This is NOT a spear point as the tip is not centered (though it is close). Also, if you want to get technical… a spearpoint is a drop Point varient 😬 anyhoo, The Drop Bear is on fast track to becoming my favorite crossbar lock knife. This model in particular (along with other Drop Bears).
A) Did you think how many more youtube hits you would get were you to ask? B) It can't be a spear point or a lance because "double edged" knives are illegal in Texas and manufactures do't feel like hiring a lawyer every time somebody else breaks the law. C) I've found a chisel point or "Tanto" style to be amazingly practical in bush crafting applications because I usually do need a chisel.
Very cool. I think more gals are gonna get into knives watching your version of cool factor. Keep it up, when you cut the box in one stroke it sent a chill up my spine. This video was fun to watch ❤
@@MelissaBackwoods I find the synchronizing portion of editing to be the most time consuming and at the same time the most rewarding. You can feel the energy in a room full of viewers. Keep it up.
I was wondering why a good looking women has such an enjoyment of different blades? I couldn't reply on my add comment area so I just dropped the question anywhere.
I like that Melissa explains the blade and knife mechanics, I wish she did that more often. Showcase videos of cool looking knives are good, but explaining the rationale and practicality behind them is even better.
Some of the info is incorrect. She mentions the curve of the belly of the knife makes it easier to slice. Yet the things she shows slicing , she's slicing with the heel of the blade.
Hmm so that's why cold steel is so popular. 🤔 I pretty much never have seen a Cold Steel knife that's not also a weapon, or at least effective as a weapon in a pinch; I think.
@@justinjones4199 its usually high edge retention that makes a knife harder to sharpen, which lc200n doesn't have. I've found it pretty quick to sharpen.
Imho kizer has been knocking it out of the park in the last year or so. QA has skyrocketed, their steel selection broadened, working with new upcoming designers and some legendary ones and they're never afraid of putting out something new. I used to side eye them but now I'm catching up with my collection, very happy for their growth
My personal favorite blade shape for edc is a warncliffe blade. Not the best for survival or heavy work but for general daily use and ease of sharpening I really love a warncliffe. I carry a fixed blade and a folding one.
Good work Miss Backwoods, very informative. That Drop bear is nice. I've been warning tourists here in Australia about drop bears for decades, now someone has named a product after these violent, predatory koalas, and this product can lacerate just like a real drop bear,(which isn't really real and we only talk about drop bears in earshot of tourists). Lol
Hello Ms. Melissa 😊, you are extremely educated I thought I pretty much knew all pocket spring assisted stilettos switchblades but you have taught me a lot more than I thought I really knew. This drop point the way you explained it is something I've seen but I never knew the reasoning why? Thanks to you and your collection I know so much more, but as you well know it's not good to brag about something like this or anything really but you don't want to give away what you got! These days people that I thought were casual friends have turned on me things are different, these new poison drugs out there are making people really F' up. Be happy but be safe first, we wuv you! 🌹
Personally I prefer Warncliffe & Persian blades the thickness of the spine carries to the point too. And a Persian &/or Bowie has a narrow piont that allows use in tight restricted places that drop point ir spear shape can't touch. Love ya anyway Melissa
I love drop points, specifically symmetrical (spear-like) ones like the Drop Bear. It's the most useful overall blade shape, IMO. Having the tip centered also means you can drill, like for a lot of bushcrafting tasks.
I have the artic storm fat carbon scales with Elmax steel version and it has become one of my favorites. It has the most smooth axis lock of all the companies in my opinion.
I'm opposite...I prefer a clip over drop point. Maybe it's a nostalgic thing, since the Buck 110 comes in clip point, and it's my first folder , that started me on collecting knives
@@Monsoonpain The Buck 110 is offered in clip point and also drop point ( I bought one ) ! In 2001 I bought my second BenchMade folder and it had Titanium scales and the grind was a modified drop point sheep’s foot , I’ve used it ever since ! I switch off too ! I found a Buck 110 from a custom run around 6-7 years ago and it had nickel silver bolsters , coco bolo scales and the melt is clip point grind but it’s D-2
I have other grinds too that are well suited to different tasks and one Scandi grind that I really like which is a drop point ! One SOG fixed blade is a compound grind , I kinda like it for the main blade being a hollow grind but goes into a flat grind the the last 1”&3/4” to the tip ! That section is on a downward line from the top to the tip ! A master blade smith in Japan designed it , he has many design awards , it has to grow on you as you use it , then one day I went oh so that’s the purpose then I got it ! It’s model is Kiki !
@normanmallory2055 - D2 version of a Buck 110? Wow....hadn't heard of that. I heard of D2 variants on the Buck fixed blade (119), and I own the 110 in S30V and traditional 420HC....but I bet that D2 is a great performer and a great collection piece !
D-2 is a tool steel and 35 some years ago more like 40 a knife maker brought it in on a custom blade , it’s not talked about so much now as there are better melts ! 24 years ago I picked up my first ATS-34 months later 154-CM both are very close melts and have fine points ! 10 years ago the S30V 50V and 90V were coming in ! I bought a BenchMade 940 designed by Osborne and it has S30V melt , it’s really good on what an ALL ROUND STEEL SHOULD HAVE . ! One can add $100.00 plus to the same knife or more with S90V blade , depends on what a person wants ! Over time I’ve added a VG-10 melt on a folder and like it fine ( the blade is laminated) sharpens well , holds an edge well , doesn’t corrode! The 440 families of steel keeps the price down but it’s short on quality but easy to resharpen ! I have one fixed blade that has AUS8 melt which falls in the 440 family ! Knowing that as I liked the design I bought it anyway knowing I would have to sharpen it a lot ! I have 2 fixed models by Tops and they use 1095 or 1075 melts which has been used for knife making for 100 years , it has to be heat treated to get the 58-61 RH and it’s fine otherwise it’s too soft ! One by Scar Blades ( love that knife ) and it’s 1095 melt heat treated , if that same knife had S90V melt it would be pretty close to a $1,000.00 knife ! I’ve owned Buck folders all my life mostly the Hunter and Ranger problem free , fixed models the same !
Hey Miss backwoods probably in the future you’re gonna have a another house for your knife collection or Build A Nother room on your existing home for your knife collection you do a great job and we appreciate you. I’m just joking with you you keep up the good work young lady I noticed that braid almost got in the way of your demonstration. Be careful don’t get that Purdy hair off.
Just received my Böker Atlas with a brass handle. I love how none-threatening it looks, especially due to its classic looking drop point. Also just a great mix between a spine tip and an edge tip blade shape. You know what I mean. 🥰 An all purpose looking, none-specific blade shape weirdly make it look less "dangerous" / suspicious to me and others. Which makes that blade shape perfect for low key edc! 🤘
Melissa, you must be living the dream by now, eh? I'm so incredibly proud of you for making it this far. 😊 You got this girl! I am here to support you through the entire process. Braids N' Blades!!❤ -Jessica
Oh my Goodness! I think that I may Love her Voice.😮I listened to this RU-vid commercial about 20 times.😅She could have been talking about literally "anything" and I'm here for it. Well, almost Anything!😂
Shout-out from Texas, love your channel, like collecting knives, but prices some companies are asking are insane,we know the ones, personally I'm boycotting them! But to each their own.Keep up the great vids.
