Here's how I cook a whole frozen chicken in my Instant Pot!
Ingredients:
1 Whole Chicken with giblets removed (mine was 5lbs)
1-2 T. of cooking oil
1-2 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. smoked paprika
1/2 t. dried thyme
3 garlic cloves (optional)
1 lemon, sliced (optional)
Cook on Manual setting for 10 minutes per pound (mine was 5lbs so I cooked it for 50 minutes). Let NPR for at least 10 minutes. Optionally, broil 3-4 minutes per side on a foil lined pan to crisp up the skin. Strain and save broth from the pot for soup or other recipes! Enjoy!
I used my 6qt Instant Pot (IP-DUO60 7-in-1) in this video. You can find it on Amazon here: amzn.to/2ii6tIK (affiliate - thanks!)

This is my new favorite kitchen tool! Day 1 I was going to pressure cook a meat ru-vid.comUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and potato stew, decided I wouldn't eat it that night so I went with a slow cook so I could go to bed and put it away in the morning. I love that versatility! The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!

what a relief to have my questions answered in a concise manner without a history of the chicken and what you might use it for and endless adjustments of the camera etc. Your presentation was great - thank you so much! Also nice that you didn't have music to distract from your voice.

Looks really simple, thanks! One tip that might be useful during broiling-- cut the bottom of the chicken and flatten it out on the sheet. Then you could get even crisping with no flips. I believe this process is called "spatchcocking" when it's done prior to cooking. Search on that term for tips on best way to do it.
@jamesmorrison7847

Nice work! I like the added broiler step at the end. Crisping up the skin makes a huge difference in both appearance and taste. I would strain that broth, skim off most of the fat and put it in a deep saute pan to make a sauce for the chicken. I'd probably add tarragon, white wine and thicken it slightly with a corn starch slurry then whisk in a few pats of cold butter right at the end. Serve the sauce on the side for an upscale touch with little effort.

When I saw the size of your chicken in the pot, I though you were in trouble. lol If you have a big cut of meat, a trick to make sure it fits is to put it in the liner in your freezer until it's formed. Then it's good to go. My freezer's pretty full (and IP used alot), so I bought a plastic container the sane size as the liner and use that. Thanks for sharing your video!

How do you do this? How long do they take?
@Mytitus2journey
@Mytitus2journey Год назад
@@jbob1548 individual frozen chicken breasts take 25 minutes. If it was a block of thighs, legs, or breasts maybe 35 minutes and for the whole chicken I cook them for one hour. I do them all on high pressure meat setting. You need to add 1 cup of liquid (water/stock) and any seasoning you like. Don’t count ketchup/Barbecue sauce or something like that as your only liquid because it will burn and cause you IP to turn off. If you live at a high altitude I would add a little bit longer to my cooking time.

I would try spatchcocking the chicken before putting it under the broiler. That way it would lay more evenly and you wouldn't have to flip it. I'd also throw in a roughly chopped carrot, celery stalk, and an onion.

Hi Nili, love your videos! And just an idea, I have watched your videos and have noticed that you use the combo of salt, pepper, granulated onion and garlic, have you considered mixing these together at a ratio of your liking and then keep in a tight sealing container. And then you can add the other spices and herbs. Thought this might save you some time!

Thanks for the post! About to try this today. Probably goes without saying, but you can do this same delicious thing in a regular old pressure cooker. I inherited one from the 60s from my Mom and love that thing, but my Wife and Kids were terrified when I cooked with it so got an Instant Pot for Christmas. Getting pretty good at using it, but have to admit I miss the comforting hiss hiss hiss sound of my old stock pressure cooker I grew up with :-)

Even if you froze the chicken in it's original bag, all you'd have to do to get the bag off the frozen chicken is submerge the chicken in it's bag is a large pot of almost hot water. It'll defrost the chicken and bag just enough to loosen the bag from the chicken and get it off when you open it.

Always add lemon at the end. If lemon is present during cook time on the stove in a Crock-Pot in the oven or in a pressure cooker it's going to cook bitter. Zest is okay but use the juicy slices at the end and it will be a much better result.

I do pretty much what you do with prepping and freezing the chicken and pretty much cook it the same way but I'm not using a Instant Pot but a on the stove pressure cooker. These frozen chickens are my emergency company for dinner plan. This happens when groups of hungry boys and men drop in at the end of the pay period and are too broke for McDonalds:) I figure 1 chicken for every 2 guys. Fortunately I have enough pressure cookers for 8 guys or 4 chickens LOL I make spaetzle it's so easy and fast.

I've had my InstantPot for about 3 years now but I've only used it a few times. Always have trouble figuring out how to set it. Every video/you tube thing that I watch never has exactly the same one I have so the buttons are different. I notice you used the MANUAL button and I don't have that. I have a 12 lb,. frozen chicken that fit in mine and I did all spices, etc. Since my chicken's so big and according to your math, I think I set it for 2 hours on pressure cook. (10 mins per pound, 12 pounds=120 mins) I'm hoping I don't have an explosion or burnt chicken on my hands!!! Thanks for your simple video!

We did this it was amazing! After the chicken was done we put it on a baking sheet and tented it with foil and then started making the rice. We strained the liquid to get out the lemon seeds and lemon rind from the lemon slices we used when the chicken was cooking. We measured that leftover liquid and added rice to match. We usually make 2 cups rice to 2.5 cups water and there was almost exactly 2.5 cups liquid after the chicken was done so it was pretty easy. We also added carrots, celery, and onion with the rice. Everyone thought this was the best chicken dinner ever! So glad you mentioned about making it with rice.

I'm sure i miss you mention, but was the chicken completely frozen or it wasn't? Thank you for the video, i like how simple and quick your recipes are and you make the recipes for single people as well as a family like yours ❤

FYI ... letting you know ... The Android phone (player store) has 2 apps ... Instant Pot Smart Cooker & Best Instant Pot Recipes. Plus dozens of pressure cooker recipes apps ... etc. So if you can try out those Recipes and test them out first very much appreciative!

Always use 50% more time when cooking any frozen meat.

Good video. I've had my 6 qt for almost a year and have been meaning to ask a question about natural release. If you plan to use a natural release, do you have the "keep warm" button off? I've noticed that it can take a very long time for the pressure to drop if the keep warm light is on. No one has made mention of it in any of the videos I've watched.

Looks good apart from the anemic skin when it comes out of the instant pot. I guess if you are not eating the skin though it does not really matter. Looked better after the broiler time.

davva360 the skin is gross this way, it’s like slime jelly but the chicken is tender 🤷‍♀️

My Breville Fast Slow Pro did not like this recipe. The pressure would keep going up and down I suppose as icy cold liquid melted out of the frozen block of chicken. Both times we've made this the Breville shut off before coming to pressure so we had to restart the process (and guess at a slower cooking time). We have an instant pot too but it's the Mini. Maybe we'll have to try frozen game hens in the Mini.
