‘Kamala seems to have done badly recently on interviews’ - Nope. She’s actually had interviews. People are just seeing how bad she is and always has been.
She's always been unpopular and unpalatable. People either didn't know or completely memory holed 2020 and her entire career as VP where no one gave a damn about her.
Just stop. Its abundantly apparent that the Dem party loves their candidate and Trump can do nothing right while the Rep party idolises Trump and Kamala is completely incompetent. Asked about Healthcare during the debate, Trump said he had the semblance of a plan?! How is that a good answer? Its not. So criticising her interview answers is fine hut don’t pretend he is any better. She is trying to explain and failing while Trump doesn’t even try to explain.
The host talking about "a second surprise Trump win" highlights just how out-of-touch the media are with voters. Maybe the first was a legitimate surprise, but these people should have learnt from that
@@davieshq Freddy Gray has been predicting a Trump victory for the past 12 months; he was just framing a question by referencing what the pollster had just said (who had also mentioned a surprise Harris victory to be fair).

Florida counts early voting and mail in ballots early, so they only have to count the in person votes on election day. Of course they can finish the count that night. States that are later than that usually can't start counting mail in ballots until election day.
For decades (if not longer) we've had the results the day of, or the next at most. After covid and 2020 that magically changed. Nothing weird to see here, and if you think that's weird you're a bigoted conspiracy theorist.
@@alexishoare ALL of the states, honestly its a handful of counties, are very very blue. Of course they need time, it takes a while to figure out how many votes they need to win. 2020 was rigged and the fix was in months before election day by many factions including forces within the government. Anyone that thinks Trump wasn't screwed is either in on it or in denial. This woman is a joke. Like most omen she cares more about optics and emotions than reality and policy.
If that was a serious quote about Gove wanting Harris to win, that will be the end of a lifetime of reading the Spectator for me, and underlines how the last government were totally useless, out of touch and further eroded everything that could still be great about our country...
Wanting Harris to win doesn't require supporting her policies. It just means you find her the lesser of two evils, which isn't hard to understand when you look at Trump. His policies are unconservative and his personal conduct is revolting.
The last election was a referendum on Trump. This one is a referendum on Biden's administration. I find it mind-boggling that Harris didn't distance herself and provide some meaningful policy alternatives going forward. It's why she's going to lose.
She can't because then Biden would undercut her. The deal they struck with Biden is that if he stepped aside they would act like it was so noble and grant him a legacy. If she undercuts him now, she tarnishes his legacy, and he is likely to tarnish her reputation and throw the election to Trump.
Biden's record has objectively been awesome. Real wages up, manufacturing jobs are up, jobs overall are up, inflation is down, stock market is at record highs, when polled people say they are doing better now than under trump.

@@Zagg777 Not really accurate... A lot of countries have been trending towards nationalism but few want to completely undo trade. US politics is more about realistic foreign policy (Trump and the new right) vs idealistic foreign policy (Kamala, Democrats, and neoconservatives).
It's not globalism; it's internationalism. Which is the idea that nation states give up sovereignty for the greater good. Its opposite is realism. Don't be tricked into using words like globalism. It's how the internationalists have been using language to discredit realism, which is the idea that international obligations and rules is nonsense on stilts.

I am a white woman with 3 advanced degrees who was born in the suburbs of LA and lived all of my adult life in SF and NYC. I voted DNC every election. I am considered white and my family is middle class. I will vote Trump or RFK Jr (my first choice.). Given that I live in NYC, it doesn’t matter practically. But perhaps more telling, I won’t vote for any Democrat given how woke has overtaken the party. According to the polls I should be voting for Harris. No way. I suspect there are more women in my demographics.
RFK has stepped aside to allow the billionaire orange man to stand instead, I'd back Jill Stein or Bernie over Kamala if I was in the USA. Don't understand why anyone not super rich would vote for Trump to make them worse off, remember his folly during COVID?
I am not “super rich” but the tax burden on me as a 1% person in their early 30s is a minimum of $100k in additional taxes if Kamala wins for the 4 year term. This is excluding the unlikely event that she can get her “unrealized gains” tax through which would devastate me. I have no way to not be against her since she is villainizing me for my hard work and success. The top 1% already pays 1000x in taxes what our bottom 50% pays. $600 vs $650k a year in taxes. The politicians need to remember who pays the taxes that pays their salaries.
@@quantlife9002 So you a super rich individual concerned about paying extra tax? The top 1% of the USA earn more than the poorest 20% of people! The levels of inequality in the USA are some of the worst in the world, of course you can pay more tax if those on your income in countries across Europe like here in the UK pay far higher taxes! The USA is known for low taxes and rubbish public services. If higher taxes under Kamala affected to economy and people moved out where do they do too? As most other countries have higher taxes! Elon Musk is already too rich for example and the CEO of Amazon, no wonder they support Trump!
Plenty of well-educated people are supporting Trump. We're not stupid. This was a surprisingly good discussion. As a frequent American listener my expectations were low. Kudos.
They may not be stupid but they're incredibly ignorant and naive. Is there a single living dictator that Trump hasn't complimented? My constitution is too valuable to me to let Trump wipe his feet on it again.

