@@pinehawk9600 I like Covenant, but not the fact, that David created the Xenomorphs. But I still want a sequel to close the gap between Covenant and Alien. Imo David did not really create them. He just enhanced the existing things he found
I think we supposed to "Think" it was continuing the Covenant storyline--which ended with a sequel-bait cliffhanger. But this will be a standalone movie between Alien and Aliens.
I am also a freak who finds something to enjoy in every Alien movie, that universe just appeals to me on a level I can't explain. Nice to know I'm not alone.
I am a super huge fan of the whole franchise, all but Alien Resurrection. There were some really cool parts to that movie but I was turned off by the cheese. All the crappy comedy was so forced and out of place, it really changed the whole atmosphere of the movie.
if you want actual ST with your Alien- universe, ya just have to watch Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, again cuz Prometheus burrows about 25% of the ST5's character plots in the 1st act of the movie and then 30% for the story arch at the 3rd act. Mr. Shatner was ahead of his time.
He didn't direct Don't Breath 2. He wrote and produced it. Same for the TCM 2022 reboot. The directors and acting killed those movies. Fede KNOWS how to shoot a movie and set a tone. Man's going to kill it; the only thing I'm iffy about is there's like 8 ppl casted so I'm not psyched for a low body count.
Am I the only one getting Alien:Isolation vibes from this trailer? Can't really put my finger on it but I can see so many familiarities. That or A:I PTSD...
Nope not just you. This def feels like Alien Isolation played a role in inspiring it. Which if done right is a major bonus as Isolation was one of the best alien media we got in the last few years.
@@dewey70I first thought that was a reference to Alien 3 with the flare stuff. This movie seems to take iconic elements from all previus films, The Bald crew member def feels like a callback to that.. But yeah i can see that too.
“Fear of the unknown” is what initially drove the narrative of the Alien movies. Now the “fear of the unknown” is the fear of the fans not knowing if it’s going to be good, but praying that it is.
I was honestly worried but then I heard that Fede Alvarez is directing and I’m honestly very happy since I love his work. The teaser trailer was well done and I’m excited to see this movie
Yes but Disney owns the franchise. DISNEY absolutely can not help itself. They insist on brow beating their audience with DEI messaging at every possible opportunity. I would love to see a good alien movie added to the franchise.. but with Disney at the helm, I am not holding my breath.
Romulus has a clever title like Prometheus. Ancient mythology, Romulus was a twin that fed on the milk of a she wolf, Romulus became the 1st king of Rome. Its a clue, this film is hinting a queen alien (tons of facehuggers in the trailer gives it away as well) and the ship ROMULUS is feeding off of the queen, there using her to produce Bio-Weapons to sell in deep space to anyone who wants to purchase them. ROMULUS focuses on duality, the number 2. its the 1st in the franchise where 2 ships play a role ROMULUS and REMUS, in greek mythology ROMULUS and REMUS where twins feeding off of the she-wolf, the film bridges 2 films, ALIEN > ALIENS. There will be 2 synthetics in the film not the usual 1, one is an obvious synthetic the other a mystery. ROMULUS also has a twist, it is 2 films, and at a point in the film it shifts into film 2. A source i know who has seen it, says its mind-blowing, very off the grid.
I’m cautiously optimistic as well. The trailer gets the vibe right. It looks like the set design is a nice mix of Alien and Aliens, which felt lacking in later films including the prequels. And I had low expectations when I went in to see the Evil Dead remake, and was blown away. Alvarez knew what made the original Evil Dead so great and ramped it up, put his own spin on it and knew not to rely on cheap nostalgia or franchise-baiting.
I respect that he's raw and dark with his movies. What he did with Evil Dead made me a fan of the franchise. I didn't grow up watching the campy original ones. I love the tone and overall switch he made. I really love how he's shot this movie so far; it looks dark, and I'm hoping it's brutal too.
@@blainmoney6948 As someone who allows Ash Williams to live rent-free in his head I still love seeing how gnarly Evil Dead can be untethered from the Three Stooges-style goofiness and the force of Bruce Campbell's charisma. It shouldn't work and yet it does.
@@vampricramen couldn't have said it better. It's a tone switch tha really had no business landing so well. I can understand of someone didn't like it but I think it's shot really well and went hard when it needed to
Cautious optimism here too. The horror aspects always been there obviously, but this potentially looks a bit more raw. And some might call it derivative, but going back to what made the first two great doesn't seem like a bad idea. Promethius and covenant didn't work for me because it felt like two different stories/vibes awkwardly mashed together. (Plus all the immersion breaking character stupidity.)
