Hahaha when you're at the age of fangirling/fanboying over idols, it's true that idols bring comfort and strength and motivation. But when you have passed that age already, although you still like the idols, you'll be embarrassed about the stupid things you do or thoughts you have back then.
international fans really don't realize how popular and impactful BIGBANG were in Korea during their prime years, Everyone in Korea loved their songs from all ages
I'm the educated international fan here...lol BIGBANG always create history. History isn't the same with popularity. When people reminisce bigbang it's always music first. I bet VIP never know how much their awards or their records. Their music itself is more precious than any awards
Most fans came into K-POP recently due to all of the RU-vid reactions so I can’t really blame them for not realising how impactful Big Bang were back in the day .
International fans now don't know... Back in the day international fans did know how they were. It's just a different generation now... Like Madonna back in the day and Ariana Grande now...
Exo is my youth. I still remember how they're so crazily popular after releasing growl back then. I found my co exol literally everywhere in my school even tho I don't live in korea 😂 proud to be an exol ❤️
i used to “stan” exo or whatever back when i used twitter, i grew out of that kpop phase so i dont listen to kpop anymore but i still love the members so much and have their pictures on my wall
Oh! It brings back good memories of my high school days with my CO-EXOL friends. Actually, My friends brought Kpop in me, and the first ever group I Stan was, the one and only EXO. WE ARE ONE.
My sister used to stan EXO around 12-13 and i was just watching her like "Is this girl crazy" i remember drawing on her poster cause i found it funny. Now she's the one laughing while looking at my kpop collection.
The last man... His statement was absolutely relatable. I remember spending lots of time, effort, money & whatever for Kpop. There were times I regret being the fan that I am. But really, everything was worth the time, effort & money. Having anxiety & depression, Kpop became my motivation, inspiration, & sanctuary. It saved me from deep ends & I'm always grateful... Sometimes, we just need that leap of faith in something, no matter how others perceive them & no matter what others say. 😊
I completely understand where you’re coming from. I had a very rough childhood especially during my middle and early high school years. If it weren’t for kpop, f(x) and SHINee in particular, I’m not sure I’d be here today. The friends I made in the fandom plus the encouragement and love I felt from the actual idols was one of the only things keeping me going during dark times. I’ll always be thankful to those groups but also the entire industry for helping me like that.
sometimes it seems like people forget there's a whole life outside of kpop and it's completely okay if you want to 'unstan' or simply lose in interest in them. all these kpop idols don't owe you guys anything the same way fans don't owe them anything. life will still continue and just focus on other things.
I think it's also totally okay to be a fan, and listen to a group or artist casually. Recently the whole 'stanning' culture has led to people believing they should devote every second of their lives to their idols. Being a fan means enjoying someone's music and work, not feeling pressured to stream their mv's and feeling like you're a lesser fan when you don't.
@@xdanosaurx you really said the truth . I also feel that . Some can enjoy them casually if one doesn't want to devote their whole life to idol that should totally be okay. Not all of the music lover are same.. i am also one of them. I prefer to enjoy .not invest my everything, every minute of life to them.that's total obsession . obsessing over something or being fan is totally two different thing .it leads to depression at one point .I've seen so many people like that.
*"LIES"* from BIG BANG was literally EVERYWHERE in Korea, it was such a huge and impactful hit, breaking the decade old records of Seo Taiji And Boys. Also, unlike other K-Pop hits by idols, Lies was loved by every age group, BIG BANG and TVXQ were the standard man... Good days 💖
EXO got me into kpop, they gave me comfort in life. And i think EXO is a timeless kpop group they've been in the industry for like 8 years now but their fame is still soaring. I just love how humble they are and their personalities makes me fall in love even harder I am also a lowkey fan of Bigbang, their songs are just so remarkable. I love every song they have especially loser and last dance. I always listen to their songs whenever im in a bad mood. Their songs makes me sing a long to it unintentionally and i love it.
Boy groups are much more popular than girl groups in general in korea Edit: Please stop replying to me I don't need to hear the same thing 10 times I said what I said.
