Whorls on Horses What They Mean (in my Experience) Part 2 

Now I'm really hooked. Since the first session, I've pulled pictures of some of my really good, and some discarded, and some nasty temperament but horses that let me win, rope horses and cutters trying to see where the whorl placement was. Wish you'd told me this 60 years ago. *LOL*

This is so interesting to learn about! I have a filly that was born 2 weeks ago that has 3 whirls that form a triangle with the point between her eyes and the other 2 higher, closer to the temples. Mom is AQHA, dad is Andalusian. She looks very fancy and is bold, curious, and smart, but is super temperamental about being touched on her belly and legs. She also sticks her tongue out of the side of her mouth a lot. I’m very curious about how she is going to turn out. Now you have me looking at all my horses whirls and analyzing them! Thanks for bringing such insightful and original content! 😊

Kudos! Most comprehensive discussion on whorls I have ever heard. I take head shape in conjunction with whorls but you have had a lot more colts under you than me.

Another great video Brett. I’d love to see a video on and hear your thoughts about how much land do you need for a horse. And constant stabling versus being turned out all the time. I’d like to hear your thoughts and perspective on this. Keep up the good work on these excellent videos.

I saw a super neat whorl on a sale horse last weekend. 2 vertical whorls but they were really far apart, and the hair was growing toward each whorl. I got a pic of his head if you want to see it.

I love this one. Thank you. I am riding a mare. She has 3 whorls on her firehead. In leverage with her eyes two, next to eachother. The right is a little bigger than the left. And one obove of them, just underneath her forelock. And she has two whorls at her neck each side one in differente places. She is very talented and beautiful but very impulsive, sensitive and easily scattered. Being a consistence rider with a low pulsrate helps ... mostly ...like you explained. Thx a lot

I have a z swirl horse, the only thing that might be different is that he is not grumpy with people. However, He’s really only comfortable with me being in his space, other people he just gets all tight with. He does grind his teeth at other horses which is annoying but only in the pasture. Have to do the same stretch before you get on him and have to be simple and quiet when you do get on him for about 3 minutes. So I can see the bear thing. 😅 He’s never really fought me on much. He has a chest wheat that goes only almost 1/2 way up his neck and ends with a wind pipe swirl 🤷‍♀️ thanks for the video, I’ve been trying to make him into a all around horse and it shakes his confidence everytime I switch to something different. So I’ll just try him as a heel horse because he’s incredibly cowy and will follow one anywhere. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s giving me more insight to what he might need.

Didn't know I needed that info? Thanks for the thought provoking subject. I've always liked whorls and understood some people seek them and make buying decisions based on location. I've got lots of horses to work with and will assess them accordingly for fun. Makes me wonder about other possibilities in conformation color and markings and traits I've overlooked that may have deeper understanding. Thanks as always.

I have a filly with just one whorl straight between her eyes so she should be straightforward, but she is so grumpy and spicey. I wonder if it is because she has a puzzle coat.

It is fun learning what you have learned over the years. Some of mine goes with yours but not all of it. We have some new mares in our broodmare band and their foals are not for sale until I find out how they will train up and whether the mare gets to stay in our program. One produced a foal with the strangest whorl pattern I have ever seen. I sent a picture to you. I don't remember if I included one of his neck with a very long whorl just off the crest. He will be the most interesting to work! We raise Morgan horses and I know that some of the bloodlines are much harder to work than others. All of the worst of those horses are long gone but I would have loved to look at the whorls on those horses. I do lean toward certain bloodlines because of the superior disposition, along with conformation and work ethic. Now I will start comparing the whorl patterns, too! How do you know if whorls are the cause of all the bad luck or if it's just regular, personal bad luck unrelated to whorls?

I never worried to much about whorls ,other than use them for identification. Just take the horse as he is and work with it.

I quickly checked this gelding and found no whorls, he was suspicious what I was quickly wanting as he's boarded next to the jobsite.. checking again today

Never rode a Hancock I really liked (probably rode 40+), they can turn out ok, but never rode one that really excelled at anything. Some were built very well and looked like they should be athletes but just never had the softness to get it done. People's affection for them has always boggled mind, mind you none of these people had any need or desire for an actual cowhorse or the ability to ride and handle one.