I've liked Kate ever since she tried to confront some of the Question Time basket cases with awkward realities and economic facts. The Biden support was massively disappointing; she admitted a lot of Trump's economic policy were far more aligned with her own thinking but seemed unable to offer a cogent counter argument for her voting Biden beyond Trump being mean on Twitter. Her views on importing the third world for cheap labour are wrong headed too.
A big problem is that too many are focused on either Kamala (previously Biden) or Trump, rather than the current Democrat and Republican philosophies and policies. Personally I have issues with the Republicans but these pale in comparison to the woke, technocratic, fascism of the Democrats.

I think the choice will be made on the economy. America is $35 trillion in debt (an historic record) Cost of living: Grapes cost $10, Car Insurance premiums have gone up 47% since 2021 and, of course, the increasing cost of housing & fuel. Layoffs, particularly in the tech sector, are rising & new hires are drying up. Under her tenure, Ms Harris’s home city of San Francisco has: One of the highest number of unsheltered homeless people in the US One of the highest number of drug addicts in the US Biggest exodus of tech jobs from the state due to high taxes, property prices & crime. The Union Square Shopping Mall has shut due to lax crime laws on shoplifting Only 27% of lower income households in America think they’re doing OK. Not looking good for Ms Harris.
What did we learn? Barely a mention about policy but that people vote because of their skin colour, where they live, how much money they have and how well educated they are. Fascinating stuff 😅
Trump said he's working out his policy so he has even less ideas than Kamala. Most of us in the UK don't understand who would support such a orange fool he's a joke in the UK with dangerous ideas who loves Kim Jon Un and Putin.
‘Kamala won the debate’ Really? Really? All everyone else remembers is Trump being incorrectly fact checked by the two moderators, so it was 3 on 1. This is why you’ve not seen another debate.
Are you serious? He was ranting about crowd sizes, accusing immigrants of eating pets and said he had 'concepts of a plan' on healthcare. None of that required any help from the moderators.
It did not take long for the hitler comments to come up Tells you everything about the spectator. It is also interesting how they describe class that it is the difference between someone ordering beer or wine or those who lecture and those who are lectured to. The way these fools are talking you would think it was circa 1930's UK.
I think that the Democratic Party should have chosen Bernie Sanders instead of Kamala Harris. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi thought otherwise. As for JFK Jr, he recognised that the Democrats had morphed into a very different party.
I visit the USA fairly often since 1989, having a son that is a USA citizen. I do not follow ideologies. However I do listen to individuals and also watch carefully their body languaghe. I am not a Trump fan of his personal attidutes, buit comparing Kamala and the V.P. choice of the Democrats, for me Trump almost looks a champion, a far better choice for sorting the present problems of the Nation. The present Democratic party has unfortunately changed too much from when it was the obvious choice.. I remember when Kamala was the first to be eliminated at the Democrats run off, and do not think she has improved, and has not done anything since to justify anyone's vote, other that she is a woman, and supposed to be of colour.
The Democrats have never been the better or right choice. If we had an honest media and big tech, Hollywood, etc. weren't putting their foot on the scale the Dems would never win. And don't forget how the education system indoctrinates children with extreme ideology starting in kindergarten.
A man who predicted the 2016 Trump win and 2020 Joe Biden win and numerous previous ones right says buy issues like the economy and overall Kamala is odd ones favourite to win. She does not have his baggage has ran a better campaign than Hillary and Trump's core base has fallen. Trump said he's working out his policy so he has even less ideas than Kamala. Most of us in the UK don't understand who would support such a orange fool he's a joke in the UK with dangerous ideas who loves Kim Jon Un and Putin.
I like the Repulicans are building a new group of Elites....Tulsi, RFK jr, Elon, Vivek. If Trump really puts them in charge of stuff. They could do some seriously good stuff.
That these educated people (well mainly public school boys) are somewhat supportive of Trump , and think he's really funny, is worrying and a sign Trump will probably do it.
Pretty sure you're in sparse company to claim it's neutral to say she won their debate. She said absolutely nothing of consequence. Her only "argument" is "I'm not orange hitler".
Trump is NOT anti Nato! And there is no question where he stands on abortion. States should (according to the Constitution) make the decisions re abortion. The United States is a Republic, and the responsibilities of the Federal government are narrow (or should be).
The funny thing is they tried this already. She ran for President before and she failed miserably. Nobody liked her on both sides, and in all racial groups. Now the media is acting like people always liked her. It's insane. They can't claim people don't like her because of misogyny when the people claiming that never liked her either.
Vivek Ramaswamy was very popular with Trump's base. And he can talk to "normal people" much better than JD Vance. Also Ron DeSantis in my opinion is the frontrunner for 2028. Your panel know very little about the American GOP.
