After losing Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jesse has delivered in roles in a similar way. Fantastic actor, down to earth, and i look forward to any projects he's in.
@jockejocke1 it's wild that The Master casting was so spot on. PSH is irreplaceable, but Jesse has that same presence. I'm excited to see where his career takes him.
@@MyCool223 thats literally not as good as an oscar. best actor at cannes is awesome but you are only in competition with films that are official entries into cannes. best actor at the academy awards means you are being recognized as the best actor out of ALL films released that year.
@@Koba1912Im a huge Goggins fan, but I think some people, for whatever reason, can’t carry the main lead, but whenever they do screen time, you’re captivated. Weird.
It’s amazing to see how Jesse Plemons has grown as an actor. He’s one of the best around and deserves all the acclaim and accolades he’s received at this point. He’s truly fantastic. Thanks for the video Brandon, keep up the great work and take care!
This hits that “that guy who was in that thing” vibe - I’ve seen his face many times and have been struck by every performance, large or small Thank you for showing me some of his light - now I’ve a name to his face
I used to call him the WISH version of Matt Damon. But damn, the man spent over a decade building his craft, and has worked with the best auteur directors of our time.
I heard someone say that he just comes off as unsettling. Like he perfectly plays kind, innocent characters and then can turn around and play cold blooded psychopaths
His mask-like face can barely move, you practicality can't even see his eyes, like Matt Damon stung by bees, & he uses that to great effect. It forces us to desperately focus on his face for clues, & he realizes that subtle emoting will have an outsized effect, he never has to over do it. Very clever performer.
There's this instant calm when you recognize an actor like this in roles in say a movie or show you're watching. There's a number of actors whom we always say things like "they're everywhere" and it is true but we don't always pay attention to them because more often than not, they're not the lead. But i absolutely enjoy watching their performances and that calm i mentioned earlier, is born from knowing and having seen that these actors will absolutely do justice to their roles. Great video, love Jesse Plemons and glad this showed up in my recommendations.
What a great episode. I love Jesse Plemons. I think his silence is him turning it up to 11 and it really makes him stand out. Thanks for another banger!
What!?!?! USS Callister is getting a spinoff? By far my favorite Jesse Plemons performance and throupled with Todd and Jimmy Hoffa's son the reason I became such a giant fan of him.
Wow, yet another actor I never think about, but immediately recognize and know they'll be great, and now I know why. You're right, there's just something about his cadence and demeanor and disassociation that comes across as completely unsettling.
Great Actor, one moment I'm cracking up the next I have a cold shudder go down my spine, the master of the part. He always owns the part and you view him as this person in this role, nothing else.
I remember seeing him in “Like Mike” as a kid and “Varsity Blues” as Lances younger brother, who’s parents are making him repeat 8th grade. I am just glad to see a child actor who’s still acting and doing a good job.
I can't believe he was a child actor and that he was in Like Mike of all things, I always thought the first thing he did was Friday Night Lights. But even as a child he seems to have showed a deep understanding of his characters and what he was there to do
Me and my gf love this dude!!! We literally scream out “TODD!!!!” Every time we see him! Civil war was entertains btw. I wouldn’t say it was necessarily good, but worth a watch for sure
That laugh after "spoiler alert, it's Jesse Plemons" made me laugh cry 😅😅 The most hilarious comedy in life is always very simple, with perfect delivery and timing.
I saw Civil War and left the theater with his character being the one that stood out to me the most, the movie was dark as a whole but that character was spine chilling. I hadn't seen much of his work before other than in El Camino. That was also a character that freaked me out. I rode my bicycle to go to see Civil War, it was dark outside by the time I left. That 20 mile ride home I couldn't shake an eerie feeling. Even though I know he's an actor I think that if I were to encounter him in the streets I may be a bit skittish of him.
Ever since first seeing Jesse in Breaking Bad I've been massive fan of his. His role of Todd was amazing. You slowly realise this polite, mild mannered kid is complety crazy.
Man that role in civil war, it sent shivers down my spine. So cold. I loved him in breaking bad too, and whenever he pos up in a movie or show, I am happy to see him.
YES!!! So glad to see this...Jesse Plemons is such an amazing, versatile actor....dude is unstoppable. Dude should get a starring role......He could easily win an Oscar.
No wonder I discovered Jesse Plemons in Game Night and thought he looked like a young Matt Damon. I haven't seen Breaking Bad or Fargo or Friday Night Lights or The Master. Did not even know he was married to Kirsten Dunst until The Power of The Dog came out. I loved his character in Game Night and every single role afterwards. He seems such a nice sweet guy in interviews. I'm not sure he can get the range of acting skills that Philip Seymour Hoffman had but he's pretty good and improving with every role.
There’s something great about him that I can’t articulate. To the average person he is no more than average. But most movie nerds know what I’m saying. I’m actually going to watch civil war just for his small roll tbh.
