Who is behind Hong Kong's riots?

It was a black day in Hong Kong as violent acts were committed at the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), one of the offices set up by the Central People's Government in the HKSAR and has constitutional functions. While some protesters had maliciously surrounded and tried to storm the office, some even smeared the Chinese national emblem and painted insulting words on the walls outside of the office. But who is behind Hong Kong’s riots? What should be the top priorities for Hong Kong now? And where will the “One Country, Two Systems” policy lead to?

The National Endowment for Democrat has been funding groups in HK.......This goes back to the 90’s but just in last year, the HK Institute for Human Resource Management got $90,000 last year from the National Endowment for Democrat (NGO) Carl Gershman, he was actually the President for the NGO. He said, it’d be terrible Democrat groups go around to be seen as subsidized by the CIA, that was happened in the 60s. That’s why it has been discontinued, that’s why the NGO was created... So, the NGO been created to innocence’s do the CIA’s work overly...........Allen Weinstein who actually helped draft the Legislation to create the NED...He said, “a lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA.” You all can take it from these two honesty who are involved from the ground up at the National Endowment Democracy!!

What is certain is that the Chinese central government will not intervene and stop such atrocities. On the one hand, it is related to the "one country, two systems" legal restrictions, on the other hand, it does not actually care. If the people of Hong Kong want such "freedom and democracy", the central government will never stop them from doing so. Of course, the final result can only be Hong Kong's loss of international status. It has no effect on the Chinese government's rule over Hong Kong. After all, today's Chinese economy is constantly evolving, and Hong Kong is nothing compared to other big cities in China. For the people of Hong Kong, they think that Hong Kong is more "democratic" and "advanced" than the mainland China. I don't know where it comes from? If the people of Hong Kong do not agree with the governance of the central government, they can immigrate and the government has not prevented them from doing so. I think those opponents called the pursuit of legal independence, but rather the venting of their own failed life, joined the "violent party."

Victor and Eigar got it right, no excuse for violence and endless protest. Equally important is for mainland China to take over from Hong Kong the housing problem and provide high quality housing and jobs to Hong Kongs youth. No matter what China does it will always get bad press in the west. China can only benefit its reputation and stature by applying a classic China speed solution and fix the problem by taking over the land from the greedy land holders. Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and take positive action. The Hong Kong government should be reprimanded for failure to govern competently for all sectors of Hong Kong people.

How do you guys propose for the HK government to take over the land from the "greedy landowners"? If they refuse to sell, then to force them to sell? Is it possible to devalue the land when HK is so small and demand far outstrips supply? Isn't Tokyo facing the same problem? Other cities with huge populations too? Aren't the Rothschild and the Soros etc etc all greedy too? Who demonstrates against the handfuls of the rich and powerful across the whole wide world? I don't have the "right" answers. Do you?

It's actually just the US empire due to China threatening their world hegemony. They've done the same with Japan not so long ago which resulted in signing the Plaza Accord followed by Japan's lost decades. The UK doesn't have the say anymore and will be even less irrelevant once it exit EU(good riddance btw). So yeah, CIA are well known for instigating riots and regime changes all around the globe. China one nation two systems, don't seem to work. Since HK returned to China decades ago, the focus should have been more on integration. The hierarchy should be well established that its relationship be vertical not horizontal. Allowing two systems to coexist seems to put seeds of disunity which could be easily exploited by foreign. Slowly, China needs to merge HK into one of her cities. Also, China needs to abolish HK dollars. Theirs being expensive is what causes the very hard living conditions

The demonstrations are manipulated by the USA, Bruno Guigue has proven it. The majority of Hong Kong people are pro-China, a minority of 20 year olds and 14 year old teenagers who demonstrate, people who have no idea what adult life is, who do not know nothing about politics and are therefore easily influenced. Learn instead of believing media misinformation.

Way too much time wasted arguing over semantics. The comparison to Singapore was the highlight. Despite being fully independent and more diverse, Singapore is more socialist and authoritarian than Hong Kong. Singapore is much more like China than Hong Kong is. You can compare Singapore and Hong Kong and point to the inequality and disenfranchisement in Hong Kong, but to change Hong Kong to be more like Singapore and China would actually require a more active Hong Kong government, which would cause suspicion in the power players in both Beijing and the old rich in Hong Kong, as well as the very disenfranchised youth that rose up in protest. So for these sides to be able to see the bigger picture and understand their own needs, much still hangs in the balance. Hong Kong has become the distopia so common in Hong Kong movies, and it could very much be too late to turn back. The future of Hong Kong could be Batman's Gotham.

