HOW can anyone not love Chris as Supes? He WAS Supes, all the way through to his core. His face was perfect.

Tom Welling never got to play Superman. He was a great Clark Kent though.

Clark Kent isn't the disguise. Clark Kent was the morally good man that his parents raised him to be. Superman is the disguise used to keep his family safe. Bruce Wayne is the disguse to Batman tho.

A year ago Tyler Hoechlin would have been pretty low, considering in crisis he was overshadowed by Brandon who only had like 5 minutes of screen time. But now with Superman and Lois he’s pretty high on the list for me.

This is proof that standards are being dumbed down as the spongebob/corporate Disney generation is reaching adulthood. Jk. Taste is subjective at the end of the day.... but I’m still convinced Chris Reeve is OBJECTIVELY the best. ;)

Chris Reeves is brilliant. His portrayal of Clark kent is totally relatable and he's hilarious.

My favourite Superman will always be Christopher Reeve, whenever I read a Superman comic and think of it in movie form my mind goes to Reeve, he captured the essence of the character perfectly. Second place is Tom Welling, his development as Clark Kent was part of the journey and what a journey. Third place goes to Bud Coyler, the voice of Superman on radio and the old animated Superman shorts, of all of them he captured the perfect difference in personalities between Superman and Clark Kent with his voice that I feel Superman actors and voice actors lack. Fourth goes to George Reeves, he was the Superman of his era and there's something charming about his performance, shame how his life ended. Fifth place is a tie between Tom Daly and George Newburn for the DCAU Superman and other animated interpretations, like Vee said they both captured the serious but sincere side of the character. One version of the character I feel deserves more love is Gerard Christopher from the live action Superboy series from the late 80s, he captured that Reeve like aura but made still made it his own, he was so good that he almost upgraded to Superman when he auditioned for Lois and Clark and was accepted at first but was turned down only because they wanted a new face for the character, which is why they went with Dean Cain, who was good.

The scene where Brandon Routh Superman was hurt, and flew above the clouds into the sunlight the regain his strength was such a great scene. I digress. Brandon was definitely underrated. He was one of the best.

I didn’t know that Superman the animated series and Justice League Superman were voices by two different people. When I found out about that a couple weeks ago, I was shocked!

When Reeves guest stared in Smallville was kind of a special tv moment for me.

"He's Superman but he's EEEEEVVVIIIILLLL" is the Big Bang Theory of Superman. Nothing about is it original or entertaining.

Tom Welling will always be my #1 Superman. I was so disappointed when he didn't wear the suit in Crisis. And what's up with him giving up his powers? There was literally two episodes showing why the world needed him, and how bad it would be if he didn't have his powers.

Love me some Superman. Though I adore Christopher Reeve as Supes, my fave is George Reeves. He wasn't the "all powerful" god-like hero we know, to me he was the epitome of a man who is super. I see both epitomizing the Dean Cain Superman's ideal that "Clark Kent is who I am, Superman is what I do". That being said, Superman is more than just a name, more than just a costume, more than just a power set. Superman is a quality of personality and characteristics of emotion. Just saying that with all the iterations of the Man of Tomorrow, I love them all, as long as they breathe the personality and characteristic life into the character. If one can't be the character than there is nothing different than my putting on my Superman costume, and a kid, standing with my arms akimbo, and proclaiming I am Superman.

Reeves was fantastic as Superman, the only thing he really lacked was muscle, but that face and hair really had the "superhero look" that's so iconic. Tom Welling was great, but he was Clark, he was only Superman for the ending scene of the final episode. But yeah, Welling was the best Clark and Reeves was the best Superman

I like Cavill best not because of what he’s done, but what he is also capable of doing. You can tell when given the right lines and scenes, HE IS SUPERMAN. Chris Reeve second and Daly/Newburn 3rd. BUT! On any given day depending on my mood of nostalgia or what not, they are interchangeable.

Christopher Reeve is #1 and it’s not even close. I’m nauseous hearing anyone say different. The 1st two Christopher Reeve Superman movies are the the greatest-super-hero-movies-EVER even with the awful special effects…and I’m a Marvel guy.

Now that we got Superman and Lois, I would say Tyler is number 2 and Tom is 1.

Vee, you hit the nail on the head about Brandon Routh. The biggest issue with Superman Returns was that they wanted it to be a continuation of Superman II. Which would've been fine had they not casted so young. Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth were both incredibly young in the film, in fact too young to reasonably believe that five years had past since the world had been introduced to an ADULT Superman. Bosworth and Routh would have been better suited with a retelling of the Superman origin rather than a continuation of something already established.

Christopher Reeve is NOT the first person to portray Superman "on the Big Screen". Kirk Alyn played him in the movie serials. George Reevs (my favorite) waa the first person you portray him in a feature film, Superman and The Mole Men. George also plays Clark as the real character and Superman and the "disguise".

What was that league of supermen thing

In one of the old Superman cartoons, he did know Lex, when he was young. In the cartoon Lex loses his hair because of the radiation from Kryptonite. That is why he is bald and he blames Superman for his baldness since the rocks came from his planet. That is why Clancy Brown Lex gets cancer from Kryptonite in DCAU. It is a reference to the baldness cause in the comics.

Henry Cavill superman Was the superman that was portrayed perfectly including his introspective moments I would never say he was angry but he was very reactive as the plot of both the Zack Snyder films was him constantly being sucker punched by events happening at him. I believe the Attempt Of the storytellers was to attack him at his real weakness his humanity as the only life he understands and knows is the way he was raised. Much like Harry Potter where the plot of every movie was happening at him except for maybe One film. And despite the flimsy attempt Henry Cavill superman did shine through as the core of his being was correct and what he eventually settled on because origin story was happening before eyes unlike Christopher reeve or Brandon Routh Who are essentially the same character from her point of view Who’s journey from Clark the lost character to Superman happened off screen taking place over several years. And Not forgetting that the 40s/contemporary Of the time of their releases of Routh and Reeves portrayal Their world was built around their characters Allowing them to be as superman like as is commonly described when discussing this topic. Even the donor influence had a little camp to it. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not arguing that Henry Cavill is better but I will argue that he was as superman as the others. The justice league George newborn version of Superman and by extension the Tim Daly and a lot of times Tom Welling Smallville Portrayal Had Superman and his moments of doubt anger frustration and weakness and I could easily exchange out Tim Daly George Newbern and Tom Welling With Henry Cavils Storyline and Their behavior being like his would feel natural

I agree with you guys when you talk about Tyler Hoechlin Superman but the only reason why he's not better is because he's always playing second fiddle to the star of the show Supergirl they're always making him look weaker Supergirl always has to be the one that saves the day if it was his show and he was the star I feel he would do a lot better
