The negativity around the Jordan mids definitely revolves around the underlying elitist mindset and exclusivity in the sneaker/streetwear scene nowadays. With most Jordan 1 highs/lows being hyped or hard to purchase, those who end up buying them have either paid a lot of money or have committed a lot of effort. When they see others buying mids which are readily available (albeit in different colours), those with highs/lows look down on the mids and associate them with people who don't know much about sneakers or streetwear. That's a sad trend in streetwear over the last couple of years with people trying to flex on each other over social media and showing how much they know about the scene or how much they spend on shoes.
All the nice color ways for 1 mids on the main shoe retailer sights are usually sold out now too along with lows and highs. Kinda glad they did this video because I was curious what peoples specific reasons were for not liking them.
I think Chris from Weartesters explained that Michael Jordan actually used to rock mids/swapped out for mid during games, but it wasn’t well documented because of camera quality back then and people couldn’t tell the difference. It was a comfort/performance issue for him.
Your comment should have way more likes just for the Chris from WearTesters name drop! Dude is an OG in the sneaker community. His knowledge is almost unmatched on RU-vid
@@KingMathers He didn’t rock mids *as we know them today* as in their shape & cut. But generally speaking, he sometimes preferred to wear slightly lower cut Jordan 1’s that were considered mids. And yes, I’m aware it still had the Nike Air logo as the Jumpman logo wasn’t featured on a Jordan model until the 3’s and weren’t featured on mids until later retros of the 1’s. I never insinuated that he’d have rocked “todays AJ1 mids” as that wouldn’t make chronological sense with production date.
Lyna answered the question lol. Y'all are groupies for hype shoes. If Kanye or Jerry Lorenzo said mids were in yall would be rocking them ASAP. I couldn't imagine if Travis Scott started wearing them lol. You all would change your opinion yesterday.
@@tvisionary9024 the AJ1 highs and miss are pretty much identical, whereas the FOG 1s are noticeably different from the FOG Raids, Mocs, and shoot arounds. Guarantee if there was AJ1 mid with, say, a Travis Scott collab, people would eat it up.
If you grew up in NYC in the late 90's then you probably had those NYC Mid AF1's. Mids are considered trash now because the game is full of corny, trend following hypebeasts.
Agree with Lyna, just bullies and resellers that hate on mids to keep people spending more $$$ and making them sales, and newbies to the shoe game just jump on the hating bandwagon because social media tells them to
French blue mids and the hyper royals the ones that they had in the beginnin of the video (black back not the ones with blue lace eyelets) are two examples of kuu mids I was stuck workin in Texas when I decided 1s are 1s at the end of the day
I've been saying this for a while. I drip. And I own some shit none of these guys even mention. I had mids before the Fear mids. Some SB dunk mids are fire too. Look at the up coming one.
It's interesting how the 1st and last questions are related: resellers not caring if they mess up the culture and resellers hating on mids bc they don't resale for as much.
Fuck the hypebeasts. One person argues on here saying mids arent dope because Jordan never wore them on the court. He didnt wear lows on the court so wheres the hate? Hypebeasts 🙃
Here is the thing re: Jerry Lorenzo vs Kanye... Kanye has way more shoe/sneaker innovation/expertise.. . Jerry has built MUCH more apparel expertise in the last 5 years (even though Kayne may have started earlier). His 7th collection blending men's wear and street wear... chefs kiss.
"Rock what you like not what's hype". Like who cares what people think??? How old are y'all? Lol I wear highs, lows, and mids. Tan stays trashing mids but as soon as he sees the resell he quickly changes his mind. Dude is a 🤡
I rock everything.. If I look good i feel good, doesn't matter high mid's lows, real or replicas. I don't care! I do it cause I look fly not for what people think.. I'm never going to see these people ever again, so why waste my energy trying to impress people that are going to hate. Live your life for you, not for others. Fashion shouldn't be about hype, it should be about your personality your character.. Show the people who you are through your threads and sneakers.
For so many people who bash the Jordan 1 mids they seem to sell out almost every time. I'm a og at age 51 and I have been wearing Jordan's since I bought my first pair back in 1985. Love the og highs and mids but not a fan of the lows. But that's what makes it so great that we have all these free choices.
@@stephenross710 😂😂 I almost forgot them they the worst when it come to following the leader haha people will literally do anything to have some attention haha
@@prodigy9885 I really don’t see how it is. If you hit on a shoe and wanna sell it cool. It’s one shoe. You entered and won a single shoe. Not 30. Also, if I buy a shoe that I think looks dope, get it, and I hate it, I don’t think it’s wrong to resell it. If I got a homie who wants it I’d probs plug them but saying that reselling one pair vs 10-30 pairs as the same is just ridiculous to me
Them replicas are like 1:1 now. As long as you’re not gonna resell em as “real” then yes those are perfect. You get a price that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and you get the look you want. Don’t see how anyone can care so much about what others are wearing anyways
I wear reps all day for that exact reason I can get the Travis Scotts for $110 instead of $1200 and they look the exact same so not only do I get the same shoe I still have money to get other stuff 😂 win win no one's ever said ayy bro those are fake
@@fuckyoutube1999 lol you asking dumb questions bro 😂 like you either the feds or you really want some reps either way giving up my plug not going to happen haha no disrespect but RU-vid has lots of videos on where to get them
Replicas are imo the best option out. I can buy a pair of sneakers reselling for $700 for less than retail and wear them without worrying about beating them up. It's a no brainer.
best quote: "if you're not trying to sell 'em its ok". People that hate reps the most are the resellers. ...and some of the mids are fire, but the biggest issue is the materials are usually shit.
