I think bikes made with DA 7800 & 7900 (I like the fatter hoods) are the absolute sweet spot for performance and design. I'll be riding my 2011 Giant SL-0 & SL-1 until I die.
I'm still rocking 26" wheels on my MTB's... amazingly they didn't stop working when the marketing dept's re-invented the wheel and it all went 27.5. :) Love seeing these older bikes springing back into life with hardly any effort, they just work. Not for the city wankas but for the rest perfectly fine.
Avanti road bikes got better in the 2000s, the Corsa was legit, the Carbino was a step up in the 2000s, the best Avanti was the Quantum Team and Cadent Team that came out in 2008. The local bike shop owner had the Carbino Team stolen around 2007 and then got a Quantum Team for 2008 for $12k. A guy I know did the lake Taupo four laps on the Corsa unassisted in 2008. The bike shop owner sold his Quantum Team in 2009 to Ron who then did another four laps of Taupo in 2009 then eight laps in 2010 1250 kilometers in 68 hours. Race Across America emailed him that he'd qualified for RAAM. So he mortgaged his house for $40k and did RAAM in 2011 on the Quantum Team. 4800 kilometers in 11 days 13 hours and 36 minutes. Then Avanti brought out the Corsa DR and Corsa SL in I think 2016 which I think was a step down but still better than today's bikes. The DR had a aero seat post instead of the 27.2 mm seat post and the SL I think had the under bottom bracket rear brake. Both were better than the current bikes but I think the Quantum Team and Cadent Team from 2008 to 2015 was the best. I saw a Quantum Team for sale for $1100 recently external cables and all.
My main bike is Ultegra DI2 10s (Madone) with a beautiful Absolute Black Chainring and direct mount Dura Ace calipers which I got on sale for 100 USD each brand new. Wirh my carbon wheels that thing is crazy light and rides faster than the newer Emonda I had although that was a good bike.
I'm done with racing. Done with sponsorships, freebies and sweet deals on parts ... Also, I don't care about being as fast as technically possible anymore. For some reason, I started using my 90's machines more often than not. Currently using 8sp dura ace on a Columbus ELOS tubed frame. A new chain and two sram cassettes (to build one with the cogs I want) cost me 150 dollars. It feels like winning. Last year, an 11 speed campy cassette cost me close to 300 if I remember correctly...that was disgusting. Older bikes are better than ever.
My main bike is a rim brake Jamis that has 10 seed sram red. On the climbs it is great, really just fantastic but to be honest on flat road it does cost a few watts but Rim brake is the only way to go
Nice bike! i like the wheels, look stiff and light for alu! If you push power it doesn't matter if you got this machine or some latest disc brake bicycle. You will be fast up the hill, flats, etc.
Got my first road bike in 1997. NEVER had a blow out or any issues from these ‘cosmetic age cracks’ from using old tires. I’ve ridden over 450 000km. My opinion is based on 26 years of road experience. I’ve never heard of a tire blowing out from cosmetic age cracks either.
hey DR, i am trying my best to follow your protocols but when i work out with intensity and put out a good sweat i just feel like shit after for like 2 days, super low mood and sleepy. can't even get a hard on. what do you think?
Today I pound town’s Natasha so hard with my hard AF girth she thought her period came early. Turns out it was just cervical trauma. 💕 You ain’t doing my protocols bro ❤️😸🫶🏻 You be 🧢’n. I’m 46 next month and smashing out PR’s in power, strength and 5k times this year.
I have alot of 11spd Ultegra Rim and Disc groups to sell. Plus 11spd 105 Rim and Disc and some Dura ace 11 spd rim(no Disc). A little bit of Di2 Rim aswell. It's new and in boxes. A few sets of wheels In Carbon too.....Looking to sell all together!!! No one wants 11spd Rim groups anymore!😢😢😢 Can put on a palet and ship world wide from Italy.
