed by WM19 to WMXX. WM19: “Thank God you didn’t kill yourself wrestling Kurt Angle for the WWE Undisputed Championship in an all-time classic!!” 🙌🏾👏🏾🏅 WM20: “No, you didn’t suddenly breakup with us; WE’RE BREAKING UP WITH YOU!! And take your whisker-biscuit bald-headed boyfriend with you!!!” 😤😡🤬
First, I love the idea for this video. Never thought about it before and its a very interesting topic. Second, honorable mention to JBL. At mania 20, he lost a forgettable 4 way tag title match in the dying days of APA, and by next year at mania 21 he was defending the wwe championship. Few could have predicted that. Third, THE BOOTS ARE COMING BACK ON.
The biggest falls between WrestleManias are Stone Cold Steve Austin Mania 17 and Mania 18, Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley Mania 32 and Mania 33, The Miz Mania 27 and Mania 28, Sasha Banks/Mercedes Moné Mania 37 and Mania 38, and Kofi Kingston Mania 35 and Mania 36.
Shinsuke Nakamura… Went from winning the 2018 Royal Rumble and wrestling AJ Styles for the WWE title at Mania 34, to teaming with Rusev in a fatal four way for the Smackdown tag belts a year later…
Brian Zane and Simon Miller are Jewish? Ah, it's great that there's an event catered directly to the Jewish Community, I wonder if Barry Horrowitz will show up?
Lex Luger WMX to WMXI Went from a co Royal Rumble winner, getting a title shot against the world champion to...a throwaway tag team OPENING match with Jacob and Eli Blu.
Don't know why but in my brain I could hear the When world's collide song that was on the first Smackdown Vs Raw when you and Simon were on screen together. Sure to be a fun event. Simon always appears like an absolute joy of a person to be around.
I'm surprised you don't have Lex Luger on here. Faces Yokozuna for the WWF Title. Next year, teams with British Bulldog in the opening match vs. The Blue Brothers.
I remember seeing Macho Man at the desk as a kid and being sure it was a setup for an angle, like someone's gonna come throw a drink in his face and then he's got an impromptu match, but then... he just did commentary.