@@FarrahGoez yeah i know i'm a sone. But even the most popular girl groups don't come close to the most popular boy groups (except maybe blackpink nowadays is an exception, but still not as popular as bts)
Im in that era when snsd is the most popular girlgroup in korea they are here and there, and i remember skipped my course with my friends just to go to their concert. oh i miss the old times :(
Omg, hearing Lies by BIGBANG made me emotional. To this day, they are still my absolute favorite kpop group of all time. They are just absolute kings and no one can deny that. It’s crazy how newer generations arent as aware of the impact BIGBANG not only brought to Korea, but worldwide. They were the first to so many things: the first to make a light stick, the first to reach an insane anoint of ppl attempting their tours worldwide, and the first to many more awards. I just love them so much and hope that their appreciation is not lost.
There will never be another Tvxq, bigbang, girls generation, 2ne1, wonder girls, Kara. There was something different about those idols and for me it was the most memorable kpop era. They made it what it is today.
yes, i think it was less about 'skill', like who can sing the highest notes etc, not that they're not skillful, but the way they had such an impactful presence and aura to them general, it was really displayed in their performances and music. it is unmatched.
Yesyes, add beast, infinite, superjunior, Sistar , Mblaq, MissA , BoA , Shinee, Ss5o1, ...and the list goes on... I'm sure I'm not biased that was a beautiful era indeed ...i get hit by nostalgia everytime...U___U
@J S sis/bro you did NOT watch DBSK or infinite then ...and many others...there were MANY groups that had cool challenging choreographies with upbeat music...no one is bashing the current kpop but also no one should degrade the 2nd or 1st kpop generations cause as another comment said they shaped the current kpop and made it what it is now,,, they wouldn't have gotten a bit famous if not for other gens since they're the ones who made kpop go international
@@kaonashiyakuza that doesn’t mean modern music didn’t do any impact, it’s just the matter of generation, let people like what they like and think what they think, old school, popping, robot dance was popular then and now something will definitely replace it, I also think that dancers nowadays are more fluid than before but all of those times are still greater. These generations are unmatched but can not be compared too, they have their own styles, even me as a fan of Kpop 1st generation (H.O.T, GOD, Shinhwa, FINKL, Baby VOX,...) I still agree that artists are getting more diverse and productive through times. In the end, it’s just our preference to take a like for which generation, this reply go for both you and the person commented before u
The fact that I started loving Kpop music is because of Bigbang and probably ending it with EXO. Kpop music is really incredible. They really comfort, makes me feel love, understanding that music doesn't have any barrier, and inspires me a lot to be a better person. I will always be thankful for Bigbang for introducing Kpop to me 💗

"I should have focused on my own life instead of wasting time admiring them " That is so true! I was really into K-pop a few years ago, so much that it affected my health from not sleeping well. I wanted to see everything related to this group. Then I slowly withdrew myself from it all and was able to enjoy my family a bit more and succeed in my studies. There's nothing wrong with supporting a group, but there has to be a balance. I still support some groups but not constantly being active in all their works.
I started listening to kpop from 2018 and I am 20 now. I am about to finish my UG this March , but I can't leave kpop.. I tried to leave, but some groups were with me in the times I had depression and anxiety. But on the other hand, I am about to do my PG and start working. I am a grown woman now, I didn't realise that I have become 20 already 🙄. Now I have started reducing the time spent on kpop. I hope I can reduce it and focus more on my life ❤️ but I find it really hard 😭
@@yeojinlover9278 frrr lmao, kpop is life for me and it made me happy but now I'm not giving it any attention now, I listen to music but I'm not really watching the idols anymore but I do support them. I won't ever let kpop take over my existence because my feelings come first before anybody else and it should be the same for everybody else. I don't know how people let it get this bad, I do wait like 3 hours for a song to get released from my favorite artist but if I'm really tired I'll sleep and wait till the next day
The message at the end got me bawling and I am 27 years old now. Being attached deeply on one thing surely unattached us from another thing. Thanks Sir for reminding me which one to hold.
