It's Sunday again, and time to get the tea out^^. It's really nice to see all this background information about the key persons, so we get to know them better. When you see the pictures of the real people next to the actors, it is clear that HBO did their utmost to get the actors to look at close to the real people as they could. The only person they could have done better is Toptunov. The epic meltdown Shcherbina has in HBO's "Chernobyl" episode 4, after finding out they gave Germany the propaganda number, would have made Reactor 4 blush in utter embarrassment. Skarsgard outdid himself there, and then some. The look on both Legasov's and general Tarakanov's face was absolutely priceless. The in-game footage of the Unit 4 control room is really, really good. When I got there the first time playing the game, I remember running around in there for at least 5 minutes to look at all the lights, dials etc. My npc team mates even scolded me over it😅 You did a phenomenal job of bringing Pripyat/ Chernobyl NPP to life. And you sounded a lot better this week. I think Babushka's draft has worked just fine.
Haha, thanks! Babushka's recipes are the best :D And yea, HBO did a great job, even despite some simplifications for the sale of the story (which is totally okay for a TV drama) :-)
@@Chernobylite Well, from the sound of your voice she did an excellent job^^ Some of the things they changed or used were a bit much for me (like the radiation-absorbing baby), but the overall delivery was superb. Episodes 1 and 5 in particular. Episode one pulls no punches, as a viewer, you're immediately thrown into the thick of it. The Unit lies in ruins. Everybody is trying to figure what just happened, people are starting to keel over, and in the background you hear this very unnerving sound of a badly mangled, but still very much pissed off nuclear reactor. Episode 5 knocked it out of the park with the very well done, easy to understand for a layperson, explanation of how an RBMK works. Especially the red/blue signs were a very good tool to show the all-important balance in an RBMK. And yes, they had heavily simplify some things, or else a lot of people would have checked out.
Don't tell me that. You should see how many mistakes I do in the videoscripts 😂 The day after the publication I honestly sit in front of the monitor with a huge facepalm 🤣
Description of Legasov, his relations with the politics and nuclear physics opens many questions about what we are doing today. I can't avoid current politics in regards to nuclear power; green transition has failed with Germany being the worst example, majority of scientists don't say much in fear of losing jobs, position in the society, money, maybe even family. Sound familiar after seeing the video? USSR was extreme but we are even worse because nuclear isn't used despite Earth boiling from dumping CO2 into the atmosphere, 800.000 deaths every year only from coal, God knows how much worse will things get in the very near future. How can this be much different from the USSR? Yes, they had enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world several times over but didn't use them, politics were led by the Communist Party, although plans for building new nuclear plants were big compared to situation in the West in the last 50 years (since MSRE, decision to go on with oil instead). Post is already very long, please allow me write one more thing; this summer i red one of the first well written articles by top researcher in my country who was very critical of the green transition, lack of the nuclear reactors for low carbon emissions and finally fixing base load problem. He backed it up by easy to understand information and graphs, it is impossible to deny what was written. As expected responses were very few, cold, lacking arguments, it is as if people still believe in green transition without Lots of nuclear power.
Well, long story short, nuclear power is the cleanest and safest energy source so far - even including Chernobyl and other incidents. After all, coal-based power plant poison the air on a daily basis even though the technology has been developed for about 150 years (the nuclear tech for power supply for about 60 years).
Was legasov ever a party man or was he merely a man trying to do a job his was assigned to do to the best of his ability . In between Sundays I watch the video series that I haven’t seen yet. What format is the game for?
He was kind of both - he was a Party man, but a lot of people were. It's hard to put a 0-1 measure by our current morals to a person living in the USSR in those days. And what do you mean by "format" of the game? Sorry, I didn’t get that
@@Chernobylite I wouldn’t think less of someone for living in what amounts to societal norms. It was just what people did. You can’t fault someone for wanting to provide for there family and just have the best life they could, and also serve there country. There are still a few countries like that out there. I was just wondering cause there’s a scene in the miniseries where accuses Boris of being a party man. And it occurred to me that Logasov would most likely have been one as well to some extent. By format I was just wondering PC, Xbox, PlayStation?
I get it 😊 As for the game - all three, but we still are in the process of updating all the content for consoles. So currently, the PC is the newest version :-)
