What are the factors which create the more textured and rich tone of a 16 hole chromatic, versus a 12 hole chromatic?

Many factors combine including mass of comb itself, greater mass and size of reedplate which can be thought of as a large non-moveable reed, the harmonics from the additional reeds, and expanded resonance chamber created by the cast aluminum covers spanning 16 holes.