This doesn't end here, Director Noah Hawley is helming the ALIEN tv series, and he spoke to Scott into how clearing many things in the franchise, like the Space Jockeys being separate from the Engineers, the Aliens NOT being a creation of neither David nor anyone, and being ancient as a product of Millions of years of evolution. The Black Goo and the creatures made from it are Aberrations derived from Xenomorph DNA but are not Xenomorphs, nor predate the Xenomorphs as said before. Ridley Scott loved the ideas as well as Disney since they didn't like Scott's approach with his last movies and they demanded something more connected to the original 3 films.
Will they explain the derelict, what was the pilot's agenda, where did the creature come from, was there an ancient war in space against the Xenomorphs? I suspect the Jockey pilot somehow contained an infestation and was tasked to deliver the specimens to a different planet. For the purpose to keep them isolated from organic life. But one of the eggs breached from containment, so the pilot became a victim of the facehugger.
@@SergeiKraven That is something we will have to wait and see in the ALIEN TV series by Noah Hawley. My guess, is that the Space Jockeys discovered the eggs, as in the Origin of ALIEN by creator Dan O'Bannon. Perhaps even the Engineers were work drones created by the Space Jockeys only to have the Engineers rebel against the SJs, and steal samples like an egg and even the Black Goo. Remember that these creatures (Space Jockeys and the Xenomorphs) are alien species, in the sense of being strange, so the motives of the Space Jockeys could all be speculated till the series decides to explain. Also, let's remember that O'Bannon was influenced by H.P. Lovecraft, and as such the Xenomorphs could represent a species that no one was meant to discover. O'Bannon had them extinct by a global catastrophe in their home planet only being survived by their eggs. I'm sure that as the series comes out, we may have many questions but also many answers and I hope all fans can enjoy it instead of being divided.
@@EternalRoman I enjoyed Prometheus, not the conclusion of the pilot being a suit. I'm just really curious about that pilot as described from Alien. An alien life form, not a humanoid engineer, because its presence is unsettling and strange. We all know it's an ancient civilization, as Ridley said. He also believes the eggs were in a stasis field to be dropped as bombs on other planets that had hostile organisms. What do you think about David possibly reviving the Alien pilot. But where are the others? Ridley described them as a civilization, okay so they must have their own home planet. Was it invaded, or did they just die out, because of the engineers? Do you think we'll see the derelict in the new Alien movie?
@@SergeiKraven See that's the issue with Scott's idea in PROMETHEUS and COVENANT and their flaw. He made the universe as a short as a walk to the corner store. No seeing the Space Jockeys doesn't mean that they are all dead. The Universe is vast and gigantic and that is what ALIEN creator and writer, the Late Dan O'Bannon made his original story to be. The Xenomorphs, the Space Jockeys, all ancient alien species, but also, he wrote to be the ultimate alien environment, LV - 426 an alien world. The title ALIEN didn't just mean the Xenomorphs, it meant everything, since O'Bannon wanted to touch on every phobia he could, because humans fear the unknown, and what is the most unknown as space? What lies in the dark corners of the vast void? What ancient horrors await to the human race barely leaving their tiny speck of a planet? That was not Ridley Scott, that was Dan O'Bannon, Scott did quite the contrary with his last films. But now we have a chance to at least find balance, where Scott's last two films can at least be of something more than the flops they were and add to ALIEN instead of trying to retcon what the Creator of ALIEN had come up with originally.
@@EternalRoman You have some very interesting points. I actually read something from an article that suggested what you had mentioned. The movie Alien is not just related to the Xenomorphs, according to an article. To me that sounds very interesting, as they could evolve the franchise to a different direction I wouldn't mind that whatsoever. We already have so many movies about the Xenomorph, so why not give it a rest. And explore on other deadly species. Also, I found something interesting that you might have read or not. I'll copy and paste it to the next following comment.
I rly hope we will finally get a good alien movie again. In my opinion Covenant was quite bad. I wanted to like the film but hell was this crew braindead. Worst part was when David showed the captain the egg and aked him to look closer, AFTER he told him that he perfected this deadly weapon.
Covenant made me like Prometheus more. I expected it to be better but it was WORSE!! How about the landing party not wearing any helmets!!?? No matter what the scanners say you still would wear protective gear to prevent what happened. But I suspect they wrote it that way just so the crew could be infected with the spores.
@@jcaashby3 how long do they need to wear helmets before they’re allowed to take them off when every single sign points to them being able to take them off? There’s also zero evidence that helmets would be able to stop the weapon.
