The earliest known instances of fist fighting as a type of sport date back to around 4000 - 3000 BC, but these historical fights don’t resemble the boxing we know today. They seem to have leaned more toward the “anything goes” method of unarmed fighting. The modern form of more regimented bouts didn’t begin until the early 18th century.

Finally someone outside of boxing circles pointing out that wearing gloves is bad for boxers health! Ex boxer here, and I would rather have had a few more scars on my face than the brain trauma. Knowing what I know now, I would only box bareknuckled, if I had to do it over again. Our knowledge about the danger of head trauma is the deathknell for this sport. A matter of time, imo.
@robertt9342
@robertt9342 5 лет назад
Is there a middle ground that would be acceptable? Perhaps very thin gloves with very little padding?
@BrianMillerCGN
@BrianMillerCGN 5 лет назад
@@robertt9342 Of course there is, but to what purpose? Once you put the wraps on your hands turning your hands into projectiles, even before the gloves, you are increasing the risk of brain damage. So how much brain damage is enough for you? How much more damage to YOUR brain would YOU want? Is that the discussion now? I don't evn watch boxing any more, and I was obsessed with it. At this point, it should either be outlaw gloves and wraps, or outlaw boxing and mma (yes, mma should also be without gloves, in addition to same reason, they also use the gloves to assist in their holds, which would not be an issue without gloves).
@MrSheckstr
@MrSheckstr 5 лет назад
Boxing Gloves are like football helmets both actually made their respective sport more dangerous because the one making the contact was more confident of escaping injury which made them striker with greater power than before and the increased kinetic energy was more than they stroked persons protective gear could absorb I wonder if the solution is to outlaw head strikes the same way The NFL has outlawed helmet to helmet contact

Perhaps banning hits to the head in boxing would be an idea? I am not a boxing expert, (Ironically, I once worked in a factory that made cardboard boxes, and would tell people that I was a "boxer", I also drove a Chevette then and told people that I had a "Vette", Yeah in the 80's, I thought I was clever! LOL) I'm just thinking that maybe THAT could be a "thing", If original bare knuckled fights concentrated on "body shots", We could go back to that AND keep the gloves? 🤷‍♂️

0:20 Yeah back then it was much more like early mma. It's interesting how that basically disappeared as a legitimate competition for centuries and made a huge comeback recently. The Greeks were some of the first to use boxing and wrestling, I wonder how a few of they're best would fare in a UFC bout. Their nutrition and technique would be inferior, but obviously they had the same weapons and they lived in a culture that was perfect for creating elite athletes. They were well paid, highly respected and there wasn't football or basketball to lure away the best athletes.

Corn is very hard for the body to fully digest or fully pass, so it stays in your system longer (kind of gets stuck). It slowly makes its way through and eventually does come out a lot later, but because it doesn't break down well it still 'looks' whole. I hope that makes sense to you and answers your question. Edit: I would suggest that if it is taking that long for it to pass through your system, that you try consuming more fiber and fluids in your diet. You also may want to see a doctor to check your digestive health, just to be safe.

I had heard that boxing gloves result in another disservice to the boxer: That the boxer doesn't learn how to punch properly because the gloves provide so much padding. The result of this is being, if the boxer actually punches someone with a bare fist, they are more likely to break their hand. Is this true?
@marcusvachon845
@marcusvachon845 5 лет назад
In addition to the gloves making boxing more dangerous, the size of the gloves also contributed to the danger. When gloves were first used in matches they were smaller than the gloves used by the competitors in mixed martial arts. These small gloves kept the combatants from punching their opponents in the head too much. However, as time went on the size was increased. The larger size gave the fighters more confidence to punch a person in the face. This lead to more knockouts, but it also lead to people being punch drunk.

Actually the real reason why gloves were introduced to boxing was that bare knuckle fights where less action-packed because one punch on the forehead or on the elbow could break the boxers' hands. So the greedy boxing promoters introduced gloves so that the boxing fights would be more action-packed as the fighters would be that reluctant to engage in brawls. the gloves were never intended for the safety of the boxers, and when gloves were not proving that effective hand wraps were introduced. I am a boxer myself.

Ben 610 from Etymology Online: hideout (n.) also hide-out, "a hiding place," 1885, American English, from hide (v.) + out(adv.). The verbal phrase hide out"conceal (oneself) from the authorities" is attested from 1870, American English (in reference to Northern draft dodgers in the Civil War).
