It’s funny how most of the problems we have had with the last couple of formats could have been avoided. If Konami would have just made the cards not be so damn hard to pull.
I can't stretch this enough, The rarit system in the OCG is SO FUCKING MUCH BETTER that cards that cost like 3 days of your salary in the US cost like half a decent meal in Japan, we are FUCKED by a very large margin.

Honestly Snake-Eyes being as expensive as it is just makes me think someone at Konami is trying to see just how hard they can milk whales before people stop buying product. Yeah I know a fair bit is prices from resellers, but considering the rarity spikes the TCG routinely sees, Konami gets some blame on this one too…
Konami gets all the blame. They decide how rare cards are and if the cards are not TCG exclusive they know what will be good thanks to the OCG and then decide to make certain cards more rare in the TCG. Resellers are just the scum that feeds on Konamis absolute stupidity and greed

They’re a somewhat necessary evil, but at least they’re up front about gouging people/being in it for the money.
Wizards of the coast ended the MTG here in Brazil early this year, no more translated products, and right before that they just lauched a bunch of collection one after another (just like YGO is doing right now), this and the fact that the Producers of YGO made a f*** meeting saying that they were concerned about the game state rn, is a massive redflag. If this goes on, the game is gonna die. Don't take the "Die" to literally, i can die in various way, insane low player base, hard to get products, no more official tournaments and etc... We may lose the game we love in some years...

A simple solution would be to let players use cards from outside their region. Example, Magic. I've used Chinese or other languages in main events because they were cheaper to acquire but 100% legal. But I can't use the fun non-English cards I have because reasons
@@TheLegacyDanThat's kind of the point. The TCG intentionally doesn't let you use OCG cards because you'd be bypassing their shitty pull rates, and not because you'd unintentionally be using a yet to be released OCG only card.
I will always maintain that stun and burn exist exclusively as protests to unfair, high cost formats. If the "real" decks people are supposed to play are unobtainable, then this is a way to show their disdain.

Why not allow more people to play competitively without over pricing and grow your community for a slowly diminishing 20+ year old tcg. Master duel was good example of this
I'm relatively new to Yu-Gi-Oh so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm wondering: did the "cards Konami obviously made stronger to get people to buy the set" always exist like this? I know to some extent that this was always the case, but I feel like there's an undisputed best thing every set now that gets to do something that was previously thought to be taboo. The last few metas were either Tier 0 or very close to it. It wasn't always like this, was it?
@@heinokunzelmann8967they did but you'd get cards like this very occasionally and many cases were just because Konami fucked up and didn't realize how strong a mechanic was until after it was printed in the OCG (Eg: Zoo and Spyral) It wasn't multiple broken ass shit cards 5 levels above last set every single set until POTE though.

Something worth noting however is that every couple of years there seemingly is a set that exceeds everything before. Power of the Elements being without a doubt one of the biggest creeps in power. Another thing worth noting when talking about tier 0 formats that I really don’t think is pointed out is the internet. There’s been an increase in tier 0 formats that sorta aligns with an increased presence of the online yugioh community. With sets being released in the OCG first and people all around the world being able to lab and test different decks, the power of modern archetypes become known to the player base long before they’re actually released. Netdecking, a practice of copying another’s deck, used to be taboo but now is just the idea of optimizing your deck to the point where if you do use a suboptimal or even just a different build of a deck you’re told you’re wrong. Deckbuilding has become more homogeneous compared to the past.

Ive been playing runick ghoti online and everytime someone gets mad or salty at me for it i just go "blame fire decks hun, none of us are allowed to have fun anymore"
@@ashemabahumat4173 id argue that a deck being thousands of dollars and being NEAR unbeatable is a hell of a lot more toxic than a banishment deck... Also it's not like it's hard to counter... Hit one card and you stop the whole combo chain and make the deck useless as hell. The runick cards in ghoti are solely there to stall for a good hand.

I will keep playing stun until they either make yugioh affordable again or they ban stun. If they ban stun instead of making the game affordable I'll just quit the game. Imagine being angry because people choose to play the only affordable deck that can beat a deck that costs a small fortune.
No one gives a shit if you play a cheap or expensive deck. If you like playing stun, keep playing. People are annoyed at the gameplay you create, not the price of your deck. If you dislike playing it, and just do it cause of the price, then that makes no sense just quit. Imagine actually wasting hours of your life on a game that you dislike. You can also try sticking to online. Yugioh was never widely affordable, if anything it was the opposite for most of its lifespan with exceptions always but they exist now too. You want to play the best deck and 9/10 times those were different price tags of expensive. Stop hiding behind the price tag to justify playing stun. Either have the balls to say that you like it online even, or quit you big fucking baby.
Can you please stop playing stun and play decks YOUR SUPPOSED to play in a tournament. If your going to play a cheap deck, at least play a bad cheap deck so you don't ruin the experience for those who actually spent the money for this game.

