In all seriousness, the videos where Taylor walks us through the specific details of why some old BMW (or any car) brings him joy are the best. This is why I love the AA channels and am bored with "I bought a crashed Pagani and am rebuilding it in 24 hours for no reason" videos. These attainable cars with history and personality and valved exhausts are so cool and have inspired me to work on cars and make them my own.

Hi Alex and Taylor , An another E39 Touring enthousiaste here , a cheap and good "Big" brake upgrade kit is the 4 pistons brembo from the E38 730. With 325mm discs from M3 E46, around a 1.000€ euros for the complet set. That would get the job done anyways loving Big bertha enjoying the series , Hope to see more of this magnificent brick Big love from Paris

You should definitely sprchrg it. There's a guy here in Latvia who got an e36 vith a v8, he eventually went drifting with it and to compete in a semi-pro class he used exactly the charger you were talking about. Made 450hp on a stock engine internals and ecu, just with a help of proper remaping. Now he's fitting amg supercharger but that's a much bigger struggle. So go on. Do it!

My 2001 e39 530d was the best car I have ever owned. Period! If I could face the stress I would have another one in a heartbeat, however I'm currently nursing another v8 supercharged monster. A 2008 L322 Range Rover and that keeps me up nights.

What a machine ! Proud owner of an E39 touring myself, I will search parts to make it look like Taylor's. The only part that I will never have is the EGGPLANT lether interior (sorry I'm French), but once again great car !

I used to have that colour interior in my old BMW. I referred to it as ‘Man Purple’ or ‘Murple’ for short.

Never been a huge fan of BMW, but i love the one Taylor got. The paint, the interior and the leather seat colors are just what i like. Yes, put a supercharger on it, add 50-60 bhp and buttloads more torque xD Looking forward to the next video :D

BMW late 90's early 00's were killing the competition. That was the peak BMW period imo, not for performance obviously but for everything else. E39's, E38's and E46's brilliant cars. The super special Z8 as well. Tomorrow Never Dies. The first Transporter film.

Keep us posted on the supercharger build. I've looked at this for my E38 740. I had hit a wall as I wanted to use the original ECU. Also, your quite correct on the lack of tourings on the road. Throughout my driving career, I've owned a fair share of e39's, mostly Tourings and most I still have. My first one is a 1997 528 Touring factory Manual in Calypso Red with beige guts, It's fully loaded, Nav, DSP, Phone, 16 way comforts + heated, rear shades, xenons and so on, with the original bill of sale and a letter to the original owner with their chosen specification. I will never part ways with it. It's currently a rolling shell as it'll be getting a ground up resto. I have lots of fond memories with it. I have a battered old 2001 525d Touring Auto that I bought in 2017 for £800 off a friend. I've over 5 years of trouble free motoring. I too own a 540 Touring, mines an Auto. It's a 2002, Toledo Blue with beige guts. The Toledo Blue has a lovely red/velvet hue to it. It's full spec too with, Nav, phone, DSP, comfort heated seats with massage, glass roof, Xenons and lecci folding mirrors to name a few. My 740 is a 1999 in Cosmos Black with Black guts, same spec in terms of options as the 540. None of my BM's makes the grade as a daily, they're just too old. I do 15k a year, so I needed something sensible. That lead to buying a 300c SRT-Design with the Mercedes diesel V6. Only on a good day do I manage to get 24mpg average!!! Also that mercedes V6 is the more horrific thing I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with, but the rest of the car, I adore. And thats lead to to buying another daily. This time, in the shape of a Volvo! My BM's are weekend summer toys, when they work!!!

I also have a Prefacelift aspensilver E39 540i touring but I have cinnamon interior and and auto box (soon to be swapped). Honestly the best car I’ve ever owned. I can’t imagine ever selling it. Hopefully I can bring it to shedfest next year. Genuinely one of the best channels on the tube boys. I look forward to the podcast every week.

Great to see the guys enjoy that car so much! I also have a pre-facelift 540iT that I'm working on (albeit an automatic). I did drive it daily for a while, until it started smoking and occasionally stalling. By now, I've replaced all vacuum hoses, coolant hoses and intake gaskets. Should be back on the road any day now! I might get an MOT problem because of an exhaust leak, but I'm reluctant to fix that because of the sound it makes =)

My dad has a E39 530d touring. Owned since new (remember the many trips to the dealer for test drives and ordering it), he sill has it and when he wants rid, I'll be buying it of of him. It's probably the best model (E39) that BMW have ever made and will ever make.

I absolutely adore my 2008 x6 50i, I put a stage 1 on it, 507 hp, my daily driver. Just take care and change oil under 10k km and it lasts and purrs. Sound with valves open is incredible. I contemplated doing a straight with pops and bangs but opted not to. I have my two Ktms with akrapovics for it )

Valve exaust on your daily is the best thing u can do I have one on my v6 Camry and it just puts a smile on my face everytime

I use my e39 540i manual as my daily here in Cape Town and love every second of it. Almost always take the long way home

Had the same issue you described on the brakes and it was the breaking system causing it, but suspension arms and bushes

My mate regrets selling his e39 530d touring. That had everything cream and wood interior and was a Manual too !! Such nices cars and lovely to sit in !

Had a glacier green 540i touring 2001 m62tu auto for 6 years ! Bought for £7500 100k miles in 2008. Those were the days ! Mega spec double glazing , hydraulic tailgate , motorola v50 in the armrest ....the dogs danglies , sold it for 545i touring that smoked on idle (guide bushes ) then a 530i e61 touring . Neither beat that e39. Thst engine is an aristocrat , high speed starter , wall of torque. Lovely .

This generation of BMW was a sweet spot. I still daily an 03 330d Sport Touring (6 speed manual). They look right and drive right.

Yess Taylor supercharge it! That's mental that you can get a supercharger and fitting kit for about a grand. I'd be interested in doing this to my pre facelift e38 740i, so would be nice to see you do it first 😉

That Aubergine interior with this trim is fabulous, I love it. Only downside on special interiors like this is good luck finding replacement bits if needed. I have California Anthracite / Snake upholstery (H4AT) with sport seats on my e46 compact. You can barely find pictures online. I’ve been looking for a passenger seat for two years now…

I daily drive my e39 touring, it’s my workhorse and is a cracking car. I also have a 540 manual saloon that I’m putting a 4.6is engine in. Probably won’t ever top them with anything else!

Tourings look better than the saloons, but this looks so much better. Always loved the bigger bore on the m sport exhausts, so this Rich’s fabrications is beautifully in keeping. Very jealous of this - and if it’s good enough for Jay Kay to stop and have a chat about, that says it all! More please!! And in the sun so we can see the paint!

I have an E39 M5 (was the high mileage, rusty blue one at shedfest). Would happily make the trip across from Northern Ireland again if you fancied drag racing or attempting a lap time somewhere against your 540i post supercharger. It goes away for restoration in September!

i have a E39 530D estate that i use everyday and its stage 1. its auto and it surprises alot of people off the lights! its just a sleeper

In Australia, more specifically, my garage is an E39, Diamond-Shwartz sedan with the 4.4 supercharged on Bilsteins, 19's, big brakes, stainless tuned exhaust and many noises. It's better than the wagon.

I had an auto one when I was about 28 😂 used to be part of a car swap group. In sport mode I would be getting around 6-8mpg !!! driving like miss daisy the best I could get was around 26mpg .It definitely wasn’t a daily driver but was super fun

When it comes to brakes, bring your car to Martin Reyland in Redditch or BG developments in Bromsgrove. They will sort you out with something to spec and the nicest people… plus you can drive down the road to mine and fix some of my cars
