Ahem, it should be called "the Golden Glob Awards." The announcer gets to throw a slime balloon at the winner instead of simply saying their name. As the winner gives their speech, they get dumped with slime for every 30 seconds they take so they don't take too long. As they step down, everyone else gets to throw a slime balloon at them. If u go to the awards show and don't win, u can yeet the ballons extra hard. It's fun for everyone!
"We didn't make a profit in the box office, we barely sold any blurays,SO WHY THE FUCK DO WE KEEP WINNING BEST PICTURE!" At least, I would imagine that would be the reaction of some executive at sony. Just having a meltdown.

Why would I watch some 3 hour snooze fest when I can just boot up the hub, yank my crank and pass out in the bathtub, then do it all again the next day?
That's with alot of shit nowadays and mfs who run these shows/entertainment dont understand that. Especially with sooo many ADD mfs of this generation.
@@effy8263 absolutely, he released the best album of 2020 and got nothing, he released the best album of this year and if he doesn't get nominated, that'll be the nail in the coffin for the grammys
that Lady gaga and Ariana grande song winning over Roddy Rich's song... I think about and I wanna punch a wall. not biased because I don't listen to either but like..cmon now
I screamed at the tv SO LOUD that night. Animation is never taken seriously- most Academy judges don't even watch the animated films/shorts nominated and just choose whichever one has the biggest company tied to it (ie Disney & Dreamwork's)
I feel like this is all summed up in the Lego Movie’s snub. Everyone loves the Lego Movie, everyone admits that it’s hilarious and has genuine heart, but it wasn’t nominated because it was too childish. NO ONE CARES. It’s fun! Just drop the prestige and have fun.
Honestly the oscars have never really cared about the animation industry IMO. There is absolutely no reason why animated films cannot share the best picture category with non-animated features. Also, look how long it took for them to even acknowledge animated movies for academy awards. I know that animation industry has the Annies, but I still think it’s a massive slap in the face that they can’t be judged alongside normal live action pictures.
The problem with the kid’s choice awards now is that no one really that notable attends them anymore. Back in the day like Katy Perry would go, Will Ferrell, Gwen Stefani, etc etc. Now it’s just tik tokers and people who I’m not even sure some kids exactly know
Yeah but I think that thats partly because kids are more into Internet celebrities than traditional celebrities, but still there's plenty of normal celebrities that kids love.. I remember when Jack Black was hosting, that was great
Huh, and here I thought the problem was Dan Schneider and a certain known ring...er.."group" of like minded people being employed by the studio to setsit most of the younger actors...
Ummm..hi. Gen Xer here. I hate to tell you this but you’re officially old and out of touch. Welcome to the club. I PROMISE it’s nice here. Not giving a fuk about what or who is cool is like a REVELATION. I have children, I can PROMISE YOU, they can’t name a SINGLE ACTOR…they’re 21 and 15.😂
@@zippityzoop1478 sure the movie can be enjoyable but it doesn't deserve recognition at the Oscars when so many animated features are far superior in quality and originality. It might have been entertaining to some but it was not one of the best animated films of the year.
Including new categories could be interesting as well, like stuntmen and women do an exceptional amount of insanely hard work and get little to no credit. Making playlists of the artists nominated for music could make people more interested?
There's actually a reason why stunt work isn't awarded and it's because it's a dangerous job. You don't want to go adding an award element to it because that would encourage stunt people to try bigger, riskier stunts to outdo other contenders.
@@chantalgroot4275 As far as niche awards shows go, there are actually awards ceremonies such as the Creative Arts Emmys which honor technical achievements in the industry-they just aren't really advertised or as well known because the general public doesn't really care, nor would they really be familiar with any of the names that receive those awards. Also, @Chantal Groot, you are incorrect here because in fact there are categories for stunt performance at some awards shows. Again, people just don't necessarily know this because they don't care/pay attention. For example, the 2021 "outstanding stunt performance" Emmy went to a stunt actor from the Mandalorian
Stunt performers would actually like to be awarded but movie companies don't want this to happen because with recognition they will become famous and may demande more pay. Also for actors who lie that they do their own stunts would be ousted.
