SO many accidents happen because people are trying to be nice & let other cars cut through traffic. It's so very dangerous. I do the same. I wave them to please continue on. I'll exit or cross when I can clearly see that it's safe.
Lucky he was in a car. I've seen people trying to cross a busy thoroughfare and one guy being "nice" lets them cross but almost gets hit by the other driver coming from the opposite lane.
I’m 67 now but still remember my dad teaching me to drive as a teenager. When I waved a driver to cross in front of me. He immediately told me “Never direct traffic from inside your car! You can’t predict what anyone else will do. Only concern yourself with your own driving.”
Its actually scary to think that there are people on the road with this mindset, young or not. The fact that he doesn’t understand the concept of “right of way” is crazy.
@@kac4klhc977 ahah I was thinking the same, he is definitely a cutie, but his parents should have told him he was wrong… maybe he wanted to come to the show to get it paid for anyways, not sure
Right of way doesn't really apply if she went around a turning car. You have to signal 100 yards back or more to be able to say it's reasonable for them to expect you to change lanes last minute. Otherwise it's careless driving.
that road is kinda dangerous. how do they expect to mitigate accidents from happening without traffic lights. people just have to wait for 4 lanes of traffic to be empty before they cross?
@@lescobar195 LOL they fly these people down and pay expenses, plus have them sign contracts, plus this is arbitration not a real trial. It's a TV show. I'm pretty sure he had an inkling of what was going on.
@@DeviceAnathema Then that makes him look worse if he thinks getting multiple jobs will endear him to the viewers. If he does get multiple jobs, it won't be to pay off this judgment.
I’m not sure if you paid attention? The person that waved him in had stop traffic. It’s actually illegal for them to block the intersection, so they were right to stop and wave him in letting him know they aren’t going to just move forward and block him. Despite this, the other lane didn’t have stop traffic, so it’s up to the driver going across the intersection to proceed with caution. Just because one car stops, does not mean the other will too.
Big lesson to learn, just because someone gives up their right of way and waves you on, does not mean everyone else is going to wave you on, you have to be VERY careful, because if they change their mind and there is an accident with them, they are still in the right...
He's 18. I get that he doesn't get it. I was about to question why he came into court thinking he is in the right, but he just started driving. That's alright. He learnt today I'm sure. His parent(s) didn't come with him? Let's see.... very respectful kid. I hope his parents can help him with this payment.
I don’t know…. This scenario doesn’t have to do with experience, it has to do with learning how to drive BEFORE he got a license and he had his 4 year old brother in the car…. I think the “right of way” question is literally on every single test? Lol
Lord I am so scared for him if he’s driving regularly and doesn’t understand the road rules. Cars are not toys!!! You gamble with your life every time you’re on the road.
@@payableondeath9091 right! I hate when motorcycles do that. Sometimes they drive on the yellow lines between cars and passes everyone like they run the road
Poor defendant? How about poor 4 year old in his car! Plus the plaintiff had her son in the car as well. More like stupid defendant if you ask me. Even after the judge explained how he was wrong, he then proceeds to argue that he had the right of way in the hallway. He needs to grow up.
@@spacecase8791 the defendant is 18 years old…people have accidents and make mistakes. He was ignorant yes, most people are until they have to learn a life lesson. This case was one of his life lessons.
When I took drivers training many many years ago, my instructor said to us in class that “you don’t have the right away, someone has to give it to you.” I never knew what to make of it, but I knew that I’d rather be wrong and alive than be right and dead. Good thing no one got hurt in that accident.
@kac4klhc977…..so with that thinking we shouldn’t allow youngsters to get their drivers license. Move the driving age up to what…..25, 30? At what age are you no longer considered a tard?
I think he knew, he just didn't want to say it. Unfortunately we live in a society people would rather continue to push a lie rather than admit they were wrong.
He wasn’t completely in the wrong, someone else gave him the “go” it was hard for him to see her in the double lane. He just assumed that everyone does the “nice pass thing” it happens a lot where I live so he’s not irresponsible
I lost a friend by a driver give him the wave to walk across the two lane street and got hit by a car just like in this accident. In this accident it could of been worse…. 🚦
I’m sorry, that’s really not smart of your friend. The persona that waved them through only has control over their lane. If your friend continued walking and not look, that’s their own fault. Unfortunate, but many deaths are due to self infliction.
The fact that at the very end, he still said he had the right away, you shouldn't be allowed to drive. I'm sure the judge wasn't the first person to tell him he is in the wrong. Anyone who has a driver license should know if you have a stop sign and the other lane doesn't, you do not have the right away.
I thought this kid really thought he was right but now I realize he didn't counter sue for his damages, which means he knew he was in the wrong and hoped the judge would at least say they were both at fault. If he knew he was right, he would have sued her first or at the least counter sued.
This scenario is my pet peeve, especially with four way stops. You cannot give up your right of way. My family is tired of me screaming if you follow the law you don't have to be nice.
I’m confused by this? So they waved you in, but you wanted to cut through their lane and not pay attention to the other lanes? I’ve gone through being waved in MULTIPLE times… you’re supposed to drive into their lane, stop look to make sure there isn’t additional oncoming traffic and continue moving forward.
@@LeeoGoneWild no I'm referring to being at an intersection and the other driver has the right of way, but instead of making their turn or crossing, they wave me to go first. I would be at fault if an accident occurred as they had the right of way.
@@r1verman if they waved you in, then that means they stopped at their lane. You drive into their lane, stop and look at the other lanes to make sure there’s no oncoming traffic. If there is, you just wait there.
I never wave someone over unless I see that there's no one in the lane next to me. I kinda do a point to the lane, like "it's good, go ahead". But man, you can't ever just go without knowing. This was a classic new driver accident.
we heard that from friends......you NEVER obey someone when they tell you to go ahead. In Canada, the person who indicated that he could go, could be sued for damages as well.
