Currently crafting the League Lore into a playable DnD universe. And god it is so fucking hard to piece everything together. But i want people to experience this universe in a playable environment, thx for helping me, sometimes my brain just gets stuck on some interpretations.
Wait until tomorrow or saturday, Skinspotlines will release all the interactions between the new cards, from what I faced in the game, there's a lot to see from Kindred there, from his relation to the Shadow Isles to the lore behind the masks... Kindred isn't the only masked duo around, neither the first, neither the last, life in Runeterra is a cycle, by the end of your first try, you get to live at least a second time, with a different death coming to you! There's a lot of interesting in game interactions alluding that
Just gotta wait next time for the Card interactions or look up Kindred's Voice Lines on the LoR Wiki since those are usually up before the followers so yeah... They litterally call her "Mother" when she's on their side and she also talks with them, but it's not on the Wiki so I can't quote it perfectly or remember what she says.. But Kindred has this quote aswell: Wolf: I remember our beginning Lamb: I aswell dear wolf. When they see the masked Mother, so it's not a myth it seems at all and Etherfiend is def Death incarnate since it's a bloody Vulture which represents death inrl aswell..
@@juansantiagoromagnoli1831 they seem to be different entities. Swain controls the demon of secrets, the Etherfiend seems to be the entity in charge of ending things that were forgotten, in his interactions with Kindred the Kindred says that they sense something cold in the Etherfiend, and he replies by saying that It was not the time for them to know him - yet - implying that someday the Kindred will be forgotten, as many other incarnations of death have been before
@@moonondp4173 They won't meet. Mordekaiser is on an entirely different realm - the Death Realm. The Harrowing, the Shadow Isles, Viego - they're all on Runeterra, but Mordekaiser is not. That's also the reason why Mordekaiser sends you to Brazil in-game.
ya the death realm is one of the realms after the spirit realms, i think the lore has several "death" realms because i highly doubt knowing what morde is that kindred and the spirit blossom spirits would willingly shepherd souls to his kindgom of death
Fading Icon play voice: "Remember me little one, please!" And when he declares a block: "You! Yes, you remember!" It seems to me he is desperately trying to make anyone, anything remember him as a God of death, lest he becomes hunted down by the Etherfiend.
@@josefplacek4200 that would make sense if he were to just say this, but he's DESPERATE. he doesnt seem to just want a legacy, there are *real* stakes to failure to become legend
Quotes from the game: Mask Mother: Do you remember my name? Kindred (both): MOTHER. Etherfiend: Of all the masks...I am the last. Mask Mother: And I am the first.
When the Pale Man "splitted" himself in two, his body died, and the Mask Mother placed a mask on each side of him. A Wolf and a Lamb. Notice how the Mask Mother has many masks that are not to spread out, but there is two big "holes" in her fur that would be the spots of those two masks.
It could be, don't take necrit's word as set in stone. Make your own theories! To me that IS the second death and the other masked beings work alongside kindred
Fading icon has quotes: "I was feared once like you! (To Kindred)" and some interactions with the Baccai. I think Fading Icon and Masked Mother are not incarnations or sides of Kindred, they are the former gods of Death as kindred is now - Kindred even calls the masked Mother just "Mother" (both wolf and lamb say at the same time like if they had HUGE respect and gratitude for her) Plus Etherfiend is higher even than death because from the qoutes it looks like even Kindred is afraid of it. Ans I think his skill is the second Death and why he hunts the Fading icon as that he is there to Enforce death on the 'Immortals" or things that ruled as Death gods once but now they are forgotten. There is a bunch of info in their interactions and that's why I don't they they are just some random worshiping Vastaya.
I think the etherfiend is simply another representation of death just like kindred but he represents being forgotten as another way to die after the "first" death. The fading icon (another representation of death) is at the brink of oblivion because the people who worship him in the past are now inmortal (the baccai), so, despite being death itself, he is prey of the etherfiend.
Omg finally I'm finding this comment. It seems like 5 of them is equally having mask given by the mask mother. They must be different forms of death. I'm not sure what are the fading icon and soul spinner, but surely they are. As the etherfiend stated, his mask was the last, meaning everything will be forgotten, including death itself (themselves?).