@@JeanPaulBeaubier but I think you just proved the point... They have them there and make sure they arent as popular. Same as to why many dont even know metal can get awards, because they are hosted before the actual show. They only show the most popular things so it makes sense why BIG boy awards dont have them
For me, it's hard to sit through 2-3 hours of rich privileged people patting each other on the back for a rigged contest while I'm struggling to make ends meet. It just doesn't feel good.
Some actually worked really hard and also struggled to make ends meet like Ke Hue Quran. I think also these shows can bring a lot of attention towards those who are actually interested into the film and or theater business such as myself. Also these awards shows are also very important to what is reflected upon our modern society, such as representation often being overlooked and award shows finally giving awards to underrated or under appreciated artists. I absolutely agree tho, so much can be corrupted and not really true to what these award shows should really hold to as their morals. And even the rich and privileged again being recognized as rich and privileged. Award shows have come a long way and maybe haven’t changed for the better. TLDR; I agree but award shows like these can hold my interest if it’s like an underdog type of story winning an award.
There have been multiple stories of writers and even actors walking up to receive their awards in $8 bow ties and shoes they bought off of Amazon because they were dead broke. The elites don't always equate to who's famous, contrary to popular belief.

I find two things extremely awkward about celebrities. 1 When they are roleplaying 'in character' for fans and 2 When they are playing themselves for stuff like this, Award shows and Talk shows
This does not apply to Tom Hiddlestone, though. I refuse to even acknowledge that. I think it applies to Zach Woods, but in an endearing way. Thank you for listening to me say several words about all the very limited number of famous people I know
The kids choice awards is unironically my favorite award show, even now as an almost 24-year old grown woman. Getting slimed is the only non-awkward way to interrupt an acceptance speech that’s going on for at least a minute too long.
It's the only award show were they even your karma from the get go. "You got an award? Cool. You'll also get your hair and probably rented outfit ruined for the night. Get f*cked"
Let's also not forget how bad they treat animation every time, like I think an Academy Award voter guy once said that he voted for the movie his grand daughter saw, this is why Disney/Pixar almost always wins, even when they don't deserve it
It was a bunch of them saying that, it was the year Frozen won I believe. They don't watch the movies, they just go off what their kids like (that whole thing was super racist, too, bc iirc someone said something along the lines of "who cares about chinese freaking things")
Yeah I think that whole thing was stupid. It's like, what, 3 people said they just vote for what their kid likes. Out of HOW MANY voters? The category is like 20 years old and Disney has won a whole 1/5 or so of the time, and I'm sorry you're smoking some contaminated weed if you don't think Pixar deserved the majority of its wins. What's actually ridiculous is that the animated features almost never get Best Picture nominations.
@@FrenkTheJoy Just from the top of my head, Brave, Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Zootopia and Toy Story 4 didn't deserve their wins, sure they aren't all Pixar movies, some are Disney, but none of them deserved to win. Also, unrelated, but the Animated film category lost all of their credibility when they nominated Boss Baby
Tyler literally got best rap album for Igor. He talked about how he was happy that his work was getting seen, but he felt like it was weirdly racist that they called him a rapper just because he was a black man who made a mixed genre album. Tyler isn’t a rapper anymore and has talked about how he hated doing rap but he though it was all he could make because of his voice. Now he creates experimental pop music and it seems like he’s just haunted by his past. He definitely deserves the award but I wish that he was seen as a mixed genre singer instead of a rapper
my favorite award shows are the independent film awards because you just have a bunch of amazing indie artists in a room together, they all know people are less interested in it, and so theyre all much more loose and easy going. also the hosts are always iconic
imagine being one of the organizers of the Oscars and thinking it's a good idea to get rid of the host. Like... this is the only thing tying the award show together at this point
Lets not forget how Rickyy Gervais called Apple out for making a show about doing right thing while running sweatshops in China and Tim Cook was there.
My high school acting teacher was actually a voting member for the Oscars lol, she always told us how ridiculous and biased it all is. For me, it was just wild to know that my foul-mouthed spitfire of a teacher was one of the people responsible for picking who wins these prestigious awards.
