The Annapurna base camp trek is one of the most popular treks in the world. It literally brings you face to face with an eight thousander - for a moderate-difficult trek, this is incredible!
The fascinating Annapurna massif includes the world’s tenth highest peak. Annapurna I (8,091 m) holds an almost fatal attraction for mountaineers. It has the highest fatality ratio among the eight thousanders. This formidable aura apart, the ABC trek holds several treasures for the mountain lover.
The Annapurna range whets your appetite for mountain views right from Pokhara. This is even before you start the trek. At Ghandruk, you get distinct views of Machapuchare, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Views of different peaks of the Annapurna massif and Machapuchare stay with you all the way till Sinuwa. The tip of Machapuchare teases you at Dovan. As you burst out of the forest past Himalaya and Deurali, Machapuchare appears before you in its full glory.

The best part of watching any Indiahikes video which features Arjun Majumdar is seeing how his face lights up when he talks about the treks :) Makes you want to go for the trek right away!

did the trek in Dec end, 2019. Kudos to Mr. Majumdar for such appropriate choice of words to express the beauty of this trail. Yes, feels great that I decided to take up this challenge & the rewards were Priceless.

Did this one in 1998. Brings back such good memories to see this. Would like to do it again someday....

Loved the video! Annapurna has a great mystique to it. Still the least summited 8,000er, and still has the highest fatality to summit ratio percentage of all the 8,000ers.

If you dont want to be part of a group. one can backpack their way to ABC. Say from Bangalore..you fly to Lucknow..Train to Gorakpur..Cab and bus to Pokhara and then to Gandruk. This is the cheapest I guess compared to flying to Khatmandu. I did it this way alone last September. You can leave Bangalore Saturday morning and it is possible to comeback Monday early morning..so around 8-9 days and if ur on a tight budget..one can easily do it in under 20K INR - BLR to BLR that is

Annapurna (/ˌænəˈpʊərnəˌ -ˈpɜːr-/[3][4]; Sanskrit, Nepali, Newar: अन्नपूर्णा) is a massif in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal that includes one peak over 8,000 metres (26,000 ft), thirteen peaks over 7,000 metres (23,000 ft), and sixteen more over 6,000 metres (20,000 ft).[5] The massif is 55 kilometres (34 mi) long, and is bounded by the Kali Gandaki Gorge on the west, the Marshyangdi River on the north and east, and by Pokhara Valley on the south. At the western end the massif encloses a high basin called the Annapurna Sanctuary. Annapurna I Main is the tenth highest mountain in the world at 8,091 metres (26,545 ft) above sea level, and in 1950 Maurice Herzog led a French expedition to its summit, making it the first of the eight-thousanders to be climbed. The Annapurna Conservation Area is home to several world-class treks, including Annapurna Sanctuary and Annapurna Circuit. Historically, the Annapurna peaks are among the world's most dangerous mountains to climb, although in more recent history, using only figures from 1990 and after, Kangchenjunga has a higher fatality rate.[6] By March 2012, there had been 191 summit ascents of Annapurna I Main, and 61 climbing fatalities on the mountain.[7] This fatality-to-summit ratio (1:3.1, or 32%) is the highest of any of the eight-thousanders. In particular, the ascent via the south face is considered, by some, the most difficult of all climbs. In October 2014, at least 43 people were killed as a result of snowstorms and avalanches on and around Annapurna, in Nepal's worst ever trekking disaster.[8]

Always a pleasure to watch ur posts. This one too. Your love for treks n nature shines thru. Been on this ABC circuit. Arjun talks of along the Medi Khola route n gorges. There is another one that allows u to avoid goin up n down the same route. That is along the the Mukti Nath road , start treking up to Shikha n enjoy the company og the enchanting Dhaulagiri ranges for a long time. Then up towards Poon Hill n onto Chomrung which is the village below ABC. Do ABC which is High Altitude n then roll down along the Medi Khola till Dhampus which is an hour away from Pokhara by road. It is still a short trek of 5-7 days . And yes the mountain air , the views and hues of the Himalayas , the ice cold snow fed streams are a treasure to partake

Am just back from a solo 27 day trek covering the full Annapurna Circuit as also the Annapurna Base Camp plus certain side treks during the AC ....Tilicho Lake, Ice Lake and Mirarepa's Cave. What ever has been said....I enjoyed the AC trek far more than the ABC trek.

We the people from west of India are always excited for snowy treks. If we trek Annapurna during mid April, can we think of some snow at the final base camp?

Guys I've got a small doubt. Do you get any views of the Sickle high up on the Annapurna Peak or the general route taken by the Maurice Herzog's & the French Expedition? I'm assuming this takes you to the South Face of the entire massif? Would really appreciate a reply :)

Hi Indiahikes I read your article on Annapurna and it has been immensely helpful. I plan on doing the trek mid October and plan on doing it without a guide in the usual 6-9 days depending on the route I take. Could you elaborate on how much cash I would need to take with me while on this trek? As much detail as possible please . Also I don't have a international debit card. Should I take all my cash with me? Is there an alternative ? I've also heard that Nepal isn't allowing the 500, 1000 or 2000 rupee notes. What do I do about that?
