@@lakerfan9996 Depends on the country. Some places the income is lower but cost of living and taxes are lower, so even with the lower income it works out better than the US. For example, I lived in Estonia for a while and it's like this, at least if you work in IT. Other places, yea, you need an American income, but you can work remotely, there's all kinds of way to do that. I work remote IT and only work 20-30 hours a week (I don't like working long hours like many Americans seem obsessed with doing), make a little bit (like 20%) over the average American salary, but pay no taxes, I already bought two houses in my country.

Planning to have kids next year. We are both engineers, but we wouldn't be in this situation in the us because I'm physically disabled. My health declined rapidly when I was in uni. I was able to get proper treatment and very expensive medications for free, because of that I'm still able to work full time. Her cousin has to work and misses out on things. I'm not going to tell her to go get a job to be exploited. She has better things to do with her time. Never has my time making minimum wage gotten me a job except at yet another dead end job. "Oh, you worked at that dead end job, have I got the dead end job for you!" You're better off going to college, having a hobby, getting good at something, and then get a real job that pays real money. Parents who can, should be saving up as soon as possible to help pay for college or get a second property the kiddo can live in while they go to school. 15:15 I think your spot on with the idea that the truth is somewhere in the middle. It’s fairly true that wages have not increased as quickly as the cost of expenses. On the other end, people are spending too much on things they don’t need. But connected to that, if they don’t spend the money, the companies don’t do well and jobs are lost. It’s an unfortunate vicious cycle that can only or solved by pay in accordance to basic living cost in my opinion. My wife and I live in a 1 bedroom with a one year old. We gross around 95k combined and have been feeling it over the last year.

You can't spend money you don't have. The only people spending money on things they don't need are people making 80K+ a year that have plenty of income and yet choose to buy massive trucks and other dumb things that consume their income. There is a huge increase in costs for groceries, healthcare and utilities. I feel so much and so badly for her move. We had to move from California just so that my father could maintain a “middle class” income as prices and everything else rose to the roof and because I’ve been there my whole life I can say with confidence that yeah it IS California’s fault and the state will has continually done everything in it’s power to push the native population to leave. That’s why UC’s preferred students from other countries for a bit a decade ago. It gave them more money, but which was made public on the news, but what they missed is that it contributed to the price hike in tuition and now is leading to the problems we see here. Thanks Cali, I loved my home for the beautiful trees and mountains, every other aspect of that state is complete garbage. It wastes the peoples money on anything and everything, but gives little to nothing back. For all the hype, it’s honestly one of the worst places to live in the states. The only thing I’ve had to have done are basic maintenance things, such as an oil change or rotate tires/replace tires. I assure you that you could find a decent priced reliable used car if you look hard enough!
@Tpearson2002
@Tpearson2002 9 месяцев назад
There are plenty of $3000 cars but yes a lot less the previously mainly due to cash for clunkers type programs that were to "benefit" ppl but really forced more to buy new cars and took used cars off the market. Even then it is far cheaper to insure an older car espy when you remove comp/collision because for a cheap car those are pointless. Repairs may be more often but are far cheaper than a car payment. I've driven several cars to 300k+ miles with very little issues. Most vehicles today if taken care of with regular maintenance should last you over 200k miles but most ppl ignore oil changes, and milestone maintenance to save money which can lead to engine or transmission failures early. Most ppl are in a cycle of having a car payment of $500+ for life. The average car payment is over $700mo and ppl keep cars for about 5yrs before trading it in on average. You may not like the car but I can show you even a new car for way less monthly payment and if you keep it for 300k miles which for most would be 20yrs+ you will be a lot better off.

7:42 This is misleading. Homes ARE 190% of 50 years ago, NOT 190% higher. I found the median home price was $32,700 in 1973, when wages were around $10k, so homes were about 3x income. Median home price now is $416k, and wages are around $70k, so about 6x. Not sure if they used these exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure they mean 90% higher when wages are 16% higher.