JD is waaaay better than DeSantis. I had high hopes for DeSantis and he really let himself down in his run for Presidency namely that he came out and said he wanted to stop the Ukraine war and with the tiniest bit of push back retracted his statement. That’s not what is needed in the top. You need leaders that stick to their convictions.
I agree but his main point still stands; the downright embarrassing ignorance of otherwise based British commentators on US electoral politics is almost endemic. This craven attempt to be seen to be offering critiques of both sides leads to some frankly bizarre contortions. My fellow brits; Its ok to say that the democrats are either insane or the puppets of a corrupt establishment and not have to mention trump’s indecorous social media behaviour
@@kenthhamner2641 y’all are crazy man. I like JD Vance and all but he was nobody until Trump elevated him. Vivek is a much more skilled debater on culture war issues and DeSantis has actually governed a state. The problem is DeSantis is an absolute sh!t campaigner against Trump.
Here is a novel idea...if they had actually run a fair primary and let their own people chose a candidate. Then they would win easily. Even though Cali is terrible Gavin Newsom would have destroyed Trump. Unlike Kamala he can actually communicate.
One of the things that is new in ‘education’ is the large numbers of people now holding un-valued (not under-valued) frankly ‘silly’ degrees, because of a sillier notion by Blair thst huge percentages of people ought get degrees…even buy them as now, and huge shortages of skilled technical and business people.
The panel didn't seem to research the actual demographics of the poor in the United States. In fact, in rural America, the poor represent 15.4% of the population, while in urban American, it's 11.9%. So, you're more likely to find a poor Republican working in a feed store in the farm belt of Iowa then you would an urban minimum wage earning Democrat flipping burgers at a McDonalds in Baltimore, when you adjust for population density. 52% of Americans live outside of the urban and rural areas, in places we call " The Suburbs ". There are suburbs of New York City, just as their are suburbs of Ames, Iowa...or Los Angeles...or Denver, Colorado...Dallas, Texas...Detroit, Michigan... Sacramento (CA)....and, Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are all culturally and politically different in makeup.
The discussion gives the impression that US politics only involves the issue of 'personality', which is absurdly neglectful of the real dangers of electing Harris.
Unfortunately that's what TDS is. It should always be principles before personalities but many Americans are too blind to see. Maybe even enough to swing the vote her way. More need to wake up.
I mean politics with money and media is an issue of personality. I ran locally. I arguably had the most knowledge of how government works and what can be done to fix problems. I got out spent by tens of thousands of dollars but a young woman whose entire campaign was "I am a mom and homeless people scare me." She won. People want to feel good. They dont care about policy. This is how Trump and Harris are neck and neck and NEITHER OF THEM has actually articulated how they are going to navigate the next 4 years of crisis.
I think people underestimate the Muslim andArab community. If they’re voting, they were either born here or became a naturalized citizen. They can love their homeland, but see what’s happening in their own backyards. He just wants NATO to pay their fair share and he represents many Americans who don’t want to be the police of the world.
These people are tone deaf and out of sync with U.S. politics if they think that Vance and not Walz has a shot at a future U.S presidency. Good correction from the gentleman to the right for bringing up the Merchant Right and the Brahmin Left; it characterizes U.S. politics perfectly.
@@kenthhamner2641 Absolutely! What he lacks in the optics of stoicism he compensates for in ACTUAL stoicism. Most people want elected leaders who place people above and before corporations, the military industrial complex, and lobbyists. It's a hard find, and I think Walz' work as a governor demonstrates his commitment to bettering people's lives. I don't care if he wears cheap suits and presents as goofy; I want people to care and to be educated enough to put that care into policy and practice. There's so much interference in our elections and political processes that people in the U.S. don't even know what democracy actually is. Rich and poor, educated and uneducated want universal healthcare yet we don't have it because of legalized corruption. Walz would address that and other related issues.
The Spectator isn't what it used to be. They just sound smart with their English accent. The fact they keep mentioning polls without sourcing tells me they think all polls are impartial... they're not. The polls had it wrong in 2022 (Red Wave) and the GOP has been losing if reproductive rights is on the ballot... even in red states. The American Kate Andrews' pounding on Harris as the border czar (she's not) and her interviews shows her bias. Trump's dodged the second debate and 60 Minutes while Harris showed up at Fox.
So I live in NYC and it’s definitely true that the “shame” of supporting Trump is definitely waning! 8 or even 4 years ago even people who supported Trump would not admit it in public this time around I see a lot of people even around liberal circles are more candid in their support of Trump. It’s not a cultural fauxpax to openly like Trump that’s for sure