China wants to find foreigners to blame but needs to look at themselves. If there was no real underlying reason, why are 2 million HK citizens going out onto the streets to protest? China is not holding up to their promises of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. Taiwan, the UK or the US might agree with the protesters but that doesn't mean they have made this happen.

My comment was deleted. I will repost it: Dear Shen Haixiong I am just an ordinary citizen who takes part in the many peaceful police-approved marches in Hong Kong. It shocks me to see your reporting on these issues. I feel appalled and upset that you mislabel every one of us as ‘rioters’. In reality, the real rioters are radical and a minority and most protesters (including I) neither empathise nor support them. In fact, what really upsets me and other Hong Kongers is how you misrepresent and disregard our motives and actions. For example, you always blame us for challenging the one country, two systems principle and jeopardising the rule of law. However, you never seem to report on what actually caused us to rise up against the government and how the Hong Kong Police Force have engaged in brutal beatings, arbitrary arrest and torture by fighting fire with fire [1][2][3][4]. It is in fact due to the government in Beijing trying to erode our rights. We feel cheated because universal suffrage, described as the ‘ultimate aim’ in the Basic Law, has never come even close to being given to us. We feel disgusted at how the National People’s Congress repeatedly re-interprets our laws in a way that is convenient to them. We feel sickened that your company’s owner, the Chinese government, can choose the people who elect our leader. We are angry at the Chinese foreign ministry’s remarks and CCTV’s biased reporting that totally harms our reputation and attempts to divert attention away from the subversion of our freedoms and onto how a few radicals are ‘harming Hong Kong’s prosperity’. There have been too many broken promises. The Sino-British Joint Declaration was meant to ensure our rights are protected, but when China was confronted about their violations of it, CCTV responded by saying that it is a ‘historical document’ and has been ‘invalid and expired’ for a long time. When other countries such as the US reminded China the declaration expires in 2047 and is legally binding, your news organisation just brushed it aside and smeared America for ‘shamefully and ridiculously interfering in China’s internal affairs’ [5]. This just goes to show how sly and dishonest CCTV and the Chinese Government is. They cannot be trusted to honour their obligations under international law, and this is highly concerning as China stands on the United Nations Human Rights Council as a permanent member. It is also baffling that CCTV and the foreign ministry even considers universal human rights and international agreements as its ‘internal affairs’. Are you, as the leader of CCTV, not aware of the commitments China has as a permanent member of the UN? Or that it is party to six human rights treaties, including the Convention against Torture? Or are you benefiting from defending your government’s egregious human rights violations, lack of transparency and notoriously poor credibility? As the highest ranking person in CCTV’s management, propaganda chief of Guangdong province and deputy minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, I think the latter explanation is more likely. Because CGTN even have access to RU-vid, they are obviously using a VPN and therefore would be able to access these reports. This tells me how ignorant (or more likely) how selfish and undignified the CGTN team is to even work to produce a documentary like this when clearly all evidence says otherwise. I can't believe people would even work for such a disgusting and sickening news (government) agency for a paycheck. You all should get hailed to the 'pillar of shame' for eternity. 愛國🇨🇳不愛政!保護中國民族!毋忘共產黨對百姓的罪行!

Phantasmal Eye The Americans had done all they could behind this 2019 riot in Hong Kong. What they couldn't do was to send in their battleships to "evacuate" their 80,000 expatriates --- at the same time pointing their big guns at the most densely populated districts (which they've done in the Middle East). They couldn't because unlike Yemen, Iraq or Libya, China's got nuclear weapon, 300+ battleships and the worlds strongest army. This is also the reason why people are able to comfortably debate about the riot in an air conditioned studio. Saddam Hussein didn't get that luxury. It is of course possible that there is some foreign influence. But my experience in protest movements has been that all kinds of human emotions get encouraged by the activity of the protest and the limitations in the results. The way protests have been dealt with in the United States when they get out of hand is not that much different from what the Hong Kong police are doing. That includes disrupting the demonstrations with tear gas and making arrests of people participating in the disruptive protests. When the police are not able to handle the size of the demonstration, the national guard is brought in.