The kashtira snake eyes is way worse now. I was beating snake eyes pretty fine, but those kashtira cards makes it more punishing to negate them while also allowing them to combo with ease.
I can't understand how people play Runick in MD when almost literally *EVERYTHING* they do, Kashtira/Purrely does better. Especially when the field spell's at 1, most of the decent spells are semi'd/limited, and all it takes for the entire goddamn deck to fall apart at the seams is your opponent having Ash/Imperm/Veiler to stop you from searching Fountain off Hugin.
@@TheTaintedWisdom I run them because Runick is a good consistency engine that is splashable in midrange archetypes. I've been playing Runick Generaider (Synergies of Fairys, 9s, and Forced Draw), and almost every hand converts into a decent endboard, even through Ash. Runick isn't viable in MD as a pure strat, yeah, but as an engine is *some* brickier decks? can work wonders.

Somehow we have gone back to what feels like old DaD format, where unless you spend $1k on the best deck, you might as well go play a tabletop instead. Sucks that my only option to play one of my favourite decks in recent memory is through a simulator cause paper costs my college fund… I simply ask, did bonfire need to be a secret rare chase card? It’s ROTA, not a boss monster…
I'm gonna be real here. I've been playing it in Master Duel on and off since release. The deck is fucking boring. It's been optimized down to: If I open any of my ways to play through or around handtraps, you lose to my 2-3 handtraps you have to contend with + however big of a board I can make.

I think if Snake eyes just added an effect to the special summoners that said "you can't special summon monsters this turn except Snake eyes or diabellstar monsters" it would be really balanced and fun.
I actually really like this. Maybe it will make players realize just how big of a problem pricing is in YGO is lol. Also It's not that hard to fix, just do rarity the same way the ocg does it and things will get a lot better. Also there is no reasonable explanation why a pokemon deck should cost a tenth of a a YGO deck when it's all just cardboard.
The reason pokemon is cheaper is because the card game isn't the hole franchise . but the card game for ygo it is hole franchise so if the card game for pokemon doesn't sell well they still have the video game and everything else . Pokemon is using the Amazon stregy because if they're the ceppest card game then people well buy ther card game instead of mtg and ygo and in the long run they well make more money ( Amazon did same thing with dupers and now ther doing the same thing with books)
We know YGO is in a massive pricing problem. Outside of Yugitubers or sellers (scammers) the wide player base complains about the pricing problems all the time

"Snake Eyes is an interesting, interactive deck" I love all the interactions I am getting from playing against 2 omni negates + destruction immune 4 material Apollousa, not counting the average of 2+ hand traps still in hand, if not a summon limit on board. Not to mention the Fire King variant having 5 non field interruptions. This format is only interactive if your deck can play 15 hand traps and play through 2+ interruptions with 3 or less cards, consistently. Aka if you also play Snake Eyes (and maybe Voiceless Voice). Otherwise you are forced to play floodgates and D-Shifter, and hope you go first.
It's so hilarious that snake eye is so expensive it is causing people evolve how they play stun. It is a terrifying thing that's stun is becoming meta relevant.
Always remember. Meta and Tier 0 is not about power level, is about representation. If everybody but one person plays Madolche at a WCS, the meta and the tier 0 is Madolche.
nah i think its both. snake eyes are ridiculous toolbox cards and this is precisely the kind of format that konami wants. they know we'll all revert to cheap stunn decks when the meta gets like this. and in all honesty, their much more fun to play than meta combo decks.
Funny enough necrovalley and gravekeeprs have been getting me up the plat ladder in master duel simply because locking them out of the grave yard kills their material recycling and endless combining. Just sucks it’s “go first and get necrovalley out or lose” though
Worst thing of all is that the cards that are going to be hit are probably the ones that give you a chance to fight against this monstrosity of a deck, just like they did with floodgates probably pachi, jowen and company are going to be the ones taking the smoke
I just love how things like Stun and chainburn, decks consistently dismissed as matchup fishy noobtraps, are hitting their stride because of how bad the format currently is price-wise. New innovations are even being found (Like Golganda in Fossil Dyna stun) because we're that determined to not have to buy Snakes.
Chain Burn can also kill pretty quickly and consistently nowadays. Just Desserts, Ceasefire, and Chain Strike are or course still there but the deck did get some new tools over the years (Secret Blast, Bad Luck Blast, Ghostmourner - which is especually potent when combined with Ring of Destruction) and going second barely matters at all since you just set five and pass: no deck sets up a board that can wipe your backrow. In Master Duel you can get to Master with that and in best-of-three this should also be feasible, given that no one prepares their side deck for burn.
@@galaxyvulture6649 bcz they used to lose to side decking immediately (they can't go 2nd for the most part anyway, so g3 is what mattered). Idk these days tho, Golgonda is strong and there are actually good players on stun, which I haven't seen happen b4.