@@David-cc8xe in Ontario. The car owners cannot sue each other, but they can sue a 3rd party who's at fault. Ppl here don't do it that much because the loser has to pay the winner's lawyer as well as their own. Cheers!
Sadly, I see people do what he did all of the time and sometimes they get away with it but it is way too risky. You can't see around the other car and you don't know if they will stop.
I hated being a teenager, trying to navigate through life, getting things wrong and getting told off for it. I have never gotten a car license and I think at that age I too would have made mistakes. I used to take lessons and on one test I took, I was blinker flashed to go by a white van and so in my stupidness went. I failed my test because I didn't have the right of way. I'm 53 now and still don't drive.
I work for an insurance company and I filed so many claims where people were involved in an accident because they were waved on by another driver. You still have a duty to proceed only when it's safe. SMH the fact that this kid did not get it is scary
I was taught that the only person you can trust on the road is yourself. If someone waves you on, unless you have zero other cars around, don't go for it.
Cases like this are why I think drivers need to not only retake a road test, but also the written test every 5 or 10 years. In the practice of driving, we tend to forget the ACTUAL rules for the rules of thumb but the rules of thumb aren't real.
This is exactly why I do not let the other person tell me it's ok to go when I have a stop and they do not. I shake my head no when he give me the ok to go!
My friend witnessed an accident recently just like this. Traffic backed up during rush hour, lady got tired of waiting and turned in front of my friend who was sitting in traffic. Man came down right lane and hit the lady turning. My friend said she didn't even see the man coming and she didn't wave the woman on. Everyone was fine thank God.
This guy is the reason there's 5,000 dash cam accident channels on youtube. Even after losing the case, he's still clueless about the rules of the road.
Oh my gosh!! Tell me we don’t hand out drivers licenses to just anyone! The Defendant should not own a cat, let alone a car!! He was absolutely clueless when he was asked a few easy questions after court!! Lol!
I watched a similar accident happen because the driver had the same mentality as this guy, thought someone would stop because I was going to cut them off. Dude was turning left across traffic, one person stopped to let him go so he assumed the other lane would. He smashed into a lady in an older Ford and tried yelling at her until I stepped and explained he was the moron. He had a BRAND new, under 1k mile Malibu he was delivering pizzas with and was trying to get to his pizza place. And of course he didn't insure it as a business vehicle 🤦♂️🤣 total loss no payout
I’m glad you have common sense. I’m reading a lot of these comments and they’re like, “this is why you do not go if you’re being waved in.” You can still go… you just have to stop in their lane and make sure there isn’t additional oncoming traffic. It’s baffling people don’t get this.
If there's no one hurt, the police don't care. All they're going to do is the same things that the citizens should be able to do. They're going to exchange the people's information, call tow trucks if necessary, and have public services clean up any debris. Please don't need to be there unless there's a reason for police action. It's a car accident, if the law wasn't broken, they're not going to respond. And if the only law that was broken was a traffic violation, they've got way bigger fish to fry than that.
This young man is very confused. 🤦🏽♀️ It doesn’t matter if another car waved you out in front of them, you still have an absolute responsibility to make sure that the way is clear and safe before proceeding!
This is why it's a good idea to take a driver's education course. If he had taken such a course he would have known that if you have a stop sign, you must come to a full and complete stop and then proceed with caution when it is safe to do so. That means stopping and looking BEFORE you go to make sure no one is coming. How many of these " cut through " videos have we seen on youtube where the guy always gets T-boned.
I’ve been in this same predicament and no matter your wrong if you don’t have the right away you can’t change the rules of driving cuz you don’t ones how to drive lmao driving is a privilege remember that when you try to play the victim when you don’t have insurance on a car your driving
Why did the judge let it slip by when the lady said when she wrote the estimate? Also one estimate? I thought you had to have at min. 3 estimates to prove the cost the estimate wasn't legit.
There's actually a street that I have to turn on to take my son to work almost every day and it's a similar situation both of the lanes are always jam-packed because there is a stoplight a couple yards ahead, if one lane stops to let me turn into the parking lot I have to slowly creep out to see if the other lane is going to stop as well, how does he not understand that just because one car stops in one lane that the other lane is going to do the same thing? If they don't have a stop sign and he's the one veering into traffic he completely doesn't have the right away and he has to yield to oncoming traffic but I guess he's pretty young and you live and you learn I hope he's learned from this mistake and doesn't repeat it he's very lucky that nobody was hurt.
People who allow others to pass like that are also extremely dangerous. I only wish he would actually learn how he cannot do this again. Thankfully no one injured.
18 and already 2 tickets! I didn't get my first ticket till in my 30s in my diesel rig, going 5 miles faster than allowed and after that many years later another ticket for the same thing.
This is why people shouldnt try to direct traffic. If someone waves you to go, don't. They don't have the right to give up the other drivers right of way and if it causes an accident it's on you. I almost got into an accident because of that happening when I first started driving. Never again.
Pobre joven hombre . But he’s awesome for knowing that he has to pay back for his own mistakes . On the other hand I would never let me 22 year old drive any of my small children . I barely let them ride with their dad because he’s not the greatest driver (I hope he never sees this comment 😂) I tell him all the time forget the person waving us in , see all those cars still coming in the other lane ? This is often a big argument between us smh 🤦🏽♀️
I see his point. The woman didn’t want to let him go like the car in front of her did. Yes, it’s technically his fault, but she could have let him cross.
Did everybody catch the proof of why the defendant lied? According to the pictures of both cars the defendants car hit the door of the plaintiff. It couldn't have happened the way he said as the front bumper of the plaintiffs car was not damaged.