been a fan of EXO for 8 years now. they are basically part of my life. i watched them grow older, bigger, as i grow older too. their music was my strength during my preteen years and know i'm on my way to 19. as time passed by, I didnt regret a thing. they taught me so much, wether it's about friendship or about being a humble and kind human being that always try to put smile on others life. road to 10 years and more. :)
@@mariunfabregas7533 Snsd always had many fangirls too about EXO if we’re talking 2012-2013 EXO they barely had any male fans, they started out very flowery and preppy which attracted females more than males, nowdays that they grown up and has mature sounds they gained lot of fanboys but still female ratio still dominates😊
Bigbang was like the Lady Gaga of kpop scene back in the day artistically and in terms of popularity even if you don’t like them there’s no way in hell you don’t know them
@@serenityq26 what do u mean with “real” music. What is considered real and fake? thats a weird way to describe music since everyone can have different opinions about it
@@hoefosho7680 i agree with you!! plus a lot of bigbang’s appeal for me was that they were involved with the production of all of their music instead of just performing a song given to them by their company
For someone who started loving Kpop back in 2006, I'd say comparing then & now artists is a stretch, considering the gap in technology, as well as social media coverage & influence. If those who made it big back then started the same years with those popular now, the competition will definitely be tougher. It truly is someone's generation one after another, but it's highly commendable how those who made it big back then rose to great heights with limited resources compared to now. Kpop is absolutely amazing. 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜
@Nifty Spark I don't think many really think that, I mean there would be a few but the majority can look back and see how different it is even if they are still pretty young. I mean you go back 20 years and kpop is only just starting, Idols as they are today aren't really a thing and the first proper what we would call kpop dances are only just being made. I will admit there are some idiots out there who think it's always been this way but the majority of them are Americans who only like BTS.
If only everyone can have the same thought like you, the Kpop world would be so peaceful now. But sadly, a lot of new Kpop fans being so disrespect to older Kpop artists.. They harshly denying the impact of earlier Kpop artists and being so arrogant too..
Most of the new kpopies would never understand that. Little did they know, all those groups who debuted before 2010 literally climbed manually and still made it even without much of a help from technology back then.
I wanna thank EXO for existing. They aren't the first K-Pop that I stan but they are my last, since I am actually too old to call myself as fangirl. Later when I'm older, EXO will be my happy memories. I hope the EXO boys will always be healthy and have more successful career as a group or individual artists
I'm a 01' liner and surprisingly Big Bang was the one that brought me in to kpop in 2014. GD's crooked and Taeyang's ringa linga was my biggest hit back then.
I'm 01 liner a well and BIGBANG with Super Junior brought me into kpop too but back in 2011. I think I got into kpop really early for my age: I was going around RU-vid listening to anime songs. They were in Japanese but at some point I found myself listening to Mr. Simple by Super Junior and Tonight by BIGBANG. RU-vid algorithm did the magic.
@@loon7181 you don't have to be a kpop idol to use the word liner tho 😂like what @chiara said it's just a short form and faster way to say that we were born in 2001. P/s 90s kids will use "s" at the end of their birth year and same goes to 00 onwards we use 00' liner instead of using "S"
I was never into kpop but all my friends were. They would recommend sooo many kpop groups but surprisingly never recommended BTS??? It's ironoic because they were the only group I discovered on my own and were also the only one that stuck. There's just something special about them. Something sincere, genuine and comforting
i became an army because my twin sister kept playing their music all the time until i fell inlove with jungkook's voice. i was an exo-l and she was an army from the start that's why we always had silent competition. it felt like i drew the white flag when i became an army hahaha. good old times~
for me i’m the opposite. a friend recommended i listen to bts and i did. i became an army but then i introduced myself to other groups. i am a multistan although i don’t stan bts anymore. i’ve basically moved on. i stan around 40+ groups. the number one group that i listen to a lot nowadays is the boyz
same.. i tried to give a chance to other groups but i keep coming back to them.. their music, peraonality and how they hold themselves up is truly genuine that you can relate with them.. my first and last artist to stan..
