OMEGA has been left behind in the steel sports watch market in recent times! ROLEX and TUDOR have been owning that space, and in this video, I explain why. I also offer you my predictions for 2024, and how I hope things are about to change! #omega #rolex #omegawatches #luxurywatch

I’ve recently got into watches and Omega specifically. I went neo-vintage as I love the 300m tool aesthetic of the late 90s / early 2000s. I think a lot of us hope Omega brings back this look in full and midsize versions, albeit following Tudor’s retro styling approach with the BB58 & 54. Great content by the way!

Thank you, and I do very much agree that neo-vintage Omega are the best of everything. Even the movements are solid and accurate, even before Omega went in-house and co-axial.

I actually like the new wave dial better than the old ones. I also like the look of the speedmaster overall. Perhaps they could make it a bit smaller, 40mm and slim it down a bit, do some refining on the bracelet. Maybe increase the power reserve on the movement. My main complaint is with the bezel action. There is a ton of room for refinement there. Many microbrands at a fraction of the price have a much better bezel action than the Omegas.
@TheRandomWatchDude
@TheRandomWatchDude 7 месяцев назад
Bezel action is something I think I agree that Omega has no excuses for not getting it a lot more precise and tactile. Great that you're enjoying the Seamaster. I think they changed the wave pattern as they couldn't laser engrave the old style, so this newer pattern is easier to manufacture.
@driller7714

I don’t think Omega has too many watches declinations for each of their watches. It simply allows people to more finely select the model they like. I believe that Omega should announce their new watches just a month before these are available at all boutiques and ADs. The huge release delays are extremely bad as by the time the watches are available at retail people have either lost interest or bought something else.

I've seen a ton of reviews that complain about Omega having so many models and variants that it tends to dilute it's icons. I'll push back a bit on that. If you look at the top brands other than AP, Rolex, VC and Patek. All the other brands in the top ten have a wide catalogue similar to Omega. Since most of the other companies don't sell at the same price point they have to compete in units. Nobody tells Bmw to stop making so many variants and their many models haven't affected their brand perception. I also think some of the improvements we would like to see on the 300m would come at a price we don't want to pay. Example: slimmer case 12mm or less smaller case but still legible, keep METAS (redesign the bracelet *design is too old*). Do all these things but don't change the price. We've seen the price hike on the remodeled IWC Ingenieur. Which nobody has been pleased with. Conversely we can't expect all these changes at the same time with the same price. Lastly I think they should keep the exposed case back. Look they have Rolex copying them with the Daytona. Gotta take the small wins lol.

Omega have totally lost their way and I agree with all your points wholeheartedly bar one. I don't think the pizza dial with sword hands is coming back. It's become a generic look used on CWC divers and some other military inspired watch brands. The skeleton hands, for better or worse, has become the Diver 300m signature look.
@Joe-xo3xy
@Joe-xo3xy 7 месяцев назад
@The Random Watch Dude-hey there, i was thinking about the triangular lume and sword hands; I do not think Omega will allow it take over the current range because that means losing the fancy, shiny, gold plated lume markers and in fact, it looks odd that after all these years, they will cut off the current style. Therefore, we may see it have a another sub category like the shark tooth sandwich dial SMP's. I cannot believe another sub category of the SMP may come into life, quite worrying for the brand. Even Omega will be disturbed by it but I feel it is inevitable just because of the pressure from the enthusiasts. Therefore, we are more likely to see that Bond style SMP you have in your video. If it is going to be it, they better go the entire mile and not half arse it. I will also advise you that if you enjoy collecting and keeping history which your children or who ever inherits your watches will enjoy, then the current green SMP with a green or black rubber strap fits the bill for a military inspired SMP, it has some lineage. I do not think $5000 is too much to ask for, the technology omega has is in their mechanicals is so forward thinking, they have not been able to do anything exciting to the mechanics all this time.
@TheRandomWatchDude
@TheRandomWatchDude 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree entirely that the pizza lume dial is a stretch with their current catalogue and im more inclined to think they'll go with that potentially as a limited edition, but still update the wave dial to that 2022 Bond celebration-type dial. You know what - I was at the airport in September and could have bought that green dial Seamaster on the bracelet, for retail less 15% tax! I tried it on, but it didn't sing to me, so I passed on it! You probably think that's crazy!!
@Joe-xo3xy
@Joe-xo3xy 7 месяцев назад
@@TheRandomWatchDude Hi there, yes, I think the pizza slice dial variant will end up some where as a limited edition/run or sub category which will be left abandoned like the sandwich dial variants that were released yeas ago, do you remember them? They were supposed to give enthusiasts something very Omega and no one has spoken about it ever since. As for you not gravitating towards the green SMP, totally understandable. I genuinely hated this current model line . However, being a heavy tool watch/dive watch enthusiast, I eventually got it or could relate more to the model after a while. I saw the grey dial Nekton edition, it was too tool watch like and playful at the same time. However, the green edition bridged the gap between the normal releases and the nekton edition, which it became more military like, thanks to the shade of green used. This current line was such a deviation from the modern lineage in the sense that they became too rough and rugged. Anyways, lets wait and see, I’ll drop you a few comments if you make a video on the new releases, when they do come out. I am going to watch the Hodinkee special on reference points on the Omega Seamaster.