I’m still coping with magic muskets runick- and I’m still (somehow) having fun. With a literal infinite grind game- and more than one way to activate my musket cards- with morganite I just have pure gas. Although- just because I have a favorable stun matchup doesn’t mean I enjoy it…
I lucked out getting my Branded core, a dude in a trade group I'm in asked if anyone had shinies from pokemon, I had like 210 from Sw/Sh. Traded them off for the branded core, some staples & an eldlich core
As someone who is trying to get into Yugioh at the moment stuff like this has made it really difficult. I hope soon the meta game becomes more accessible because of it doesn’t I might just have to leave the game before I really got to give it a fair chance.
It is like this every year and sometimes even multiple times a year sadly, last year was Kashtira and S:P Little Knight specifically. At this point just play Dueling Books or other auto-simulators, they're much much cheaper and you'd miss out on nothing.
This is the absolute worse time to get into paper Yugioh. I recommend using simulators, duelingnexus is an automated one and you can fight CPU’s so you don’t have to interact with toxic players, or duelingbook, Manuel with no vs cpu but theoretically has the best translation to paper since you have to manually learn timing and stuff, both of them have all cards in the game for free. Or of course master duel but it’s also in a tier 0 format and you’ll more than likely be pushed to spending money
You're better off sticking to playing what you think is fun among friends and possibly locals depending on who else plays there. Trying to keep up with the meta's higher tiers is just a hassle. At worst, just stick to Master Duel or another way to duel others online.
Okay all the doomers go crazy in these comments. Just the normal mbt shorts experience. But dont drop the game if you think its fun there are alot of good playable decks and engines around atm. Just pick up the staples from the rareity collection and a tier 2-3 deck you think is cool and go to your locals. Unless you local is super sweaty you will encounter more orcust and marincess brew then snake eyes and probly meet alot of new people👍🏽

They deserve it for not enabling older decks people spent money on. If they allow Kash and Tear to be at full power it would seem to be more balanced and the single card pricing wont be that big

What? The format is making people play more than one deck so they're not all mirror matches?!? How tragic... Tier 0 decks are bad when you think about it.. but what actually makes the format "bad" is that they're all stall and "no" decks... Might as well play solitaire since you can't play the game...
The problem isn't Snake-Eyes per say. Snake-Eyes in theory has an obvious weakness, no in-archetype Extra Deck monsters. The problem is that Extra Deck monsters are so generic now that every deck plays the same cards (Accesscode, SP, IP, the Nightmare's, Apollousa, the Charmer Links, Barrone, Borreload Savage, Summon Sorceress [of all the cards to unban and errata, why a generic Konami, why], to name a few). Those are the cards that need to be dealt with, take the extra deck away and Snake-Eyes is fine.

