It's not easy saying who makes the Best Annular Cutters but we decided to take a closer look at Euroboor and Hougen to see Which Cutter is Superior! If you're out there with a magnetic drill and your regularly drilling holes then you're going to know a decent bit of what we're saying in this video. But if this is something new for you then this video is going to tell you what you need to make an informed decision about the best annular cutters.

I own a set of the Hougen cutters--those intended for use in regular drills and drill presses, not the more heavy duty cutters used in mag drills. I've had a tough time getting a smooth cut, with a nice birds' nest of shavings, even when cutters are used in a drill press where I can be certain about RPM. The cutters will commonly skip, sometimes wandering off center (despite the presence of a center pin, which fits into a hole made previously by center drill), or stall the drill press. I imagine the heavier-duty versions work better, when used in a mag drill or vertical milling machine.

@@WBToolNews So sorry, forgot to mention: 1/4" mild steel. The smaller cutters can manage--what, 1/2"?--the larger ones 3/4" I think. That's a limitation. Also, I should mention that I see you can buy 3/4" Weldon to MT2 or MT3 arbors cheaply (Accusize makes some sets that come with one) for those who want to use in a drill press

Love the review, the euroboor site is very hard to navigate looking for a 1" depth of cut 5/8" with a welldon3/4" shank. I am just starting a build on a welding fixture table with over 180 holes would love to give it a shot!!

Annular cutters are great but come with one major pitfall. You cant sharpen them at home like a normal drill bit.

Hi Sophia, the study we reference in this video was carried out by a contact of ours whom we asked to test the cutters. We asked him to test them as fairly as possible and take no bias. There is no link because it wasn't a test done in a lab. Sorry to disappoint if you were expecting a link to a research/lab paper.

good review. any idea about the cutting forces and torque developed during core drilling? say empirical relation?

Hi Azhagarason, great question. I did some digging and there isn't a lot of material out there on this for Euroboor. But here's what I can say, cutting force and torque are going to be greatly affected by numerous variables i.e. material, downward pressure, lubricant used, etc. Assuming those are all constant, I still find this cutter to stand out from others because of its teeth geometry and number of teeth. The work of cutting is divided more evenly between all teeth. I hope that helps.

@@azhagarasonb5588 Yea, if you're looking for a formula to calculate cutting force you'll want to consider those variables, maybe as binary (with or without lubricant, etc). Interesting thought. Good luck!

I question made in Holland, it says Euroboor Holland on the cutter, NOT made in Holland, I believe they are made in CHINA, Id like you to do some homework and clarify this point , especially for the owners of Hougan USA and thier customers

Thanks for your comment! You're right, this cutter is in fact made in China, which makes it even more interesting it outlasted the USA-made Hougen cutter, despite common perceptions of products made in China. "American-made" is great and the study we reference shows that where it's made ISN'T more important than the design it was made from. Getting a well-designed tool is always going to be more important than where it was made. Thanks for bringing this up, Michael.

I'm an American War Veteran representing Euroboor in the US and proud to say that the Euroboor "Dutch" design is crushing all USA and english design. Where are your TCT cutters made? China? What else do you sell packaged or assemble in england?

Pretty vague review. Did you at least compare similar price. Judging from the difference in cutter profile, it looks like a low-end Hougen was compared to a high-end Euroboor.

As you probably know, Hougen is considered an industry leader with high-quality tools and Euroboor is quickly growing in North America. @@WBToolNews Appreciate the reply. I'm very familiar with these, I've been using Hougen and Greenlee for nearly a decade and Milwaukee on the mag-drill. Never used Euroboor because none of my distributors carry them. I mentioned price comparison because Hougen makes sets that range from under $100 to over $2000 (obviously not the same quality).

@@46inchwoody Right, those will definitely vary in quality and price. As for Euroboor's availability, this is their greatest obstacle right now. It's tough getting a foothold in an already well-established market, but it seems they're making progress. And thanks for doing the work you do!

If you pre drill like he’s saying you will ruin the larger diameter twist drill he is totally incorrect on the way you drill with a large diameter twist drill

Hi Jim, It really depend what steel you want to drill. On recycled steel you preferably do not want to drill with TCT tips.
