Who owns the sky? It's a very difficult question to answer. In this video we find out who the sky belongs to - and why it's a question that has more than one answer.
Since World War I, the US laws regarding airspace property rights evolved over the 20th century. Find out how the Uniform State Law on Aeronautics, the Air Commerce Act of 1926 and the Civil Aeronautics Act 1938 differed, and how the Supreme Court made its mark on aviation law in US vs Causby in 1946.

My $0.02 (for drones, especially): If you are crossing the airspace, and you do so quickly, expediently, and no more than 2 times (out and back), you do not cross regularly, you are not trespassing (essentially freedom of navigation). If you are loitering in the airspace, or making unnecessary maneuvers that increase your time, or you cross regularly, then you are trespassing, as the people have had their reasonable expectation to privacy when on their personal private property violated.

So what about the 500ft rule? An aircraft must stay clear from any person, vessel or structure/ obstacle at a minimum altitude of 500ft. In high density or populated areas, the distance increases to 1000ft above the highest obstacle on a radius of 2000ft. I.E the silo is 60ft so you fly 560ft above ground. Above a town you fly 1000ft above the roofs and stay 2000ft away from the tower/church/ antenna. If you want to go over the church which is 300ft high, then you must fly at 1300 AGL while in that radius.

Hmm interesting, in economics the sky would be considered as a common property good meaning that it's shared by everyone without limits. But i guess the time has come that sections of the sky/airspace are becoming owned now.
