In May 1990, Marlene Warren was 40-years-old when she opened the door of her peaceful Wellington, Florida home to find a clown on her doorstep holding flowers and balloons. As Marlene accepted the gifts, the clown pulled out a gun and shot her in the head. Marlene’s 21-year-old son witnessed his mother’s murder and chased down the clown as it calmly drove off.
Who would commit such a heinous murder of a beloved mother with no known enemies? Nothing was stolen from Marlene or the house, so robbery was not the motive. Law enforcement soon focused on the possibility of a love triangle, with Marlene’s philandering husband, Michael, possibly being involved. But, with a lack of evidence, no arrests were made, and the case grew cold.
In 2017, new DNA evidence led investigators to Michael’s then mistress, now his wife, Sheila Keen Warren. The Killer Clown was soon arrested and charged with first degree murder. After years of delays, the case finally culminated in 2023.