I think its because hes not moviestar hot so he rarely gets leading roles and he doesn't get the press. Like Kinds of Kindness, yeah hes in the trailers and he did interviews but the marketing make you think Emma Stone is the lead, and yeah she is A lead but he is THE lead.
Another really well made entry, thank you for the work you've put into this. I've not seen a ton of his work but I discovered him through Breaking Bad. It seems like a tall order to come into a show so far into its run and then stand as tall as the people that have been there since the beginning. In his little bit if time I'd say he left just as much of an impact as the characters that were there for the whole show.
It’s his ability to morph into “Everyman” and “Any man”… he does have that “Phillip Seymour Hoffman look” and can go from funny to serious to insane SO easily. It’s rare to find an actor that can do that and make you BELIEVE IT every time…
@TechnicJunglist You’re absolutely correct! As soon as I saw Jesse Plemmons in Black Mass, Bridge of Spies, American Made, and Hostiles, I literally rmeber thinking exactly that; this guy reminds me of Philip Seymour Hoffman. He blends into so many different roles, he can be funny, and unsettling at the same time, he’s got tremendous depth. The guy’s a chameleon the same way Hoffman was.
Back in the day, the year 2001 or 2002, I was doing BTS videography on my friends feature film “Fly Boys”, later renamed “Skykids”. Jesse played Bully #2 in the film, and he was about 16, I got some on camera interview stuff with him, asking if acting was what he planned to do for a career. Plus chatted with him for a few and with his mom or dad who was there. Can’t remember. He was a super cool kid to chat with (now an adult). I’ve been following his career off and on since and can’t believe “Bully #2” from Sky Kids has become as big an actor, but not a surprise. He’s a fantastic actor!! Here’s the clip from the film of Jesse at age 15 or 16…I’ll have to dig through old tapes to find the on camera interview 👍🏻 Sky Kids (Jesse Plemons scene): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mf7hGJzzLo4.htmlsi=iEorA6WJobw7Tqn3
@@TheBackFocus you’re welcome! It’s first time I’ve shared this info online. I’m 46 now and was like 24 at the time of filming Sky Kids. I’ve never had a chance to share this little story till now. Also random, my twin brother and I ran a film festival four years in a row called “The Eclipse Film Festival” in St. George, Utah (1999 - 2004) Evan Peter’s first feature film “Clipping Adam” screened at the festival (he was there) we flew he and his mother to the festival. By the end, he had won Best Actor, and his film won Best of Fest. He was a pretty shy but super cool kid at the time, and only 16 years old. Since then he’s been doing rad work as well. Ok, one more, ha. Again it was my twin bro and I when we were 11, we were visiting our grandparents (for the 100th time, loved to visit) in south east Utah, in the very small town of Thompson Springs. That weekend there happened to be a movie being filmed there, we were the only kids on set (town population was only 85) the 1st AD (or the producer) took us around to meet everyone. The film was Thelma and Louise. Got to meet Ridley Scott, Susqn Sarandon, and my kid celebrity crush Geena Davis, got pics with them all in their classic wardrobe from the film. For the next few days we watched them film and were again inspired to be filmmakers. Also, they all couldn’t stop talking about a new actor who was cast in the film that they had just done scenes with…some guy named Brad Pitt, who of course I had never heard of, but followed his career since. Life is interesting. Anyway, great work on your channel!!
I saw him on Kimmel the other night and was struck by how attractive he is. He can really turn into other characters in his roles. He always looks a bit different and is very much a chameleon. Someone compared him to Walton Goggins, and I will watch anything either one of them do. ❤
Wild cause I first saw him in Breaking Bad then El Camino. The transformation was rough I thought they pulled him out of obscurity to come back But he's been in so many roles
That's a great video essay. You've picked a subject I wanted to know about but had never thought to look up. Perfect tone. Excellent pacing. Love it. I am curious how you do your voice post processing. The sound is really polished. But that's a really nerdy question. Love the video. Have a great weekend.
Thanks for the kind words! As for the voice/narration: I use a Shure SM7B microphone with a pop filter. My partner Kenny does most of the editing on these videos, and I believe he uses Dynamics-->Soft Compression in Adobe Premiere, and maybe Vocal Enhancer? I might let him chime in here to be more specific.
@@TheBackFocus That is very generous of you to take the time to reply so very fully. I make videos but I am not in your league. I tend to cover big names and big stories but with less success. Your approach is really rather smart. I must must must find me a Kenny of my own. Have a great weekend.
i have seen him in tons of things, the first thing i remember is "Breaking Bad" but i distinctly remember i recognized him from something else when i seen him in that i just dont remember what it was. but i remember even way back then back then he was already sort of a meme because people were calling him like the poor mans Matt Damon. which got me because i like him but never cared for Damon. but yeah i really loved that Black Mirror episode and i heard they are making an actual film or series based on that episode so i am looking forward to that.
Jesse’s phlegmatic demeanor make him a great contrast for the caricatures around him. His overall unperturbedness either makes the scene hilarious or, like others mentioned, make his character seem chilling.
