As a Canadian expat who much, MUCH prefers Croatia, I'm with you 100%. When in Canada I cannot wait to return home to Croatia. Another Croatian in diaspora, living in LA for over two decades and dreaming of the day when I'll be packing my things for good. Yes, corruption exists everywhere, but the level of crime, insecurity, and homelessness here is unreal and steadily getting worse. I was born in Germany, grew up in Croatia, and now half of my life in LA. While yes, there are things that can certainly be improved in Croatia, there's way more to fix in the US. We have been visiting the North of Croatia for over 20 years and have owned a house (kucha) for 10 years, 2 years ago we applied for and received a right to reside which is valid for 10 years and renewable after that or the opportunity to apply for citizenship. As we are both retired and represent no financial burden on the state, we dont try and exploit the tourist industry and as such we are left alone to live a peaceful life. Whilst not the cheapest place to live the quality of food is exceptional the health care superb and in line with the NHS but with no abuse that the UK system suffers from. In general we love it and are considering making the permenant change when the chance comes.

Hi, I've been watching your videos. My parents are Croatian. I grew up in New Zealand and have been living in Melbourne, Australia for the last 20 yrs. I hate it here, everything has gone to the shit, I agree with all you are saying and I constantly dream of living in Croatia. My mum lives alone in NZ. My dad lives in Podgora with his new family, which is near Makarska in Dalmacija. We went last year for a trip and loved it. When i come back I feel miserable here downunder (Melbourne had the most lockdowns in the world btw).... Over there you feel like you are truly living life. I felt like the Adriatic sea was so therapeutic. From the skywhen you fly in Croatia is beautiful, I feel its calling me 'home', its the closest to 'home' my soul could know. Here you feel suppressed in the matrix. I've been super awake and aware for a really long time, including spiritually, I totally know what's going on and I appreciate your videos. Dusan, my name is Jay, I was born in china, but living in USA for 24 years already and I am US citizen. I Went to Croatia couple weeks before for my vacation and I completely fall in love with your country specific natural beauty and safety. Just like UK, US is crazy now. I am also US military retired and my retired pay is around $3000. So I am interesting to move to Croatia for better quality of life just like you. I looked at internet and found out the house price in Croatia is almost same as US, however, the average of Croatian salary is 3 times lower than American. So, I am just curious how Croatian able to survive? Is most of Croatian can’t afford their own house? Also, another strange thing I find out that the housing rent price is much lower than US. A lot of people said Croatia is a country good to visit, but rough to live. Is this true? Is this because I only look at split, Hvar and Dubrovnik, other place may be cheaper? My goal is to buy a house in split or other neighbor island, buy a fancy boat to run my own tourist business. Please give me some advice. Thank you so much.

There are many reasons but the US specifically, has many positives but the negatives are quite harsh. Gun Violence would be number 1 and the general disregard for your neighbor. Secondly, if somebody has a home in the US or Canada, and is able to sell for a great price...why not? 3rd, if you have earned a pension in the US or Canada, you'll make more than the average person working in Croatia....you only live once anyways so enjoy!!!

I wanted out of the U.S. as a 15yr old, back in the 1960's. Because it was very obvious to me, watching all the adults around me very closely, seeing how unhappy, angry, depressed they were, I could never understand how they could keep saying, we live in the greatest country in the world, everyone wants to live here. I thought to myself, they really don't realize, the lies, illusions they are living. Or do, and push it all aside, as this is the only country they have. So must stuck with it no matter how bad it gets. I didn't want to live my life that way. I also have a moral compassion that most Americans lack. So, they are fine screwing each other, and anyone abroad to get ahead. After visiting more than thirty countries, living in some long term, I decided to settle in the Balkans. This region fits my personality the best, why I'm so happy, and content!