Kind of. The reprint policy now is much more lenient than it was, but the policy around short prints were never worse. Crush Card was almost $500, Dark Armed Dragon went up as far as $250, the D-Hero engine was over a hundred, and Emergency Teleport was $50. The former two were also prominent in Dark Armed Return a year prior so prices on it remained high for years. Even the gold rare DAD was anywhere from $50-100 when it came around.
It was THE most expensive format to date. 250 dollar DAD's, 40 dollar stratos, 60-70 for each malicious and each destiny draw, 30 for teleport 70 if you want ultimate, 50-60 secret grepher, crush card virus easily ran for 2-350, 40 dollar allures, etc
So more or less the TCG branch of Konami’s greed is ruining the format again? Shocker. If only we had the OCG rarity system, this could be entirely avoided.
In card games being able to top or even win tournaments with budget decks isnt a bad thing in fact it can show great deckbuilding strategies and overall skill playing the game. But uf a lot pf people cant even get close to playing the top deck because of insane prices that presentz a wild problem.
At least the anti-meta options this time have been SOMEWHAT working, and don't ALL rely on Shifter resolving if you're forced to go second. That was basically every game in Ishizu Tear format if you weren't on the deck. The anti-GY Shifter nonsense was what ultimately ruined that format even if it wasn't as successful as this Runick/Chain Burn/Jowgen Pass series of anti-meta options.
Even as a Snake eyes player i sincerely hate the state of the game with them. Add to the Generic boss monster problem YGO is just moreso about like you said, how much you spend, to end up on the same board as everyone
You know, I'm surprised that, with these kinds of problems happening more frequently in the last few years, that this game still has life in it in terms of competitive play.
Yeah it’s a pretty meh format right now, wouldn’t be surprised if more people started picking up labs or something having a lot of versatility depending on the future ban list to try and counter what they need.
I don't see it as a problem, everyone has been doing nothing more than complain about the tier zero format, now nobody is is playing the deck as much because of cost which now reverts back into a more variety format. People need to stop sheeping so mindlessly towards the next big deck so quickly and experiment with decks and I believe a message can be sent about it.
Why is Bonfire so expensive in the US? I can get them for 40 bucks here in Europe. Still expensive, but nowhere near the 120 per copy they ask over there.
Snake eye structure deck with bonfire. Problem solved. Added bonus: the more accessible the deck is, the more comfortable Konami will be with banning the heavier pieces after a short while... Maybe, honestly any prediction of how Konami would do anything runs face first into whatever the hell is going on in there.
I’m currently building the new Yubel deck after trying several decks with her in them and after finally finding a good deck that she works with she finally gets new support.
This current format has literally been turning me away from playing even at locals the past few months... because theres like. 5 people playing it at my place and just feels awful to play against.
I quite literally sat at a locals 2 nights ago glazed over for 2 of my three matches because I come there to have fun not to get ran over by fucking snake eye. The only reason I didn’t glaze over the 3rd match was because my opponent bricked PLAYING FUCKING SNAKE EYE. Of the literal 4 people there I was the only one playing anything different. That’s not fun. And most people are like myself and play to have fun. That’s the point of a hobby. Hence why I said fuck it and ordered literally all of a runick stun deck since I already had ghoti. Case in point fuck snake eye

Watch them ban all the Stun cards INSTEAD of hitting Snake-Eyes in any meaningful way. Granted, the Stun cards should probably be hit anyway, but still. Hitting only the budget option instead of the new stuff would be as scummy as banning Plant Synchro during Dino Rabbit format.
Yea... I will just continou playing master duel to play meta (already have a full snake eye deck with bonfire for 0 money). Only playing casual real life with traptrix or playing one piece tcg xD
My answer to most decks these days back row and field 2 chain energys,skill drain,solemn judgment,magic cylinders( lol it's op and very unexpected and you can run 3) field spell necrovalley to cut off gy so gotta pay 1000 to activate and summon and say your facing dangers chain energy will trigger twice as for monsters your mainly focusing on kaijus for your beat sticks and lava golems there's more to it but that's it on a basic level you can side in macro cosmos to be that guy lol
worst? this is good that people are dividing up and trying diff approaches and cards. Is a good format for you one where 50%+ is playing tier 0 and the other 49% is playing the same three tier 1 decks or some variations of them? that shits boring. variation and diversity is approaches and combos is what id attend events or click on videos to watch!
The only thing when it comes to snake-eye, I got the wanted engine for cheap when wanted was still 50 a piece and diabellstar was 20. I still only have the one engine plus a few of the other cards like Ash, Oak, and flameberge because I pulled most of it. But the only thing I use it in is my Volcanic deck or my T.G. Deck whenever I feel like it. Plus, I'm not gonna shovel out money for bonfire when I play Kashtira, which I already owned from that format. I may try the Volcanic at a regional after I get a few more things here and there for it, but other than that, my wanted engine basically is being used for giggles by this point 😅

The 25th anniversary set killed the high price of so many meta staples. And yet the game some got even more expensive. It's gotten so bad even magic is getting too expensive. What's next? Warhammer?
To be honest I thiink Flamberge Dragon effect of summoning 2 from grave is INSANE and truly what makes the deck. You just tutor out every single card you'd ever need with 1 card combos and then your snake is Res'ing every monster you put in the grave and diabellstar is milling its own engine, making you only draw handtraps and interruptions
Tbh, I dont hate snake eyes, I just hate how its dominated the meta and made it harder for people to compete if they arent rich. Burn and stun can work, but I feel like people shouldn't only have to have 2 or 3 other competitive options.
That's one of many reasons the game NEEDS floodgates. Imagine coming Back after a few years and seeing this degenerate combos. Just activate your floodgate of choice and play a duel that actually take more than 2-3 turns.