Hi there, everyone has been pressing to bring out the 300m mil Seamster style. However, we are yet to receive one. This may be the year or may be not. Omega has really doubled down on this circular marker style SMP. I am with you on the older SMP with sword hands, have you tried sourcing one. I really thought the recent SMP has some very funny over exaggerated sword hands, a step in the right direction from the plunger style/pencil hour hand on the preceding SMP's. i will tell you what though, the recent green SMP with green rubber strap really gives me a whimsical feel for the military SMP, I think it will be a future classic, in my eyes anyways. Lets wait and see, they may bring out a separate line as they did with the broad arrow models. My best recent SMP is unattainable and that is the blue bond with a classic style wave dial, sword hands and white loli pop second hand.
@TheRandomWatchDude
@TheRandomWatchDude 7 месяцев назад
I put myself on the list to get that new Bond celebration SMP, but apparently they are produced in such small numbers. I wonder if that could be the blue print for the next standard SMP? Omega were just testing the interest before they release it as a standard? Yes I have the sword hand black SM. Got it on right now!
@Joe-xo3xy
@Joe-xo3xy 7 месяцев назад
@@TheRandomWatchDude first off, do not make me jealous regarding your SMP, I am waiting to get one, very soon it will be done. Second off, nice to hear from you. That blue bond smp just killed my mood the minute I discovered it and the second minute I found out they were at 5 digits. The watch market some times can be very brutal. Then again, it has take me in some very great directions where I discover stuff that no one is looking very hard at. You may be right regarding the blue bond as the blue print for the next gen. However, knowing the swiss, they stay true to tradition and do not copy a predecessor on a one for one basis. Therefore, if your prediction should happen, which is not so far fetches, expect something that you really love about that blue bond to be taken out when the normal catalogue models get released. It may be the white loli pop taken off, may be a case back being changed, may be that blue tone will not be used and there will be a really annoying blue. Anyways, some excitement in the near future, for sure. stay well.

I’m an Omega fan too and the last few years have been a total disaster for the brand. It’s like they shut down the R and D department four years ago 🤦🏻‍♂️ they don’t mind putting the prices up though 🤦🏻‍♂️ they desperately need to update half their catalogue and bin the other half. Thick big watches out of date movements unbelievably bad bezel action on all their divers and awful bracelets 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think I could run Omega better myself than the people running it into the ground at the moment. It’s easy people want the SMP to go back to a 41mm and slim down to 12mm thick case and lose the shocking skeleton hands. Sword hands are obviously better as are fine waves on the dial. People expect a bezel action to be snappy and precise which it’s definitely not at the moment. People want a refined bracelet that tappers and they couldn’t give a toss about a wetsuit extension at the cost of a big ugly clasp that 1% of people might ever use. Finally if you want to ramp up prices to match Rolex you need to ramp up quality to match Rolex first.