Find out who are the “forces” behind this blatant protest. I do not believe the extradition issue is the main cause of discontentment 1. Find out the people who are financing the protest. Do what is necessary to deal with them effectively regardless of which “mighty” countries they come from. 2. Those who destroyed and or caused damage to properties must be identified and brought to justice, and punished to the full extent of the laws. 3. Reforms very necessary, especially housing. More than half of the population do not have a home, which they can say is their own, and have been living, enduring and doing the “best” they can under the conditions and circumstances all these years. The younger people are crying out loud. Listen to their call!!! 4. My question , who is really “running” Hong Kong. The answer or answers could be a starting point.

Sendy Filemon, Indonesian Chinese for 30+ years. Been through racial riots. Answered Sun Ok I’m Indonesian etchnic chinese. What issues are the Hong Kong people suffering from? Are they suffering from being made a latent racial scapegoat in their own country every election year like Indonesian Chinese? No. Do they suffer from contributing their life to public office only to have their work and self vilified over a video which true content is deliberately ignored by haters, like Ahok from Indonesia? No. Are they suffering from being colonialized by a western power located halfway around the word and didn’t give even the richest among Hong Kong ers any vote on who will be Governor with life death power over Hong Kong people? No. Actually they no longer report under colonialist rule since 1998. Are they suffering from a state sponsored economic policy that puts another “native” race at economical and political advantage like some country in South East Asia? No. Are they suffering from terroris groups carrying the banner of religions that resulted in bombings and other atrocities like some countries in South East Asia? No. Are they suffering from a middle eastern country actively sponsoring for religion schools and clerics that supports a rather back-to-the-8-century view of entire way of life? No. Do they suffer from paying taxes to governments that not only corrupt, but use such taxes to support people who would say to you “your blood is halal for me”? No. So what does the Hong Kong people suffer from? They suffer from houses they can no longer afford. What else? Not being their own independent country? Not being able to vote their representatives? Or perhaps they suffer from enjoying 50+ years of being the leading edge on economy in Asia, only to discover that the capitalism needed to make that happen has led some local Hong Kong ers to live in coffin size apartments in their own land but also, not good enough to maintain the lead versus economies that has 10x, 40x, 80x their population? It’s cute to see foreign flags in the Hong Kong protest. These locals love them? Who in the 99 years holding colonial control over the locals didn’t bother giving the locals citizenship? Or even the courtesy to offer full citizenship before the transfer? Have these locals forgotten what kind of citizenry they were being treated as during those years? Were they being treated as equals? This brings new meaning to unrequited love. Or perhaps some of them are saying “we rather be subjects to these old masters than equals to people next to us?”, if so, then such people are no better in terms of appreciation for human live and dignity than their old masters. And the British press is just total hypocrit. “Oh, we need to fight for freedom in Hong Kong?” Oh yeah, where were the British press when it was the British that was in Hong Kong? If the British love the Hong Kong ers so much, why don’t they give freedom and liberty back when they were in power?

The root cause was identified in the last few minutes of this clip. The HK government has to ensure that these kids have opportunities to reasonable paying jobs. Land owners and developers must ensure that affordable housings are available for all who want to work hard. Only then will the external instigators find no one to protest on their behalf.

They committed crimes or are politically against China central government in the past. That should give you a small list of people already. CIA might have something to do with it, but I don't think are the main power behind this.

