I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your frolicking. Anyway, you’re probably already aware of this guy; but…m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DGvbwZJMWxw.html I thought you might like the tastefulness of this video. Very unassuming and powerful. (p.s. I am not affiliated with him; I just thought it’d bring an even bigger smile to your face). Cheers!
I am sorry for the weird interaction we had on the street here in Germany. I just like your music and meeting you randomly on the street was a nice surprise. Have a nice stay. Sincerely, your neighbor
Justin, love your analysis. At the same event, Miley and Sia performed Paris Hilton's hit "Stars Are Blind" and Paris joined them at the end. Did you see that and could you do a video on that one too, please?
My Dad owned the shop across the street from the pub where David Bowie filmed the original video clip for this song. Little Aussie town called Carinda, NSW. They have a Bowie Fest there every year since his death, minus the covid year. The wall where Bowie sang in front of still looks the same, as does the rest of the pub.
I think that’s great! especially the fact they still pay a tribute to him. I have to confess that the bar in that video always gave the sense of a place that was utterly desolate, the obvious contrast being that one of the most famous musicians in the world had somehow randomly ‘dropped in’ to do a gig there. I’m sure in reality it’s a cool place!
Such a funky little Outback Tap Room! Congratulations for being from that Tiny Australian town! I can't forget the two Aborigines kids dancing , the girl in the red shoes.
David Byrne is one of the 80s geniuses IMO. The dude made bangers in a genre no one had ever heard or thought of. I remember being confused by why I liked his music when I was a kid. It was both ridiculous and amazing.
🎶and you may find yourself with a beautiful wife, a beautiful house and a beautiful car and you might ask yourself "where does this🎵highway lead to??" 💨🤍
Seeing David Bryne here with Miley reminded me of his work with St. Vincent who I think, their earlier work at least, deserves a look as well. Certainly a super unique voice as a singer and guitar player. Not many artists with mainstream success who cite King Crimson as a major influence
@9:19 the way Miley slides up out of "and if you say run" is killer. I mean sliding up into a note is quotidien, but going out at the end takes balls.I think that might be why David's staring at her derriere: wondering what she's hiding under that fantastic sparkly dress. 🤣
Got to see David Byrne on his Rei Momo tour. The stage was filled with incredible musicians, and David was in the sharing center. I was supposed to see David Bowie's Serious Moonlight Tour. Sadly though, because of some of the inflictions you had also Justin, my funds were spent elsewhere. Ya know, a concert was the beginning of my recovery. It was the Grand Funk Railroad reunion tour when all three original band members performed together on stage. It was back in 98. I had already missed out on Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, etc, yes it was a long battle, and I was sick and tired of being sick and tired and missing out on the things I used to love to do. With only enough loot to do one or the other, I went with seeing a band that I grew up with. It was still about a year after that until I had completely enough, but the bow of my ship turned to daybreak, instead of a sinking sun. If you haven't heard *Grand Funk's Heartbreaker* , then give it a listen on their live album *Caught in the Act* . I did get to see David Byrne on my first attempt.
I scrolled through the Sam Ryder thing on iplayer...you were thumbnailed on the first part but not on till the second part! 6 mins of my life I'll not get back..the scrolling - you were both great :D
Regarding your mum watching TV . Brings back memories for me. We used to practise with a full size premier drum kit upstairs while mum tried to watch coronation street downstairs. Mum and Dad always said they did not mind , as at least they knew where me and my brother were lol.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was John Barrowman. Anyway, this is a stroke of genius, Miley has a great voice & David Byrne is a legend & sounds great!
Absolutely love David Byrne! He really does sound as he always has, and is really just so original; unlike anyone else! I'm glad he's being highlighted. Miley is such a show-stealer, in the best way possible. I'm really enjoying these pairings of her with some of our older musical stars. I think it brings younger attention to these older artists, which benefit both the artists (as they deserve the attention) and our youth (as they deserve the musical history). Brilliant.
David Byrne is a fantastic performer. His American Utopia is unlike any other concerts from other legacy artists or bands. He took the idea from Talking Heads’a Speaking in Tongues tour, & maintained that basic set design for his Utopia tour but had the instrumentalists carry & dancewith their instruments such as drums, cymbals, keyboards etc. David still has an amazing voice, & it’s brilliant that he’s still able to be relevant in this day & age of Tik Tok & other flash in the pan trends.