There are some upsides to that, though. You almost have to try hard to not have healthcare, most people get a state pension, things like daycare are much cheaper, public transit, yadayadayada.
@rilleyblazer2330
@rilleyblazer2330 9 месяцев назад
@woodywoodverchecker oh absolutely, we have a good social welfare system in a lot of ways and even though here too certain people fall through the cracks, in general it means people don't go hungry easily or become homeless often. I do have to add though that it's starting to decline and things like pensions but also Healthcare does not keep up with inflation and is getting increasingly expensive for regular people. The 'sadly' above mostly referred to that it means I can't apply great advice from people like Graham directly because our systems are different.

Oddly enough I'm having the opposite experience in the Netherlands. As a single person here it's much harder than when you have a dual income household. Housing is by far the most expensive category here and rent doesn't double when you rent an apartment together relative to renting as a single person (so you generally pay less when living with a partner), and the same goes for a lot of taxes. The issue here now I do think is being in a secure enough place to start having children, but being DINK (Dual Income No Kids) is absolutely the best possible position to be in. Would you say that's different in America currently or more or less similar?
@samuelmontypython8381
@samuelmontypython8381 9 месяцев назад
@@rilleyblazer2330 I probably should have elaborated that my first ex-wife was unemployed, so that burden mostly fell on me. She did get unemployment but it was half of what she usually made and we required a larger rental unit for space for everything we owned. Being single (and having less than a third of the amount of stuff she had) I rent a much cheaper studio now. To answer the question, yea it’s probably easier with dual income, no kids here in America too but that depends on how much the other person makes and whether they can pull their own weight financially or not

That Cell phone bill is crazy too. Spend a couple hundred bucks on refurbished iphones or something and then get a $15 a month plan, and set your phone to always use your wifi over cell data. I'm all for buying cheap but reliable cars and driving them into the ground. That said we recently paid through the nose for a new car which will hopefully last a decade or two, and I have to say the features on an expensive car might be worth the expense, particularly the fancy collision detection and avoidance stuff.

I feel so much and so badly for her move. We had to move from California to maintain a “middle class” income as prices and everything else rose to the roof and because I’ve been there my whole life I can say with confidence that yeah it IS California’s fault and the state will and has continually done everything in its power to push the native population to leave. That’s why US’s had a preference for students outside the county. On the news it was for money as these students paid more, but now it’s contributing to the increased price of education and leading to the problems we see here. Thanks Cali, I loved my home for the beautiful mountains and trees, but every other aspect of the state is complete garbage. It wastes the people’s money and gives little to nothing back. For all the hype and despite being so woke, it has to be one of the worst states to live. Almost as if it doesn’t believe in the country it’s apart of.

I’m fine with leaving my abusive parents with my husband and moving back into a new home, even if it’s a rental property because we still can’t afford to buy our own home and moving on from trade jobs which are toxic and unnecessary.

I'm not sure if I have any sympathy for HENRYS or people in the middle class because most of their issues are self inflicted. They have thousands in automobile debt because they just HAD to get a brand new car. They're too good for a 2003 Honda Civic apparently. 12:40 it doesnt make sense to me because it seems like when the worker uses technology they are more productive netting more value to the capitalist per hour therefore the worker should get a higher cut of the wealth their labor generated. I think that if this chart were to be spread out over time with the same trend. then employee wages will eventually be virtually horizontal while inflation just continues on linearly upward forever? Look up how much of that inflation we’re seeing is due to naturally rising and falling(lol) economic costs vs how much of it is just corporations increasing their profit margins. Seeing a chart where tech advances and that causes people to work less hours while being more productive than ever and prices still increase while wages stagnate and inflation just keeps making our money worth less and just being like “yea that makes sense” shows a capitalist class bias. That chart is most definitely not sustainable. Wages should increase proportionally to their productivity and it hasn’t.