I remember my bday my mum bought me a pair of mids and I rock them to school just to get teased at school but they don't know money don't grow on trees so whatever u have just appreciated it man
You guys have fully committed to a scalper market. Anything new or hype gets sold out instantly. And now scalpers move on to new markets like gpus and consoles. People are too brain dead to stop themselves from buying the new sneaker of the week at resale to the point that y’all are buying shoes with fake leather at 5x-10x market price. Congrats
In the UK the sneaker culture has changed so much over the years. 5 years ago you would not have not seen a single person in high tops because I feel like people over here didn’t want to jump on the “USA high top” wave lol. I also feel like that’s still applicable. In the UK everyone wears mids and highs because that’s all you can get over here and you can go into JD Sports or footlocker and pick up a pair of mids
No cap bruv I lived there 10 years ago and it used to be vans and boat shoes people would get clowned wearing high tops. I use to walk out of JD with a pair of Lacoste trainers thinking how much drip I just got 😂
I rock with mids cuz I don't hate on anyone spending $115 minimum on a sneaker! Replicas same thing but they gotta be good because you gotta do the brand justice that your ripping off! If there booty replicas then I don't agree. Jerry Lorenzo is the man!
IMO as far as Reps goes, if someone don’t pass them off as authentic I’m all for it. But you do have people who do try to pass it off as authentic and that’s why a lot of people are against it.
How can you not hate resellers (if you’re not one of em) we paying crazy prices for normal quality sneakers + the moneys not going to the brand or designer but to some annoying dude
I understand where your coming from, but why would you want to give a million dollar corporation more money when you could be giving your money to that “annoying dude” who probably just needs extra money? That sounds dumb to me.
@@prodigy9885 that big corporation is the one providing you with what you love (the sneakers) while the reseller is just a middle dude making money off your back when you should be able to get that pair for whatever price the producer sold it for
I love how people say they hate resellers and they wish there were gone, well then say good bye to every shop like flight club, cool kicks and rif la, all staples in the sneaker community
without resellers those wouldnt need to be around because so many more people would be able to get there hands on sneakers and the people who didnt could always find them somewhere else im sure new companys would come in and start a place like stock x,goat, flight club etc where people go to buy shoes although it wouldnt rlly be needed as so many people would be able to get there hands on them
If it’s a resell sneaker store I can see why too though. They usually want to push the more popular and more expensive pairs since it’s usually more profitable.
Just a quick reminder, Michael Jordan hated the AJ1 cause it was too tall and he had custom mid AJ1s on for his games. Soooo the GOAT himself liked mids ✌🏼
Mids hate is something that is definitely a big social thing. If you wear them you'll be teased kinda thing. But it started out by people/older sneaker heads only wanting true to the OG models. Only og colourways and have to have that Nike air on there. The cut doesn't matter cause if you showed someone the DMP 1s they would say they're fire even though that cut is a mid. It's all a bit messy. But you CAN be a sneakerhead and like/own/rock mids. Just because there's a self imposed negative connotation with a pair of shoes doesn't change anything if YOU like them. Tiktok has changed the outlook on mids and lows too. And pushed them to not only sell out instantly but resell for heaps too. Proving that old mentality of keeping it OG doesn't matter to the majority. If the colours are nice and the popularity and demand is there people will buy them but also love them. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Reseller here. A lot of people I sell a shoe to it's because the shoe is sold out locally and sometimes entirely for older shoes. So I look at it as providing a service. Online ordering for sold out items they cant acquire. And if they really want it they'll pay more. Resell is all about supply and demand.
I bet they were saying the same thing back when dunks weren’t popping🤦🏽♂️ They are gonna be sick when travis drops a mid and then they are gonna be “fire” followers man 😭
….cause this generation grew to be more insecure what others think. Just like UAs are made from same factory and look very much alike to “retail” nowadays.
@@Kicks80 UAs being the same as authentic shoes is also not true. There is a certain stylecode for reps which can be highlighted via black light for example
@@stev9155 retails and UAs aren’t all created equally. I’ve seen plenty of retails pair from Foot Locker looking weird AF. Glue stains..thick toe box…shoe boxes are off color etc. Funny how some insecure people don’t talk about it.
Some folks hate Mids? That’s their opinion and their opinion is none of my business. I personally love the wearability, affordable cost, colorway and perfect height for my ankle on the Mids. (And yes, the compliments that go along wearing them, that’s always a plus)
Wear whatever you love, like and choose….Hype is an illusion too many people buy into for “What Ever Reason”….wear your sneakers and live with the results, Be Original
I have been rocking J's since 85 in 5th grade, I wear what I want and what I like...I like Mids and Highs, not huge on lows but wear what you like, not what others say is "cool"
Highs over mids. Mids are good for kids and if you don’t wanna spend a lot but still rock some style. What Jerry Lorenzo is doing is average when it comes to product but genius at marketing and delivery. Replicas 🚫. Replicas in any industry are a negative. Resellers are both good and bad, they drive the market, but what damages the culture is the bots. Can’t wait for more 🤙
