We were fortunate to work with our customer, Ian DeGraff, who approached us about heating his entire 1896 farmhouse located in Empire, MI, using our Ducoterra Sola Ray and REH Cove heaters. After a complete remodel down to the studs, the results are awesome!

Very good project renovating a 1896 house! Over the last 10 years I have essentially done the same we our 1910 two story house. Before the renovation if the central natural gas heater was shut off in the fall the old house uninhabitable in 20 minutes. High insulation is key for heating comfort! I dug out the basement for wiggle room for R35 insulated floor, R100 attic with R20 going to R30 walls. We now heat with thermal mass electric heating slabs, electric baseboards, a 95C solar wall heater and the cooking stove is still natural gas. I'd buy biogas if available. Cool electric radiant heating panels!

turn to different cooking sollution and your all set for saving gas and energy . add some solar panels and storage for redundant power use ( as payback for power to energy supliers decreases in the years ) , and your definatly set for low carbon footprint !

Can you have them all wired on one main panel also? Which I still like how they are on separate panels. It would be cool if you could still wire them to one main master panel. You said cut them to 58° damn that's cold here in the Carolinas for a heater. lol We run our heat on 68°-74° on 30°-50° winter days.
@marktweedie9691
@marktweedie9691 2 года назад
If you listen carefully, he says the thermostat is only set at 58F (or about 14.4 deg. C) when he’s out of the house, and he said he will probably turn it up a bit now that he’s back inside. I believe that the thermostats can be set about 2 deg. C (or 3 to 4F) lower for infrared panel heaters than for systems using convection heating of the air, for the same degree of comfort. He says he sets the bathroom thermostat at 65F (18.3 deg. C) when showering. It would be nice to hear what he sets it at when he’s indoors in the living room for the evening.

Are each of these heating greens needing a dedicated circuit to the units and what power source is going to the thermostat?
@HeatingGreen
@HeatingGreen 5 месяцев назад
Great question. No. A 20 amp 240 volt circuit can handle a load of 80% so up to 3840 watts can be put on this circuit or 1920 at 120 volt, where watts = amps x volts.

I thought these things heated surfaces not space. What does the thermostat measure as air temperature won't be the same as the perceived temperature will it? Is there a central control panel / app option rather than having to set each thermostat manually?
@HeatingGreen
@HeatingGreen Год назад
Hey Dave, Great questions! Infrared heats the mass in the room which in turns heat the air. It is a nominal difference between the temperature of the mass in the room and the air temperature. If you want to check the accuracy we recommend using a infrared laser thermometer to measure the temperature of the mass in the room around you versus the air temperature. Ecobees and Mysa thermostats are smart thermostats that have app options to be controlled remotely. Also most thermostats can be scheduled! Please feel free to reach out with any more questions. @HeatingGreen
@HeatingGreen 3 года назад
Hi Neil! Infrared heaters work best at ~8-10 feet from the ground as the heat falls on to the person or object in the room, heating them up. On the ceiling, they are also able to cover a range of space, rather than the floor only. It is a lot like rays from the sun! @@HeatingGreen I disagree , so long there's no large objects in front of the heaters the whole room I'll heat up fine if the heaters are large enough for the room coverage . I've had mine a few months now and they heat up all three of my bedrooms just fine. I've even used a room thermometer to check even heat distribution , so having them on the ceiling won't make any difference to me anyway perhaps the celling would be better for large buildings or offices .mine are 700w the room is roughly 5x5 meters so average size. I don't understand how thermostat can control room temp because IR panels heat up the surface but thermostat measure air temp?
@HeatingGreen
@HeatingGreen 2 года назад
Hi there, Great Question! As objects heat up from infrared heat, they radiate heat into the room. Air temperature is measured from the ambient air temperature sensor on the thermostat. So much like a forced air system, the IR panels heat the air as well as the other objects in the room, just in a more efficient way.
@n0spam911
@n0spam911 2 года назад
@@HeatingGreen fair enough but your IR panels are very tiny and and to get air heated of reflected surface should take a very long time and therefore very inefficient.
@HeatingGreen
@HeatingGreen 2 года назад
Hi Ugly stick, Fortunately, our IR panels are 20-50% more efficient than the antiquated forced air heater. Try turning off your furnace for 24 hours and time how long it takes to get to 70 degrees. On average that time would be 2+ hours. Ours can do it in significantly less time and cycle based on your heating needs which will save you a ton on your heating bills. Our infrared panels come in a variety of sizes so saying they are too small is incorrect. Please let us know if you have any further questions! Thanks, -HG Team

@@xeoph That's actually where they should be installed for best performance and efficiency. By installing alcove heaters towards the windows will keep the interior panes warm, preventing condensation to form during the coldest months of the year. I live in Quebec, Canada so we know a thing or two when it comes to heating. It's in fact where he installed the wall thermostats that are in the wrong location. You should never install thermostats on exterior walls, especially next to an exterior door. This gives inaccurate reading due to inadequacies in the buildings envelope, e.g. air leakage due to poor air sealing, lower insulation values, thermal bridging, etc. along with temperature swings as the door will never be as air tight as a well sealed wall system. The weatherstripping issues and the less R-Value a door has vs an exterior wall, will make the thermostat run more frequently.