When music and Emily in paris were nominated for golden globes I just realized that they clearly don’t know what quality is. So I’ve decided they don’t matter anymore.
There will never be a more entertaining awardshow moment then when the icon, the legend Marcel Reich-Ranicki refused the lifetime award at the 'german televisionawards' and proceeded to drag the entire german television industry and roasted every single person at the awards. Live on national television. For 3 whole minutes. Fucking iconic.
I can guarantee if the Oscars did public voting either a BTS music video, a RU-vidr pushing a video or a 4chan Pepe far right animation would win every year.

I think people should go in their costumes and act as their characters. That would bring the pristige down and it would be a cool cross-over to see tony stark meet captain jack sparrow or something crazy like that
For years we had to hear "milenials and gen z's get awards just for showing up! Who cares about awards?" And now "why don't they watch award shows?" A true mystery.

We're all so sick of award shows because we know it's all fake. We know every award is bought and sold, nothing is based on actual merit. We're all tired of watching rich people pat each other on the back for being rich and prancing around in outfits that cost more than quadruple my rent, meanwhile way too many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. The level of pretentiousness in their distorted reality is sickening.
@1:46: but you can’t deny, it was one of the most entertaining things that happened on TV in the last decade. Oh no, is that Will Smith I see in the distance???
I don’t trust any sort of voting award crap. Not after my school did a give away at prom, where they gave away TVs, stereos, and gaming systems, yet the only winners were children of the ones volunteering to run that. The only exception was a $25 gift card that went to my friend to some store no one goes to.
Isaac Prusky I’ll be the one villain that’s horribly bad at villainy, and my motive will be to target all school proms because of this one thing! :) lol I’ll rip off of Joker and say we live in a society
Yo I feel you though. I participated multiple times to my school's art magazine thing (it's a collection of poems and fiction and whatnots) and never gotten in. The only people who did get in were the editors and their friends...
I have a friend whose dad is a voting member of the Recording Academy, but he’s out of touch with modern music so he lets his kids fill out his ballot for the Grammy’s lmao
When I was REALLY little, I used to think that the grammy's got voted on by the public. Then I found out, thats not the case at all. That's when award shows stopped being any kind of fun, especially when they never pick the good artists.
The public wouldn’t pick the good artists either. If anything I’d say the problem with the Grammy’s is that they nominate popular artists instead of good ones.
if we’re gonna slime award winners from now on, they are still required to wear their overpriced gowns and suits it’s not like they’re gonna wear em again anyway
I mean, that sounds like a good idea in theory, but, in reality, that would be wasting the efforts of the designers who probably spent months or even an year to prepare those gowns (I'm only talking about the gowns since suits usually aren't as hard to produce unless its something like what lil nas x or tyler would wear). Even if they won't wear them again, ruining a intricately made gown that was painstakingly made like its nothing can definitely hurt the designers personally because they'll feel like their efforts were for nothing. Designers like seeing their clothes out and about for people to see even if it is just a one-wear gown and trust me, designers want the outfits they make for these celebs to stay perfect the entire presentation/event. Like, imagine if you make something, like a painting or food, and someone just comes and ruins it, demolishing your hard work along with it. At least for the kids choice awards, the celebs there wear outfits that usually aren't that fancy because they know they're gonna get slimed, but for a prestigious event like the emmys or oscars, that ain't gonna work out Source: My mother is a seamstress, trust me, do NOT mess with custom-made clothes. You have to think about different perspectives too, destroying an expensive handmade gown can have a severe impact on the designer. Its better for something to rot away in a closet forever than to be completely destroyed, making it unusable
I think there's something to be said about rock music being snuffed too. The entire metal and punk community boycot the Grammy because none of the artists we care about are recognized during the main show, we put more stock into the golden gods, etc.
