The main point is, If I am playing a game in the Italian renaissance period, I want to step into the shoes of a suave Italian, when I play GTA/Blade/Moonwalker/Streets of Rage/DEF JAM Vendetta, I want to step into the shoes of that person, When I play Street Fighter and use Dahlsim or Blanka, I ... you guessed it, Want to step into their shoes. So when I play a game about a Samurai, I want to step into the shoes of a Honourable Japanese man meticulously working to perfection of his art, I don't need an obscure reference twist on a character who will "be a brawler" wearing heavy armour in an "ASSASIN'S creed" game, Could have been a Shinobi 🥷 . Imagine if "Revenge of Shinobi" had a basketballer with an afro, It wouldn't have felt right, But nobody had a problem with "Shaq-Fu" because the game world and feel were all built around those concepts. It is not racism for wanting to play a Japanese protagonist as a white male, just like it isn't sexist for me wanting to play Lara Croft in Lara Crofts Tomb raider, games are context and escapism, Not a permanent reminder of politics and the culture war.

The only thing I’m still upset about with Assassin’s Creed is the pulled the truly innovative and fun PVP after black flag, haven’t touched the franchise since. The pvp was in AC2, AC3, Revelations, etc.

I never heard any of this fake samurai topic until the Shadow trailer dropped. When people begin taking to those Cyber streets in protest in the guise of preserving the integrity of something that existed before it translates to “Okay when I like it but not when x does it”. This blew my mind when Black Panther’s Wakanda was criticized for being this high tech monarchy when Asgard in Thor was depicted years earlier. Enjoy the content and if not, vote with your dollar 🤷. Save the hooked rope and ballistae for something actually worth fighting.

It's a game. Play it or don't. Ubisoft needs to chill on the price tag of these games though. That's worth being upset over.

I loved this video man. I find the mental gymnastics that people play to be quite hilarious. I would love to know how consistent these keyboard historian's logic is tbh. I first played as Yasuke a few years back in Samurai Warriors 5. If Koei Tecmo was fine with declaring him a Samurai then so should everyone in the West. People just need to stop trying to camouflage their outrage and just flat out wear the sandwich board that Bruce Willis was forced to wear in Die Hard 3. I like the idea of taking creative liberties with Yasuke, a guy with little known factual history and adding a fictional twist with him being an Assassin and maybe having a part in how certain historical events panned out. I’m also excited to see which famous Samurai and Ninja show up in the game. The trailer showed the Takeda forces and the female character is from the Iga clan so I’m hoping to see if Hanzo Hattori shows up in any way.

his story is interesting cause the only peoples who could have a personal sword were samurais and nobles, which he had and the only way someone would be gifted a home would need to be a samurai and decedents of samurais in japan have commented that he would be considered a samurai and most peoples in japan arent even angry.

They said yasuke never fought in the war which was a lie. He fought nobunaga's enemy shortly before he died.

My only outrage came from watching the developer video and hearing the two people constantly pronounce his name as “Ya-Sue-Kay”. I really hope all the voice actors don’t butcher his name throughout the game 😂.

It's irrelevant whether Yasuke was only a retainer or a samurai. He was Nobunaga's sword bearer - thats not a low position. He was clearly respected. The point is that during that period the few foreignrs that were allowed in Japan where under strict supervision and the idea that a giant black warrior is freely roaming around smashing Japanese left and right is a historicaly inaccurate joke. But it's fiction so who cares right? The point is that by finally setting AC in Japan and not choosing a Japanese male samurai or ninja/shinobi (a female ninja would be called kunoichi) Ubisoft gave a giant middle finger to Japan. One of my favorite comments on this: "Ubisoft has done the impossible, unite the Koreans, Chinese and Japanese" The trailers of the game in those 3 countries leave no room for doubt. The ratios are all negative.

This isn't about the damn game. Its the social engineering. Funny how every gaming site, page, article, group all claim the same thing that he was in fact a samurai, citing all the same weak sources. Everyone who’s part of the outrage over this hasn’t done any or enough research or they’re just on the bandwagon. Thank you for not being one of them. Mirage was developed by a smaller Ubi support studio. It wasn’t one of the larger ones. But I agree it wasn’t up to par. Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla were good in my opinion.