inside U S no protested since Rodney King L.A. riots ,compare to the rest of the world .What's the secret? peoples here in the USA hungly ,horny, greedy under table corruptions same as any human the world ,we're made it quiet ! Here the Quotes from Tony Montana :“In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. ...“Now you're talking to me baby! That I like! ... “Every dog has his day.” - Tony Montana 18. “I never fucked anybody over in my life didn't have it coming to them. ... “You wanna waste my time? Okay. ... “I got ears, ya know. “Okay, here’s the story. I come from the gutter. I know that. I got no education but that’s okay. I know the street, and I’m making all the right connections. With the right woman, there’s no stopping me. I could go right to the top.” - Tony Montana “I’m Tony Montana! You fuck with me, you fuckin’ with the best!” - Tony Montana (to Sosa’s assassins) “You a communist? Huh? How’d you like it, man? They tell you all the time what to do, what to think, what to feel. Do you wanna be like a sheep? Like all those other people? Baah! Baah!” - Tony Montana “What you lookin’ at? You all a bunch of fuckin’ assholes. You know why? You don’t have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your fuckin’ fingers and say, “That’s the bad guy.” So… what that make you? Good? You’re not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie. Me, I don’t have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say good night to the bad guy! Come on. The last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There’s a bad guy comin’ through! Better get outta his way!” - Tony Montana “I never fucked anybody over in my life didn’t have it coming to them. You got that? All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don’t break them for no one. Do you understand? That piece of shit up there, I never liked him, I never trusted him. For all I know he had me set up and had my friend Angel Fernandez killed. But that’s history. I’m here, he’s not. Do you wanna go on with me, you say it. You don’t, then you make a move.” - Tony Montana “Go ahead! I take your fucking bullets! You think you kill me with bullets? I take your fucking bullets! Go ahead!” - Tony Montana “You wanna waste my time? Okay. I call my lawyer. He’s the best lawyer in Miami. He’s such a good lawyer, that by tomorrow morning, you gonna be working in Alaska. So dress warm.” - Tony Montana “You got nothing to do with your life, man. Why don’t you get a job? Do something, be a nurse. Work with blind kids, lepurs, that kind of thing. Anything beats you waiting around all day, waiting for me to fuck you, I’ll tell you that.” - Tony Montana “I work hard for this. I want you to know that.” - Tony Montana “You think you can take me? You need a fucking army if you gonna take me!” - Tony Montana “I didn’t come to the United States to break my fucking back.” - Tony Montana “I kill a communist for fun, but for a green card… I’m gonna carve him up real nice.” - Tony Montana “This is paradise, I’m tellin’ ya. This town like a great big pussy just waiting to get fucked.” - Tony Montana “The World is yours!” - Land of opportunity , ya hear ! - Tony Montana

Mao himself said power comes from the barrel of the gun. One man's rebel is another man's freedom fighter. "The rule of law must be observed." Tell that to the Communist Party.
@btat7767

Everyone has to follow the rule of laws. That sound great if you are part of the group who writes and enforce the laws. For a government that not willing to work to reflect the values from its citizens, it is only through the violence can bring changes. Yes can blame foreign influence, but foreign influence can't force 2 million peoples onto a hot crowded street and walk for miles. The bottom-line questions are "What is the purpose of government?" Does the government work for the benefit of the peoples or the peoples working for the government?

Quite honestly the central Chinese government should look at other potential island cities like Macau or even cities in Hainan island to replace Hongkong which has in recent months made itself very clear that they have little regard for the mainland government. It obviously is a very clear case of Hongkongers owing no allegiance to China as its ultimate governing authority. Therefore a complete withdrawal of all rights and privileges previously accorded to Hongkong should be effected immediately and another worthy replacement sought for appointment. Although I have never been to Macau as I have always regarded it as a gambling destination I have subsequently watched some RU-vid videos about this beautiful island city and is impressed by its people and its Portugese influence. I believe that even though their comfortable living was mainly attributed to tourism and the thriving casinos there the place is peaceful, the people tolerate each other and live amicably well. Another good choice would be for one of the cities in Hainan province as China's new financial hub due to increased tourism trade there. Improve commuting facilities from the provincial city to Shenzen's commercial centre for expansion of China's external trade with new partners and for speedier globalisation. Hongkong can then be relegated to service their western sugar- daddies as a seedy sex destination.

HK/China and all concerned parties should focus on solutions. The first and probably the most difficult is to bring the streets protests to an end. While the PLA is the most appropriate means, its deployment is politically troublesome. Tragically perhaps the time is still not yet and some outsiders would want this to happen just so they can point their accusing fingers. When the dust is settled, the central government should visibly help HK lighten its housing and other issues related to the daily lives of the people while painstaking avoid politically sensitive issues this will create goodwill and trust. Proactively appoint an (apolitical) envoy/ambassador to HK to facilitate in seeking solutions. If land for housing is an issue, solutions may involve its hinterland. HK's more than US$1.8 trillion in financial reserve should be put into good use.

Comedians discussion on New Middle Kingdom economic structure. Old battle between Nationalist vs. Socialist faction within is the underlying comic apparent fracture. What we are talking about is the ECONOMIC FUNDALMENTALS of HONG KONG. IFC status of Hong Kong is inviolatable. And that's part of $10 trillion capital in OFFSHORE New Middle Kingdom. (Or 20% private capital in our region) The protest is just economic slowdown games and riot game by a few jokers. Very entertaining show. Core members of the rioters are just children. Now typhoon season has arrived and Carrie Lam is ready to resign and be exiled to Western Australia. 🤣