I thought the same thing!!! I’m real time I was trying to figure out why he was involved, he NEVER does anything mainstream!!! Why not a talking heads sing maybe? Lol Great stuff again Justin, cheers from the depths of Buffalo, NY, home to where several rabid Darkness fans dwell!!!!👏🔥
What a genius combination! Who’d have thunk it? By coincidence, I’d just enjoyed the original film clip for Bowie’s version this morning on ABC (Australian) TV’s “Rage”. It got me thinking how different a perspective that clip provides of the Blue Mountains compared to the music video shot at the same location for “Love is Only a Feeling” by The Darkness. I’ve heard Justin lament the creative straight-jacket that was imposed in the making of the latter video; and wondering if you’d consider coming back to Oz to work with some avant garde young video producers for your next album/single releases.
My neighbor was telling me how BAD this was - he's one of those who made The Weeknd's ditty the number one stream so I had to check it out myself. Quality work! They also let David sing one off of his new record (Everyone Is Coming To My House) which is a real banger and I'm guessing is the reason they got him to agree to sing with Miley. I give him extra credit for not staring at her legs the entire set. BTW - don't hold your breath for that Talking Heads reunion. Apparently Mr Byrne and his old bandmates aren't speaking.
The whole Miley Cyrus New Years thing just felt weird. My wife thought the same thing. I did give my wife a music lesson and showed her some old Talking Heads videos after this performance.
5:58 - to your point, and I'm not a fan of her personality, but for anyone doubting, just youtube 'miley metallica nothing else matters' .... that woman can "belt" in a very good way.
I feel so fortunate to have seen a Talking Heads show back when they were at their peak! David Byrne is a total original. Miley is adorable and man what a voice! Miley=Rock
Hi Justin. Thank you for sharing this. He was great. Miley I cannot get used to her voice, grates on me. She look amazing though and has a good stage Prescence. Not criticising her at all, just personal preference.
I am temorarily crashing with my folks as well. It's just until I can close on a house, and it''s been great, but I'm anxious to be in my own space again,,,play my instruments loudly without disturbing anyone.
I didn't even recognize him at first but when I listened to him I figured out who it was. I'll never forget when I heard TalkingHeads on cassette for the first time that I borrowed from my friend pretty sure I never gave it back. Anyway David Byrne is the best and he's still got it going on. He definitely should have worn this zoot suit. I still think of that as his trademark. People might have caught on quicker who he was he looks different now. I guess we all do 🤷
Miley has a Marianne Faithful Tone to her voice in this song. Awesome. I wish David didn’t have the headpiece, a bit of a Ted talk look or hang over from when he performed with St.Vincent. In that performance it made more sense because he was moving a lot. BTW I love talking heads and stop making sense film was my favorite Byrne performance.
That guitar has a certain spice to it; Nice and dark, and kinda "cozy" mids, and very light airy highs. So nice ♡ I don't remember ever hearing Miley's voice ever before. That's something, never thought she sounded like that....I guess I never thought about it at all, ha. Much love to you Mr. Hawkins ♡
Legendary has many aspects and I believe mine and yours are on different ends of a spectrum. Possibly in different dimensions in different galaxies. Just sayin.
Some ultra massive forces at work here, so 'Let's Dance' is a tough bar under which to limbo.. In addition to Ms Cyrus and D. Byrne (both huge), the man with hands on levers for the original was Nile Rogers.. I mean, who else truly deserves to have a Strat called 'The Hitmaker'? From what I hear, all come nicely up to snuff, so I concur (oh by the way, for those who wonder, the correct pronunciation of the late Master's name would be Bowie, to rhyme with Zoe).. I always associated the hand gesture with an exercise for the hand flexors, but now I know what it REALLY is, I'll be doing it like bloody Billy-o!! 👍On NO ACCOUNT should necklaces be worn over polos, unless you want to look like The Weekend on a Tuesday morning. I enjoyed the bluesy vsn of Theme Music at the top of the vid v much! Very cool. 🎶🌟👍
Ol' Dave & Miley ain't got nothin' on the Electrik Love In!We played the shittiest, worst sounding room dive bar in Simi Valley California new year's eve to a small but enthusiastic & very drunk audience. It was wonderful!
Also (incase u read this), I found out about your channel via the happy hour podcast. Did you enjoy going on it?? Would you go back on it again? They have brought you up in episodes since saying how much they enjoyed having you on!!
Miley is always good shes solid. David looks very good for his age and he was always a rather odd and awkward performer but thats just how he does it and its still a pleasure to see him on the stage.
I have to say Miley earned my respect at the Chris Cornell tribute concert. When I found out that she was going to be singing Say Hello to Heaven I almost lost my sheet. I almost didn't watch it, cut you a little over a minute in and I'm balling like a kid with a skinned knee.
I'm not a fan of her original music, but she is a terrific vocalist. Every rock cover I have heard her do, she's absolutely smashed it, and clearly loves the classics. I just wish she would bring some more of those elements into her song writing. The material isn't bad, but she could do so much more.