As you grow older, you get a different perspective of the life you lived in the past and you may feel a sense of pride or regret about it. That's just life, you don't remain stagnant, you grow. I've been a fan of BTS for almost 6 yrs now and I honestly know time will come they have to focus on other things and the same goes to me as well. But one thing I know for sure is that during the most confusing and heartbreaking time of my life a little before I turned 20, they're the one who remained constant in giving me comfort and inspiring me through their music. I might have spent my whole youth with them and some people would think it'd be worthless, they can keep on believing that if that's the truth for them, but the truth for me is that I can't even be writing this right now if I haven't listened to Tomorrow and Not Today yrs ago, to keep it simple. So maybe me supporting BTS 'til now is a sense of gratitude. I really just wish that in the future they'd have a beautiful and majestic landing as it is for an eagle after a very long flight. I hope I'd be there to witness that happen. In the future, I also hope I'd be just as willing as I am right now to have good people surround me and impact my life in different ways for me to grow and learn as a person.
I was 15 when EXO debuted and now I'm 24 and still love EXO as much as I did back then 😭 they are my memories, my youth. Looking at them always reminds me of my happy teenage life ❤
I am a multi stan but EXO always feel like home for me. No matter how many groups I stan or how many idols become my bias, I always go back to EXO, always them. I can't even describe how much they impacted me. All I can say is that they are my youth.
I started stanning at 20, and at 26, I'm still an Exo-L. Somehow, listening to their songs feels like going back home. I remember having a very hectic and somewhat horrible sched three years ago. I remember getting on the train at a very late hour, eyes sleepy, and feet tired. But when I put on my earphones and listened to "Smile On My Face", my tensed shoulders relaxed, and I vividly remember breathing a sigh of relief. Their voices felt familiar. Their songs felt like home.
lmao. True. Became a fan of soshi around late 2007-ish to early 2008 and then, I just found myself stanning groups before them. I even became a fan of Shinhwa, S.E.S and H.O.T.🤣

it feels so weird now that i could relate to the people here who said they're not as crazy over their favs as they were in the past. i loved bts since i was 13 and i'm 18 now. in the past, i've always told myself i'd love them till the end, even if people told me there will be a time where i'll lose interest in them.. so many years has passed since then, i admit that i don't follow up with them as much as i used to anymore. i won't say that i fell out of love with them, it feels more like as if i'm moving on to a new stage of my life to discover so many more new things. also i'm a senior is high school and getting ready for colleges soon so i'm super busy and it's hard for me to keep up with every schedule of my favs. but one thing for sure is that they've made such a huge impact on my adolescence phase and i'll never thank them enough for that. i'll always love and support them for an eternity
You LITTERLY have the same back story as me getting into kpop/bts at 13 now 19 I remember watching every interview, run episode, live stage and staying up till dawn just see a mv as soon as it dropped, but now im getting older about to start a new chapter in my life ive lost all those habits but try to stay updated when I have free time or bored I still listen to all their music and they will always have a special place in my heart especially since I watch them grown to be the great artist they are today
Kinda same story with different plot, yep I found them when I was just 13 and now I'm 19, still... I'm an crazy Fangirl for them, lol it's becuz I changed my bias twice 💀, and Yep, so matter what they're so special to me, cuz I made an true friend who was an army, pls before discovering them I use to be such an nerd, they really influenced my lifestyles and I just couldn't thank them enough for everything they did, even without knowing bout my Existence lmao
There was a rush in my body as soon as “ And the billboard award goes to... BTS" and they all started saying bangtan sonyeondan and bts. I know our boys are famous, but my heart starts beating so fast every time I hear their name😊
i literally grew with exo. i was 13 when i stanned them, and it was during growl era. now, i'm 20, and i still like them as much as i did when i was 13. exo really has been my youth and one of my bestest friends. 😢