15:45 Maybe a bit late, but I have another theory for the etherfiend: I do not believe it is another incarnation of Kindred/death, but the incarnation of being forgotten/forgetting. It has a quote from a person that questions what he becomes after his "second death", second death being being forgotten and also casts the spell "second death" onto a target. So the etherfiend therefore is not a direct incarnation of Kindred, as Kindred is the incarnation of death, but the etherfiend is the incarantion of the second death. So after someone is killed my Kindred, their next death awaits them in the afterlife, where the etherfiend prays on those who are being forgotten over time, such as the fading icon. The fading icon was the god of death for the baccai, ascended and Darkin, but all of these creatures are immortal and forgot that death even exists, hence the icon being a "fading" icon. That also explains why the ethherfiend killed the fading icon: it was finally forgotten and therefore died it's second death. Also, the etherfiend is pretty much as powerful - or even more powerful - as kindred is: Kindred is the god of death and can therefore never be forgotten, unless everyone is either dead or immortal. And if everyone has forgotten death, even Kindred will fall pray to the etherfiend. The etherfiend itself should be immortal, as forgetting can never be forgotten. But eventually, it will die with the death of the last entity in the entire world; being the universe including the spirit realm and all the celestials. So you could say the etherfiend is somewhat the most powerful being in existence as it will even kill aurelion sol and even maybe the Watchers?? (okay, the last one is maybe a bit farfetched, but it might be true, depending on the future lore of the void)
The level of story-telling and attention to detail is absolutely other-worldly. If Riot keeps this up, they will have an amazing, prosperous and incredible future!
The Forgotten Idol's text refers to a God being forgotten by immortal beings. And the Etherfiend's text also references being forgotten. The idol being a supernatural being makes more sense to me
maybe the maks mother shapes the lost souls of the dead so those soul can move to leave the shadow isles (because otherwise they would sit still waiting for the black mist to transform them).
Maybe The Pale Man splits himself in half so he'll always have a friend, but the Mask Mother is there to give each half a mask, turning one half into Lamb and the other into Wolf, it would work well cause we saw in the Mask Mothers art that she is placing a pig mask on a dead human and the human takes the shape of a pig spirit. So technically the Mask Mother DID create Kindred themselves but The Pale Man existed long before that. I love how much world building LoR has been doing, makes Runeterra feel special and unique, if the lore here is anything to go off of then the League MMO is gonna be crazy.
I have another solid theory that lines up with that nicely: I believe that there all previous gods of death and kindred being the current. The reason is that the fading icon is so desperately trying to be remembered and there is one line that kindred says which is “one day our masks will be forgotten” or something like that. Which leads me to believe that the mask maker is the one that makes all the gods of death and when each one of them is forgotten they get devoured by the eitherfiend and a new one becomes the current. There is also an interaction between kindred and the fading icon where wolf says “he’s mine” and lamb reply’s with “he’s for the other” which I believe the other being the eitherfiend because he devours the previous gods of death. There is also a line where kindred says to the mask maker “mother” which goes against necrits theory of the mask maker being someone who warships death. There is also another line where wolf says to lamb “do you feel that” and she reply’s with “yes….something cold” and so the eitherfiend says “they need not know…yet” this makes me believe that kindred is somewhat “scared” of the eitherfiend and that soon they will be devoured by it too. Also another interaction between the eitherfiend and the forgotten icon where the forgotten icon says “if I’m forgotten..then….no” and the eitherfiend reply’s with “yes” as in yes he will devour him. And also another interaction where the forgotten icon begs the mask maker to remember him, and the mask maker calls him “my child”. There are many more interactions like those that prove my theory even more and I think it’s a solid one. I would like to know what u think about it :) Mask mother* sorry..
Isn't the pale man still around, at least his essence? Because I thought that at the end of the spirit blossom storyline of Kindred someone watch on them and smiled.
@@nidhogg8446 That is true, the spirit realm is pretty bizarre. You can never by sure what is in front of you. But still, I'd like to think that it was the pale man, that even if he couldn't be happy for himself back then, he at least can by happy about the fact that Kindred never will suffer the loneliness that he had.
@@Oznerock therefore creating 2 completely *new* beings if kindred was his essence, they wouldn't be a lamb and a wolf that hunt, they'd just be...two bros being bros?
I mean, when you think about it, how long do you think someone will remember you? Unless you're a historical figure, or you were quite impactful to your family, you'll probably be forgotten within a few decades at best.
Just wanted to like point out, the skull that Necrit mentions with the eyes on it kind off looks like the skull from Volibear's Thousand Pierced skin. So maybe something with that will happen.
He mentioned that. He said, it resembled the works of the Ursine, which are volibears followers. So yes, you are right, but Necrit is pretty sure, that that is more a “coincidence” than an actual CONNECTION. Have a nice day.
@@MoehClon yet remember, he is as much a theorist as any of us, don't take what he says for granted! XD there is a spanish channel that made a THEORY about some targonian cards and their fans consider it cannon
Is it just me or do the arms of the Sea Scarab look a lot like the arms of the other creatures we saw here, like the Mask Mother? Could be assuming a bit too much though.
It honestly could be Bilgewater's personification or manifestation of "Death" in a sense, even if there's more than one of them. It makes sense when you think about how their graveyards are in the sea, that's where they "bury" their dead, and then the sea scarab comes and consumes them. Kinda a more grim dark manifestation but it makes sense to me. And these creatures are most certainly NOT vastaya.