@@ExpertContrarian buddy.... they never even put their protective suits on in the first place. Suits that were on the landing ship. So what of the air is breathable. There are places on earth that there air is breathable but you can still get sick of your not from that area/ continent. So landing on an alien planet any competent writer would have had them wearing gear as a precaution. If the spores got inside... they at least wore protection. But the script called for them to get infected so... nobody wore gear. Even in Prometheus... the previous movie they wore gear even though the air was breathable inside the structure. They were still reluctant to remove their helmets!
I mean..it is still a self contained story and "spinoff" as u called it. Just because tineline wise it takes place between alien and aliens doesnt mean its necessarily connected. His statement is still true
I think everyone dies. It'd explain why weyland yutani and the colonial marines never mentioned an isolated event happening in between Alien and Aliens.
@@blainmoney6948that approach would make sense in the greater context. The company obviously knows at least a little of whats up. (Varies by what part of the lore.) Those directives from alien were way too pointed to just be for any random first contact thing. And if they had secured even one xeno previously, wouldnt have pushed as hard for a sample. Unless the predictable happened wherever their last sample was being held.
First time seeing your channel. I like the way you speak and your knowledge on the movies. Thanks for keeping me intrigued and your knowledge of the Alien Universe. :)
I am, sadly, not one who has really enjoyed the movies beyond the first two. However, whatever is in the extended universe, if there is a good story here, will be worth watching. If not, all the special effects in the world, of any type, can't save it. We shall just have to wait and see. My 2 cents ;)
The segmentation of the old module with the new infers a possibility of inspiration from SEVASTEPOL station of ALIEN:Isolation, which had gritty industrial engineering sections as well as modern sections such as medical, accommodation, etc... On a side-note: Could ALIEN: Romulus inspire a new game, perhaps a reboot/redux of ALIEN:Isolation expanding into additional module/DLC for ALIEN: Romulus, integrating the best mods as new difficulty levels (ie up to 5 aliens) in a more modern/capable engine leveraging graphics improvements, better detail and animation of all avatars - ALIEN: Romulus ecially the alien and ironing out some of the quirks like the animations overriding the AI of the alien?
All I want is for Romulus to do what every other Alien movie has done before....change what I think the Xenomorph is supposed to be, watch it adapt to a different situation and change into something we haven't seen before.
I counted 10. Yeah this has to be a hive or maybe it is a secret Weyland Facility experimenting with unsuspected personal. It def feels like Alien Isolation played a role in insipiring this story as i saw several elements as well as alien and aliens with the directors unqiue take on horror elements he did like for evil dead remake. Either way this legit looks Good. :D
I cannot wait, this is about to be Epic!! Prometheus - Love ❤️ Covenant was - Decent Alien Resurrection - Meh Alien 3 - Trash Aliens - Amazing Alien - Terrific
Successful sequels and prequels are very difficult at best. I think we needed Prometheus and Covenant in order to continue the series. They were okay but not something to expand anymore time on. If nothing else, they certainly made me appreciate Sigourney Weaver and the other Alien movies she was in even more. It will take a supreme effort to make this movie a good success. What direction can they go in to keep the interest up? I hope they find it. Even as old as this franchise is, I can’t get enough!
I’m glad I’m not alone in that I find something to love in EVERY Alien movie. I also really really liked Prometheus and Covenant! I soooooo wish we could have seen a third movie play out to connect it to the original 😭
The fact there was a gang of face huggers in one scene of the trailer. There is either a room of eggs like Alien but this time they hatch, or, there is a hive and a queen like in Aliens. I’m curious to say the least
Very excited for this. If there's anything I hope it's just that they keep the callbacks to the latest two Scott movies to a minimum. The movies were fine but the whole "Xenomorph origin" really killed the mystique. So, better less reminders of that and more focus on the "fear of the unknown", which I think is what made the first Alien such a classic
That's why the movies from the 80s are immortal. The drama and the work that went into Alien and Aliens was just next level and it made a movie with real life monsters you'll never forget. When Ripley is looking at the Queen for the first time she actually is looking at the Queen. These things make a film last forever!❤
I always wondered if we were ever going to get another Alien movie. Two movies and a video game always seemed to be a little low for such a popular franchise.
As much as I enjoyed Prometheus (though I hate Covenant) I never really liked the Ancient Aliens approach they took with the lore starting with that movie. Especially since it went against a lot that was implied in the original Alien.
How did it go against the original. They literally stumbled upon the engineers outpost in Prometheus where they kept their bio weapons. Same ship with engineers.