You should watch Bollywood award shows if you want awkward. Once Priyanka Chopra pulled John Travolta and Kevin Spacey on stage to teach them how to dance This was at least 8 years ago and I STILL am embarrassed
I grew up with Bollywood awards show because my parents watch them all the time as fucking bizare and obviously forced they are for some reason they can be fun to watch
i spent so long laughing at the actors' portraits for the recent sag awards because they so obviously are just iphone pictures and none of them look good at all. like, couldn't they hire photographers?? the pandemic has added a whole new level of awkward to these award shows and now they're no better than a zoom awards ceremony for your younger sibling's middle school graduation
TL;dw: Providing awards that recognize excellence involves comparing subjective art against each other through unexplained criteria which makes the premise of awarding said art with the recognition of an understanding that it was (in the eyes of the voters) objectively better than it’s nominated competitors. TL;dr: People care too much about other people’s biased opinions
I legit refused to believe that was real for a long while since it happened literally the year right after that same thing happened with Miss Universe.
Most things are lost by not being on cable, my mom still says it was the smartest financial decision ever and it's going to be obsolete soon, I hope companies especially sports stop trying to haggle and just make their own streaming service or become a deluxe package on hulu or something, even places like sling tho have those channel packages that would be a lot cheaper for ppl who want sports without the extra
I remember some of my most loathsome experiences were from receiving awards. I think they are inherently uncomfortable. it's basically being forced to humble brag in public.
In these award shows, I just want Tom Hanks to wear a "Buzz Lightyear" costume and he says "I was drunk last night and got confused with Tim's character so here we are" and it would be perfect.
I think another element worth noting that makes award shows persist is the need for spectacle. Specifically, celebrities want to show up in expensive outfits, feel prestigious, get some connections, then leave. It’s not even about the audience, the general public, anymore, I’m not sure it ever has been. I’m so sick of people with money telling me what I should like and care about. I’ve had more fulfilling conversations about film with online communities than I have ever seen on television. Additionally, RU-vid is where some of the best commentaries on current and past films/tv shows have been made. We’ve collectively outgrown award shows.
100% they should just privatize it. It's only about people in the industry it always has been and it should just be that way. Why should we care ? This is for their work not ours ? I wouldn't ask randos in the street to watch recording of my work reward ceremony. They won't care. Why should they ? I wouldn't care about theirs. I barely care about mine.
@@ArturGlass.C There also could definitely be an after party for schmoozing that we don't see, why are they trying to subject us to Boss Baby nominations

Look up Oscars 2017 when the tourists got to walk through the Oscar’s, they do care about the audience, and they’re awards for media the audience watches.
Even fan voted award shows like the Teen Choice Awards have disclaimers that the producers can choose the winner regardless of who actually got the most votes.
Dude come back when you’ve seen an Internet Historian or Internet Comment Etiquette ad. Eddie is great and all but those other two are the kings of ads
Kids Choice awards literally had people talk about how they wanted to get slimed during the show and some that didn't want it still got it, very top tier entertainment imo
my mom is a VERY normal person, she won an oscar for best live action short film in 2000, and therefore votes for the oscars every year. we live in pennsylvania and she’s now a realtor - i think there are a bunch of normal non-famous people like her voting around the country/world, BUT that being said, most people are super caught up in the industry and the prestige like you said so thats were the riggery comes in. in conclusion, we should all strive to be more like the kids choice awards
Harvey Weinstein was also one of the first guys who really focused a lot of his energy on awards shows for his studio. He realized that if you can schmooze to win awards, then you could easily rack up a lot of wins for your studio by buying the right content and schmoozing in the right way. He also realized what you described-using the massively recognized prestige of the Oscars and other awards as a marketing strategy for your films. So you can thank Harvey Weinstein for creating the modern corruption we witness at these events. They were always corrupt but he was one of the first of the modern era to really milk it for all its worth.
the tony’s are absolutely the best award show. always the most entertaining and the participants don’t look like there is someone pointing a gun to their head.
I hate award shows honestly. They’re all rigged and I’m so sick of celebrity culture being shoved down our throats at every possible opportunity. The less I know about celebs the better.
I love the bit about "awards show talk". I've always hated that weird sing-song, take turns delivering lines thing that they do. Its so sad seeing some actor who has given amazing performances reduced to some lame host reading weak lines from a teleprompter.
Bullshit. It was Bullshit . It makes me glad that we seem to not care anymore . I find out award shows are happening when I open RU-vid or Instagram or something. Then the usual outrage sets in and I remember not to care .