Exo is timeless, their music is like fine wine it's gets even better ♡ Finally found my people I got into kpop because of exo, I'm an older fan but I take to heart old kpop and appreciate the groups who are making their name stand out like bts

I like that video how he create a rap just about a voting He also tell a phrase "Vote is yours but future is ours" So I just subscribed them and now they have become so big stars I am just proud to be army 💜
I remember growing up on rain, gg, and suju... going through middle school with exo, b2st, and the rise of the 2012-2013 groups, but now I couldn't tell you a lot of the current popular ones lol
EXO literally broked a lot of record especially in 2013 (where they get REALLY POPULAR as a 2 year old group) and now.... they're still soaring high because of exols 😭
Kpop has been popular since early 2000s just not as much as these days, imo the wave started in the East Asian countries then went down to SEA countries in late 2000s, I'd say 2008 - 2009 was the breakthrough years for kpop. Personally for me, the first kpop star I knew was BoA somewhere in early 2000s but I thought she was Japanese 🤣 then I heard about Super Junior in 2007 from my friend. In 2009, I heard SuJu Sorry Sorry in MTV Asia and Channel V bcoz they played it A LOT, alongside SNSD Gee, Big Bang Haru Haru and Lies and Wonder Girls Nobody. Those songs were the ones that brought me to become a kpop fan. However, I have to say my ultimate fave would be EXO. I started stanning them since their debut in 2012, I watch them from the very beginning until they become who they are today so it feels somehow special. Everyone agrees that 2013 was EXO. They were literally everywhere and the question that people asked back then wasn't "who is your fave kpop artist?" but "who is your fave exo member?" 😆 Fast forward to 2021, the group I'm into these days is NCT (look SM this is the brand loyalty that you're looking for! still dislike you for so many things tho ☺) I don't stan these kids as much/hard as EXO, I do enjoy some of their songs and their content but maybe bcoz I get older I don't actively fangirling over kpop stars these days. Just watching from the sidelines now~
sorry to burst your bubble, but realistically there was no real break-through for kpop until BTS. i've been a kpop fan of 12+ years myself, and many kpop groups like wonder girls or snsd "attempted" to break through globally and constantly failed (even they admitted they failed). ofcourse there were kpop stans such as myself, but non-kpop fans barely knew about any kpop groups/artists. BTS was the real break-through even though they didn't directly target the international market, they paved and opened the way for kpop's recognition now.
@@piedpiper1234 my definition for kpop breakthrough in 2008 - 2009 was when it began to be popular outside of south korea, and china as well as south-east asia are also countries outside of korea and part of the 'global' expansion where the hallyu wave began. i know that aiming for US market is where people think you're 'making it' globally but the US is not the only country in the world. many non-kpop fans in those countries at least have heard super junior or wonder girls before. even in my country (4th largest population in the world) when people were asked about kpop, many of them woud answer super junior or even better, some people only know names like siwon or actor lee minho. i'm sorry if this comes as rude but i just don't like it when people think breaking through globally only count what people in the west or the US see, us Asians exists and as someone who has lived in several asian countries, I saw how kpop started to become popular during those years, even for non-kpop fans or literal muggles in those countries.
For me, VIXX is the special group that makes me feel comfortable. Back when I first got into KPOP, they were the first group that I latched onto and connected not only with their music, but their personalities. I couldn't get enough of them. I still can't, they're all wonderful boys who make a lot of wonderful music, but sadly life has gotten in the way of me following them as close as I did in high school. Hopefully, I can find some time to watch some stuff I missed.
*The way Exo are still maintaining relevancy even as a 9 year old group just shows their impact. Popularity will die down, but they will always be remembered for being legends. Theyre honestly the reason I got into kpop and my literal role models😭*
"I should have focused on my own life, instead of wasting my time on them" Yes indeed sir, i feel that statement a lot. But they give not only pleasure but comfort and courage too. However we should focus more on ourselves. True ❤️
Gotta say this I'm a proud SM stan forever! SM, a company full of multi-talented artists. No one can change my mind how legendary is Lee Sooman and especially his artists.
