Who was Abraham? Abraham is one of the earliest and most important Biblical figures in the Old Testament as the first Patriarch.
Abraham is known for many things, but especially these three events:
1. God's Covenant with Abraham - Despite his old age and having no children, God promised to make a covenant with Abraham. He changed his name from Abram to Abraham and promised that his descendants would be as plentiful as the stars in the sky and the sands of the earth.
2. Abraham and Sarah's Son Isaac - Abraham and Sarah were old and had doubts that they would be able to have children. Abraham had a son with Sarah's servant Hagar and they named him Ishmael. Later God sent angels in disguise to visit Abraham and Sarah. They welcomed and served them and God awarded their hospitality with a son they named Isaac.
3. Sacrifice of Isaac - God tested Abraham's faith again when he asked him to kill his son Isaac as a sacrifice to him. When he proved to God that he would give up his son, which was more precious to him than anything in the world, God stopped him and supplied a ram as sacrifice instead.

Abraham was the first Patriarch and father of all the people of Israel.
He was born with the name Abram in the land of Ur, east of the land of Canaan (later Israel). God spoke to him and told him to leave his home in Ur and move to a new land. God promised he would establish a covenant with him and he would have as many descendants as there were stars in the sky.
Eventually, Abram and his wife, Sarai, arrived in the land of Canaan but after ten years they were unable to have children. They had doubt in God’s plan. Abram took on a second wife, Sarai’s servant Hagar, and together they had a son named Ishmael.
God appeared to Abram in his old age and established a covenant with him. He gave him a new name, Abraham, and his wife he called Sarah. Then three strangers came to visit Abraham and Sarah. They welcomed the strangers and before they left one of them promised that Sarah would bear a son in the next year. Sarah did give birth to a son and they named him Isaac. The visitors were angels sent from God.
A few years later God tested the faith of Abraham again by asking him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham listened to God, but God sent his angel to stop Abraham from giving up his son. Abraham died after a very long life and his sons, Isaac and Ishmael, buried him next to his wife, Sarah.
