I think that the most important thing when designing an open world is making the world itself another character in the story. In Yakuza or Red Dead, the map feels like it has history, mystery, and anything can happen in that space. When it is just a feature or a device to pad out a game, things can get really lame. As seen in games like Forspoken and Assassin’s Creed. Rad video, congrats on making partner.
Thank you so much! That’s a great way to put it that the open world needs to be a character in itself. There is no life if it’s simply the same task over and over again. As always we appreciate the chat and feedback!
i think in the end it boils down to execution, and few really gets it done right. a world that we wanna explore, but that it feels reasonable and with purpose. least that's how i feel. i'm at the point where the world exploring in totk just feels meh once you hit the towers and got a lot of shrines. sometimes simpler is better imo
Exploring with a purpose! Thats a great way to put it. Yeah and at that rate I can see it getting repetitive as much as there is innovation to the environment.
yess they're so overwhelming sometimes, often usually due to WAY TOO MANY QUESTS and tasks and if you finish one, you immediately have another. And it really doesn't feel like there's an endpoint sometimes. thanks for talking about this!
It’s just all filler to to be honest and I wish there were more innovation to these side quests! Doing menial task doesn’t make me feel invested with the game and I feel like I’m just wasting my time 😅 Thank you so much for watching our video! 💛
Genshin ruined open world games for me. I haven't played any of this type of game in 2 years because I still feel burnt out, but I think it's also because I haven't seen a good game of this type in a while.
I can totally agree with you! Genshin burnt me out after full exploration of the game despite their updates. I’m just taking my time with these games now with no rush 😄