@@marcdigiambattista751 her last record Plastic Heart is a Rock album it's an absolute banger listen to it... Also Miley's new record coming up soon... Might have an element of surprise.
David Byrne is a silver fox!! Holy smokes, he looks terrific!! And I officially became a Miley fan when she posted all those rock covers during the pandemic. She's always seemed to be an old soul & I feel that she's definitely found her element as a rock star. ✨️
I don't or haven't watched the voice but it seemed her appearances on there were riotously humorous. One exchange was being told you're not too old to take over my knee to which Miley responded don't threaten me with a good time and then leave me hanging! It may have been written for her but she delivered it nicely.
It’s funny you were surprised Miley’s only thirty. I mean it makes sense, given that she’s been in the public eye for so long, but I had the opposite reaction because I still feel like 2013 was 5 minutes ago 😂 “child star Miley Cyrus is THIRTY?” Totally agree about her being the real deal though
You’re joking, right? Have you ever met the guy? Because I have. I miss performance is horrible. It’s so sweet that Miley stood back, but he needs to retire.
The original version of Let's Dance is endlessly entertaining. A million different perfect things happen in that song. The tasty Omar drums, the perfect Stevie Ray Vaughn solo, the excellen horn arrangements, I never get tired of it.
@@Cameron655 All that beautiful empty space in the mix, his patience with the vocals, the baseline that's mostly just quarter notes, that snare hit on 4 right after the first chorus, ooooh.
yeah man. one of those songs (and albums) that has so much going on you still hear surprises, 1000 listens later. but isn't that tony thompson on let's dance?
I don't think their voices blend all that well together, but they both sing the song admirably. It's lovely to see David Byrne on the telly. Have you seen his American Utopia show? I believe it's available on HBO. It's really a terrific show where he and his incredible band reinterpret his songs.
I only recently discovered the Talking Heads concert movie "Stop making sense" and the song Heaven - second track in the gig - What a great and amazing song and performance. Love David Byrne.
I'm 48 years old and grew up on rock music and I can honestly say I love Miley Cyrus. I won't say that I like her pop stuff but she's an amazing vocalist and performer. Actually she would be a perfect front for a rock band she has such a distinctive voice. The thing she did with Metallica was pretty great.
I think more Talking Heads talk would be fantastic, be it their debut album or an episode on Stop Making Sense... Even some Justin insight on stuff like Byrne's American Utopia show from a performance standpoint would be cool
Would lurve you to do some Bowie's glam stuff (Ziggy or Aladdin Sane) in your vids. Mick Ronson's guitars sound amazing and would be good to get your steer
Firstly, I love your channel Justin, you keep me entertained on the daily. Secondly, I understand that you need to grab the attention of the herds with your titles, but could you possible keep the names of the bands you are reviewing in the title so they can be easily searched for? Keep up the good work and review more stuff from the 90s if possible, I know you probably would like to seem more relevant to the masses, but we're both antiques by now and I know you want to cover more material from our heydays! Cheers!!
Wait, what she's 30. I thought she'd just got out of her Teens. I'm still watching Hannah Montana. As for David. I'm not sure about this. To me his voice only work's for his song's. It sounded the equivalent of a sore thumb. Don't hate. Opinion only.
Spent my NYE with you and Sam on my tv! The neighbours did as well…well they had no choice as I turned up the volume!!! 🤣🤣 Best NYE viewing in a long time and loved the collab. If it’s on Spotify I’d put it on repeat, even while I’m sleeping so you could beat Blinding lights!
His isolating of the snare breaks and their variations, really blew me away. Such simple things are so important, but not always noticed. Add the fact that he knew it was Omar Hakim on the original recording- super impressive! This is my first time seeing this RU-vid channel and I had to Google who Justin is. Of course, I know his band. Super cool that he does this channel!
Can I just say that I love that we are watching a rock star as his Mum is in the background watching TV ❤ Justin, you’re a legend 😊 All the best for the new year to you and family
David should have done more with Annie Clarke. The Love This Giant album is very good and the tour they did with the 8-piece brass ensemble was wonderful.
Who it seems who ever miley Cyrus sings with on stage she picks the right songs for her and gets right into the weather it’s rock country or what ever the style of music I agree buh great performer and puts body and soul into everything she does
I am amazed how great Miley’s voice is. I hope that she’s over the drugs and lunacy and has a long productive life. I’ve heard her do enough a cappella. Her pitch is excellent. No auto tune needed.
You were cool New Years Eve. My partner thought you were great she was loving how you just took over the stage and went full on glam and glitz. Wish you'd done another track all went too quickly. 🎸🔥☮️❤️