I haven't finished this video, but I'm super excited for what necrit has to say >:D when I saw that the card second death tied into the eminent benefactor, that was when I got hooked into the story with this entire shadow isles package
It could be that the wisp mother gave kindred their masks. It didn't create kindred but met them somehow (It clearly has the power to see and interact with the dead) and gave them masks as a token of gratitude, they seem to have about the same mission after all.
Lady Erhyn waved off Tarnold’s offer, turning to Artlo. “An ominous choice. The Vulture picks at what remains, and when nothing is left... it flies on to perches far removed from here and waits for the next meal.”
A nice detail about the fading icon's description is that, a god's greates fear is being forgotten, a reference to voli and janna, that spirits/gods only gain as much power as ppl worship them
There's amazing quotes among all these cards, I know you addressed some of them. Later, the etherfiend has a LOT of interactions that point to him being the embodiment of the second death.
Some thoughts: Considering “Finishing Soates”, I am 99% sure the Etherfiend is no incarnation of Kindred in so far as they are death itself, while the Etherfiend is the second death. Let me explain: Kindred are the pale/grey man, which is canonically Death as a concept, or the End, or whatever you may call him. Everything ends, and he is that ending. The Etherfiend represents the “True Death” concept, where everything that acknowledges your existence has ended. That’s why in “Finishing Soates”, Soates envisions the end of her play as the Lamb killing the Wolf with an arrow, the Wolf killing the Lamb with its bare hands, and the Etherfiend lurking above, ready to carry away their remains. As when all existence has come to an end, the Concept of an End dies, and is carried into Oblivion. Kindred are the End, the Etherfiend is Oblivion. Additionally, regarding that the Mask Mother created Kindred: I think the Mask Mother is the forger of identity and breaths life into Concepts. Maybe it’s true that the Mask Mother depicted is just a Vastayah, maybe she just worships the concept of the Mask Mother and gets some powers that way, but hear me out: Kindred are wearing masks, the Etherfiend is wearing a mask, the Mask Mother wears a mask, and gives one to the unknown explorer, reforging his soul into the form of a pig that way. In “Finishing Soates”, the assumed patron claims that “Everyone must wear a mask”, to which the Protagonist agrees. The mask he wears let’s him see the vision Soates had for the end of the play, by assuming the identity of Soates. The actors become wolf and lamb and Etherfiend. And I believe, in Runeterra Lore, the mask is a metaphorical concept of identity, so the Concept of Death itself is given identity, life, being in a sense, through the masks of lamb and wolf. Maybe that’s why they are lamb and wolf, because the identity giving Mask Mother forged them their masks. The protagonist in the story see’s Soates vision because through the mask, he becomes Soates. Would love any additional thoughts on this. Maybe this is obvious and I’m just stating it unawarely, or I’m totally wrong and they all are something different entirely.
This is one of your best videos. You're showing people how deep Riot went with the lore of a single mysterious champ. This made the Shadow Isles much more interesting.
I mean it’s not like they ran away, they just got trapped. Now Viego is using them because some idiotic mortals would rather fight and won’t give him his woman’s soul fragments. I mean how stupid do mortals have to be? The soul they’re protecting is dead, if they keep protecting it, more people that are still alive and die, making Viego even more powerful and then he can kill more people using the people he killed until he gets all the fragments. It’s pretty stupid to trade hundreds/thousands of lives for a couple soul fragments that they don’t even fucking need. All of this ends up messing with Kindred because the more people die protecting some dumb fragments, the more souls Viego trap for his crusade, meaning more souls will be “running away” from kindred.
Love these kind of videos, Legends of Runeterra gives us such fun and interesting lore! That said what's the deal with Lissandra? We've spent the last year or so making her seem like a good character but with the new cards and interactions she seems like she's evil again with plans to freeze over the world again! Maybe these were her plans all along? I'm super curious on why she's evil again.
This kinda reminds me of the recent WoW expansion Shadowlands. Kindred kinda plays the same role as Bwonsamdi. And these others could be one of the Death Lords in the Shadowlands
The etherfiend card reminds me of Mexico’s day of the dead. Basically you have pictures of family who have past away and they live on in the afterlife as long as they are remembered by their living family. Obviously this was the main part of the Disney movie Coco
6:13 I think that's the same guy from the nocturne cards, the one that meets the double bat horse thing, you can see his pickaxe on the bottom is the same as in some of the cards.
I have this wacky theory, that all of these "death characters" and kindred are the Gray man working as a hive mind entity Kindred kills the body of living beings The mask mother shapes their spirits And the Ætherfiend claims them once they are forgotten And while kindred are the Main halves of the Gray man The other creatures are "shards" of the Gray man
