What are the factors which create the more textured and rich tone of a 16 hole chromatic, versus a 12 hole chromatic?
A followup video to yesterdays comparison of a 16 hole Seydel Symphony ALU 16 holer, to Seydel Symphony 48 orchestra tuned, to Seydel Symphony 48 C Solo tuned (see YoutTube video entitled: "Which Gives Best Tone 16 hole or 12 Seydel Symphony Kettlewell Chromatic Harmonica"
Many factors combine including mass of comb itself, greater mass and size of reedplate which can be thought of as a large non-moveable reed, the harmonics from the additional reeds, and expanded resonance chamber created by the cast aluminum covers spanning 16 holes.
For your consideration, your thoughts?

Thank you for nice videos. Where can I found the slider mouthpiece? Can we put the slider on a 12 holes like « De luxe Steel » ?

How beneficial it would be if some some chromatic playing was incorporated.,

Hello David, Since you have demonstrated the 16hole vs 12hole chromatics, I wonder which 16 holes you would recommend, and if you would recommend them at all for a beginner level player? Also, when do you think should one switch to a higher level harmonica? (I currently play an Easttop Kingdream)

a beginner will be well served with the Easttop EAP 16 holer, inexpensive and airtight. Also Suzuki SCX. Pro instruments Seydel Saxony and Symphony models, and Suzuki Fabulous. You are welcome to speak with me, send a message using contact link on mastersofharmonica.com

My goal is to learn Bach Cello Suite 1. I have a music background, would you recommend a 16 hole? I have a 12 hole already. Thank you again for your knowledge!

Could you make any recommendations for a chromatic harmonica for classical music, but one that doesn't need microphone/reverb amplification. Are there any chromatic horns on the market that have natural violin/viola volume unamplified?

Personally, I'd get a Suzuki Chromatix 64 (16 holer) and airtighten it. Inexpensive and fine tone, pro. Understand much of tone quality and timbre comes from the player's use of hands and embouchure.

David, hi… What microphone setup are you using there ?

Hi Douglas, I used to play an Ultimate '58 (red) w. volume knob from Greg Heumann as Toots played, from BLOWSMEAWAY.COM, but this one is a bit different the Bulletini with volume control from same fellow. Greg worked on a team handling sound for Toots, so nuff said..

I own a Symphony. It feels great in my hands, and it has a great sound throughout. But. A big BUT. The slide spring breaks every few months! Do you have any suggestions?

This will not be easy...get the magnetic button, put it on your slide and get a magnet set from the factory. Then use the combination of spring and magnetic. I would also suggest you start using slide oil properly to lubricate the slide, might help. Or keep a good supply of springs on hand for repairs.

I bought a Suzuki Chromatix (16 hole) but doesn't have a 'mouth-peice SLIDER'... do they make it easier to play single notes ? (I'm a guitarist/pianist, so harps are all new to me right now). Also, will a Kettlewell fit my harp ?

Yes. Sliders are only available from David Kettlewell personally, who hand makes each one. Reach out to him on Facebook, or the Love Of Chromatic Harmonica Facebook Group, or his website contact link at MASTERSOFHARMONICA.COM...use the manual email method
