The vocal sound of Percussion Beats is called "Konnakkol" in Tamil. (Tamil Language) It is the vocal replication of musical beats.....like the Drum...Do you understand what I mean?? The rhythm shall e absolutely perfectly in sync with the drums playing together...That's a feat in itself....Man

To add to above - the 2 guys performing the vocal gymnastics ( precussion sounds) are Ranjit Barot & Sivamani - both Worlds Class drummers. Most Indian percussionists ( especially with a Classical learning foundation) Are taught the verbal sounds - equivalent - of the sounds they reproduce on the traditional Indian percussionists instruments like Tabla ( Hindustani Classical) , Mridangam, Ghatam ( Carnatic Classical - Read broadly North & South Indian Classical). For more performances in this rythmic vocal+ Instrumental elaboration of the beats, , please watch Ustad Zakir Hussain who is equally famous and renowned on the World Stage, especially in US

He has been doing stunning music for films and an occasional album for the last 30 years. I can't begin to recommend his work, do listen to 'Bombay Theme' for a start. A.R. Rahman somehow combines world music with Indian music to create, just, stunning work. He has managed to stay humble through all of it, and has continued to evolve as a composer and musician.
