WHY ARE ALL THE TEENAGERS SAD? | Adolescent Mental Health Crisis | What We Need To Help Kids.
Over the last few years, America has experienced a severe uptick in rates of depression, anxiety, and trauma, disclosed by young people. Now more than ever, teens and even young children are describing feelings of despair, sadness, inadequacy, or much worse, and the remedies for these problems are often unclear or uneasy to access. The biggest problem is that these problems are usually only just symptoms of a far worse mental health crisis that's attacking our kids. As an educator, it leaves me feeling overwhelmed and out of ideas as the problem and its solution both seem so much bigger than me. This week, I want to highlight the problem, as described by major news networks, and share my thoughts on how we can align with our communities, get in the trenches with our kids, and work together to fight back against this wave of sadness. Are you noticing a decline in the mental health of students at your school? Let me know your thoughts and I'll see you in the Comments. If I don't know you yet, join our growing community by liking, subscribing and hitting the notification bell so we can come together every week. Be well.

At 9:44, thank you and well said! If we are going to add responsibility, yes, increase pay OR increase mental health days. In addition to remediation, lesson planning, grading, SBRT meetings, PLC, grade-level, meetings, parent calls, and making copies (with fixing the copier), we need the time to reset and rest. I love teaching but sometimes I am physically and mentally tired and I just want to take off to REST just to be that teacher that the students need without worrying about my sick days or vacation days. When I worked in healthcare, they expected me to sometimes take days off because of the high stressful environment. This is not the case in education. it is expected for teachers to be there because of the inability to get substitutes or because we think we need to always be there for these students academically.
