Who is Andrew Camarata?

A little over four years ago I was researching shipping container buildings and came across a youtube channel featuring a guy building a shipping container castle. I didn't know it at the time but I would soon be on an educational journey. The more videos I watched the more I started to realize this channel was way more than just building with shipping containers. It seemed that I had found a channel that piqued my interest no matter the subject. This guy seemed to be doing a lot of the things that I find fascinating. So not only were the videos entertaining but I was also learning as I watched. Who is this guy that's having such a positive influence on my life? So I reached out to him with a request for an interview and to document what it would be like to meet someone who's had such an influential impact on my life. He accepted and so began two years of planning, video chats, phone calls, lots of texts, covid scares, flights booked, cancelled and rebooked, and rescheduling the trip itself three times. But over the course of those two years a friendship happened and I was about to meet in person a true artist...

Very cool - You did a really good job of encompassing what its like hanging out with Andrew. He's just like you would imagine him to be after seeing a few of his videos. Its unique to find someone with so much popularity who is a genuine as this guy is. Great questions too very good stuff here.

There was a point in this video where Andrew mentioned that young kids could watch his videos and that is very true. My Grandsons 8 and 4 sit curled up with their Dad and watch Andrew do his work. No swearing, no inappropriate comments, just a talented equipment operator mechanic guy sharing his daily life. I'm a fan.

I stumbled across this video just looking for something interesting to watch. Although I watches others as well, but Andrew is at the top of the list. I think it's because of his practical approach to describing how a thing works... even when he's not sure himself, he doesn't try to fake his way about it One thing that really impressed me about him, was being stopped by the highway patrol officer because his truck was not properly licensed to be on the streets working, Andrew got on the case and corrected all the violations and he even presented them to his subscribers, now that impressed me.

Good interview. I forget who it was that I subscribed to first but it was either Andrew or Essential Craftsman. For me, the appeal about Andrew is his attitude. I always remember the video he did installing a drain field and the inspector or the owner (I forget which) made him re-do it like 3 or 4 times, by no fault of his. But he persisted and just did it. Most people (likely including myself) would have told them to shove it and walked away, but he didn’t. He just pressed on and finished it. Very impressive attitude.

A very nice watch. Well done! Have to say I'm a fairly unexpected fan of Andrew Camarata. Or his work, I should say, rather. No BS. No clickbait thumbnails. No begging for likes and subscriptions. No name-dropping of companies or other youtubers. No sneaky promos. No begging for people to fund his life and hobbies through Patreon, or worse. He just gets on with things, mostly calm and collected, and takes everything in his stride. The amount of stuff I've learnt from watching his videos about fixing, operating and maintaining stuff is mind-blowing. So, very nice to see a little more of the person behind. Though, expectedly, he is just the same guy as comes across in all his videos :)

Brad i already rated Andrew at 5 stars but now i got give him 6 stars because since i heard him talking about turning down product endorsements & free stuff because he wanted his channel to be fully in his control and after the last 3 years he really has not done one endorsement the only ad's are what youtube places mostly on the cell viewers ! His style has kept me watching the last 3 years my first watched video was when they put the first floor slabs on top the containers and i think i seen every one his videos since then ! Thank you for doing this kind of behind the scenes interview with him and bringing everyone more up on the real Andrew Camarata !

You did a great job on this. I'm a little envious you were able to spend time there talking to him. It was very interesting getting to hear a lot of what Andrew had to say and you asked a lot of things that I've wondered myself. I think one of the biggest things that makes him so likable is that he's not afraid to be himself. He does and says what he wants, and he clearly didn't let a lot of things bother him as comes across as a very unstressed person. He lives a true life of freedom, doesn't care much of materialistic things, has a lot of great ideas on how things should be built and work, and he's incredibly intelligent. He's a true jack of all trades. There's also something about how he puts his videos together. I never thought I'd spend over an hour watching a guy work on a piece of equipment and be thoroughly entertained. Plus, who doesn't like a guy who uses a chainsaw to install a radio in his truck? Lol. Thank you for doing this.

Andrew does what most of us men would have wanted to do at some point in our lives, but now that we are too old or that seems so unlikely, we live it through him. Watching a Camarata video is major therapy. It is so satisfying to see someone finish what he started. The dogs are a bonus, especially the playful, annoying scientist Cody. Andrew's friend Jesse Muller also has a channel worth watching similar to this, Andrew is the one, just like Abom79 is the real legend and Mathew Cremona is the wood slabbing guy.

I don't care if it's cutting down a tree, or fixing a chainsaw... dude always makes things interesting and informative without all the bullshit other youtubers throw in. He's just a dude making videos about his interesting life and sharing it with the world... and the honesty in that should be cherished and emulated. My condolences to you and your family, I didn't know that your father passed away, was because of covit19, and your brother?

Partially inspired by Andrew, my wife and I purchased a piece of property in NE Oklahoma and began building out a large galvanized metal building. We have created an industrial home that is unique to us. It has been a dream come true. We have spent countless hours to date building each part….carpentry, metal welding, concrete, pipe designed furniture pieces, lvl beams, metal panels, and the list goes on.

I agree, Andrew shows the fun in doing the kinds of things that I wanted to do as a kid but got sidelined by a career etc. He never gets upset and always finds inventive ways of problem solving. Andrew's show really answers most questions. In another interview he explained his education in shop and with computers. His skill set is pretty obvious and impressive....but he leaves a little mystery...which makes his vids fun.

I'm sooo glad that you and Andrew took the time to make this video. I just found him 6 months ago...I'm retired.. and have binge watched him for an embarrassing amount of time every day. I could watch him shoveling out an outhouse.. and be fascinated. One of the great things... finally seeing the inside of the castle.. the outdoor area with spa and gondola at night looked awesome. Just thank you for filling in the missing holes.. very well done 👍👍👍

Very nice to see Levi as an actor and also receiving a well deserved Executive Producer credit. We all miss you, buddy. I know a lot of Labs who are up at the Rainbow Bridge with you. Look forward to meeting you, someday. Keep an eye on Andrew, and make sure he doesn't jump out right where the forklift is going to land! Andrew is truly a remarkable man.
