Of the several I have the Deka is my favorite. The detent is a little light but the lock studs and the thumb studs are so comfortable and "grabby." I've heard more than one reviewer complain about the Hogue studs and it just baffles me. Right now my fav edc's are Deka, Vision fg and Kansept Main Street. And it's the comfort of the studs on the Deka that keeps it in position 1. Every time I pick up the Vision or the MS, after putting down the Deka, I will, inevitably, have a thumb sllip of the stud. Deploying the blade I mean. But all three of my current primary rotation (my Sage 5 is always a big player in the rotation but doesn't really apply to this subject) all have kinda weak detents but I love all 3.

Same. I thought I knew what smooth was…. One day I’ll cross that $199 mark, and I’m sure I’ll be blown away

Other brands: James Brand, another fairly early adapter. I really like the Carter, has a totally different feel to it due to the G10 constructions. I also like the design a lot. Microtech MSI. To big a knife for me, but it does a lot right

Of all my axis lock knives, my Hogues are the best all around.

I also prefer an axis lock without bearings.

OMG dude. The colors on the hogue Deca. I still haven't got a knife with those colors. My favorite beater/do it all knife is the spartan blades Astor. I have green scales , and would absolutely love to do a tan blade.

If you're into that loo, it's generally referred to as "avocado" and river's edge cutlery (REC) uses that color scheme in a lot of their exclusive line knives

Great video, as usual - thank you! I really appreciate these types of comparisons; they're very useful, but most knife reviewers don't make them. One question though... you said the Tactile Maverick was only $250, but when I check their website - the Ti version is $350. Did you find a special deal somewhere? (The Micarta version is $250, but that's a lot less premium...)

I was referring to the Micarta as a starting point

My Hogue Deka in Magnacut has very good detent. Your mileage may vary knife to knife.

Appears that Hogue has a QC problem, as the new collectors series has problems with lock engagement.

I haven't got a kizer clutch lock yet. Just bc I'm not a fan of the drop bear blade shape. I've really been looking at the Sub 3 though. Really like the blade profile on it but haven't heard much feedback. Any thoughts, suggestions?

FYI Hogue has been making crossbar-locks for a long time, long before the patent did run out (the Doug Ritter knives)

I've wondered about the time frame on that. Been too lazy to actually look up the answer. But I felt like Hogue introduced their cross bar before the BM patent expired.

Benchmade made the Ritters before Hogue picked them up. I think there was third manufacturer in there as well...between BM and Hogue.

LTE version is just 2.3oz too! But the steel frames version is much smoother action, IMO

Can you back up. I'm hearing a lot of talk about detent this and detent that, but why is this an issue? Why would you want your knife to remain closed when the lock is opened?

I hear for a crossbar lock to work well u need to change the bar to a ball bearing, & put an oversized thumb hole, & etch a little bug on the blade..