@@ec4146 The derelict from Alien is mich more organic looking than Prometheus' juggernaut. Plus, the space jockes is much bigger than the engineer and it was obviously fused with the ship, not just an armor like the engineer's
Here is the Alien movie we all want: Hadleys Hope! Burke sends Newts family to the derelict and they bring home a facehugger. We see their attemt to save Newts father. The infestation, the struggle to barricade… and so on… everyone dies except Newt. Final scene: gateway station, Burke gets the message that contact with the colony was lost, and he looks at Ripleys file and then decides to involve her… 👍🏻
I really want this movie to be good ! I’m hoping it is and I have faith Alvarez can deliver something disturbing and that taps into the tension of Scott’s original vision
I've been waiting YEARS for this... hope it doesn't disappoint. It looks & sounds amazing so far. I loved the Prometheus and a bit disappointed that didn't continue but it sounds like they are sticking close to cannon so far
The director has already said that there will be connections to other movies of the franchise, so I guess that there will definitely be references to Prometheus and Covenant and the first Alien movie, since Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.
I am so excited for this movie. I love Alien and Aliens. Covenant and Prometheus I enjoyed too. I would like the 3rd movie to lead us to the 1st one as stated.
Honestly, it looks more like a remake than a reboot of the franchise. A small group of people in space with a monster on board has just been mined to death imho. But, I'll catch on tubi someday lol.
It sounds like they might be refurbishing some of Vasquez's and Drake's backstories for some of the Romulus characters, i.e. jobs in space being the only way to get the cash to build a better future. (V & D were also working off some prison time as well.)
I'm with you on that. I enjoy every Alien movie, even 3. But also, less is more. I remember when the first one came out and the trailer just showed an egg crack and this green light and smoke rolled out of it. Up with the title and narrator: "Alien rated R, starts Friday." My brother would run out of the room with his ears covered. But that was all, nothing more and it scared us to death.
Looking forward to it. Looks like a perfect blend of Alien, Aliens and Alien: Isolation. I hope it's as good as it looks so far. Definitely want to know more about that M41A Pulse Rifle wannabe, as I'm a massive Colonial Marines nerd, and Aliens is my favourite movie of all-time and the M41A my favourite movie weapon. I hope Ridley Scott gets to do his final installment too, want a conclusion to the David story arc, just to see where it leads. Also, I was very excited about Neill Blomkamp's direct Aliens sequel and was bummed when it was shelved. Hopefully Romulus fills that yearning, pining gap. Look sharp people! And stay frosty!😎👍
There is an opportunity for a series or movie of a group of colonists trying to survive an alien hive. Hadleys Hope, corporate suits, androids, the horror amping up as people are picked off before one last stand...
@@Jenema2 yeah I know, but I was talking about the Neil Blomkamp Alien 3 that got the greenlight before Ridley Scott nixed it for Prometheous instead. That basically said the 3rd one and Resurrection never happened.
I do hope this film will do well for this director as i love his 2013 evil dead take. The gory level and practical effects was so good i haven't seen a horror film that done this better. So my expectation on this new alien film is very high and so far the trailer is like alien and aliens all into one big film
My one major concern is that a cast of attractive twentysomethings doing unglamorous jobs normally done by older, experienced people who look like plain folks…those movies almost always suck. Pandering to audiences who want everything to look like a music video / tv ad. See (IMO) Prometheus for an example of this kind of thing signaling and contributing to overall stupidity. This was a good breakdown of elements though, I hope it’s solid.
I am more interested in seeing the movie bc of the young unknown actors. I want to see the Queen win at the end. If I don't care much about the characters other than to move the plot along, then the end will be more satisfying if the aliens win. Just my take on it.
Its going to be a parallel to isolation. It came out that she was amanda and, like disney loves to do, they came out with a fake narrative. If she wasnt amanda ripley why isnt her characters name listed yet??
I never associated “another bug hunt” with the Xeno, but just another “alien” life form. In Aliens when Ripley explains to the marines what happened she is describing something they have never encountered before
I always thought that Romulus was supposed to be the continuation for Covenant due to the characters going to their so called destination Origae 6 which wasn't the case after finding out that Romulus will take place in Alien 1 and 2, still, Covenant was a great alien movie in my opinion
I really hope that Amanda appear as cameos, since the movie taking place between Alien & Aliens.... i mean, there has been no Ripleys in recent alien movie.
You forgot to mention Alien Isolation. If what I had heard is true, that the Director for this movie liked that game. A lot of what happens in this movie could be a later continuation to that game. Since Isolation also took place between Alien and Aliens.
Imagine this: At the end of the movie, the girl escapes from the space station and returns home and you as a spectator then discover that the planet was in fact lv-426 and she is just found herself in the middle of the battle against the bugs that would lead to aliens 2 movie? that would be crazy
This is probably the closest we're going to get to a live action adaptation of Alien: Isolation, or at least somewhat of a version of William Gibson's idea of Alien 3.