i just wanted to give a headsup to anyone moving to Croatia from bigger cities ect. I was born and raised in Croatia, but lived in many countries in my twenties and come from a well off educated family...i have found myself living on one of the Croatian islands during covid and as a Croatian i was shocked at what i have went through from the locals. If you are choosing a place to live and have never lived here or spent short amonuts of time please do not idealize it. The small towns and villages during the summer as a tourist are cute but living there among the locals the whole year is something else. Many locals are extremely narrow minded, very mean and do not like foreigners outside of tourists giving them money. One quarter of Croaita lives in Zagreb and even for us locals in the south are crazy. What they sell you in the summer is not who they are. They do not see you as an equal, they will try and scam you in anyway possible. They are very agressive and behave like tribes. Be careful when choosing a place and my adivce is to stick to bigger cities and north in general as the quality of life is better. The coast is ok in the summer for two months but you will see that for other ten months you are stuck at a remote place with people that are hostile and will not accept you while pretenting to be friendly and trying to scam you for money or clout. Its a different mentality. They are cruel to animals and have not developed culturally since the time your gradparents left. Many of the diaspora had to leave certain places due to hostility, and political reasons and ask your family before going back why they left. Life in Croatia is great,Zagreb, parts of Istria, Rijeka are all cool...south is for vacation and summer trips. You will get dissapointed since on the coast in small towns there is corruption and a lot of jelaousy towards people of higher status. Before investing spent time in a place but as a Croatian from Zagreb with a lot of international experience and american diploma i have roots in the south after what i went through i would not reccomend living there to anyone long term. this applies to all places between Split and Dubrovnik and especially the islands! People there are savage and do not let their nice houses that they built in the last few years convince you otherwise. Read up on the history of what happened in many places after the ww2 and why many of your families were forced to leave. Many horrific crimes happened and no one was held responsible and their children are still alive and think the same. Stick to big cities and Zagreb. I welcome you back home, we have been waiting on your return 🎉🎉🎉

@@Dusan.Grujic i m sorry it makes you uncomfortable but for most its not a reminder but something they live with and struggle every day of their life… i have been through war and so have Many others…pretending it didn’t happen will not help but rather encouraging those responsible to take responsability and get punished as Well as learning what lead to it while respecting the sorrow, pain and trauma that Many experienced…we cannot escape the past…that the is only formula for repeating it…i would also feel very uncomfortable living in Serbia knowing that literal murderers who commited disgusting crimes are walking around free…women in Vukovar meet their agressors on the street daily…its not your fault, its not my fault and we had no part in any of it…i was a child…but i know the only Way forward is truth, justice, acountability and forgivness for all involved…yet those simple steps are still being blocked…i watched what happened in rawanda after the war…all who commited any crimes were encouraged to admit guilt…they served up to ten years in prison and afterwards had to go back to the villages where they comitted crimes and ask for forgivness from families those they harmed…many now live together in peace…and Rwanda is the most advance country in Africa…everyone wants forgivness but would skip the necessary steps Like accountability and repentance…and this is where we have a problem! I send you love and blessings brother, dont be angry about things you have no control over, pray to God that all affected find peace and pray for the men that were kids then that did these crimes that destroyed their souls to find God and ask for forgivness…remember there is no justification for attacking civilians, women or Children…Zero…on all sides…and who ever did it is personally responsible as Well as all who justify it…i m not a nationalist…i just stand for the truth and justice and all sides as any real human does…❤️🙏

I like the fact you came to Croatia and it makes me happy people from other parts of the world build their new home here. But I do take issue with you propagating corruption as something positive just because in Croatia everyone has access to it. Corruption is not a public utility and it makes a lot of people here sick to the stomach what people can get away with due to corruption. There are parts of Croatia where you can't build a house without paying off the right people. You should have made a firm stand in your video against corruption instead of painting it in nice colours. I have a feeling this wasn't your intention, but a lot of us are sensitive to corruption because there is too much of it and it is perceived as #1 reason we are not progressing as much as we should, both economically and as a society in general.
@Dusan.Grujic
@Dusan.Grujic Год назад
Hey, Im sorry about that. I am against it, but I came to the realisation that actually its only accessible for the people on top in other countries and when i thought about it that way then it makes sense for people to have it too. I had one time where a parking guy waited for me at the parking. he said he was waiting to see 'what we can do' instead of slapping a fine on. to be honest I would only be happy to give him a coffee for not fining me 30 euro. I guess this is a good case scenaruio but obviously there are alot of other cases which are not like this.

In some ways coming from UK to Croatia was like moving back in time but I'm OK with that. I've not tried to start a business here but I'm pretty sure it is harder than starting a business in UK. I had hoped I would meet someone with whom I could create a partnership where I provide the technical knowhow and they handle the paperwork and interaction with customers, suppliers etc. That didn't happen and I'm now so close to pension age that it is not worth bothering. In UK I had a sole trader business and it was extremely easy to set up.

I wanted to retire in Croatia, unfortunately it's now far too expensive. Once they adopted the Euro, prices skyrocketed and I do not own property in Canada so I wouldn't have the kind of cash required to buy property in Croatia. Property in Croatia is being scooped up by the wealthy, which is driving the prices up and is hurting local Croatians which is why the young are leaving the country. The Canadian dollar against the Euro means our standard of living would be worse in Croatia than it is here. As for your woke comment - woke means NOT being a racist, bigot...very disappointing to see so many young people adopting Nazi values under the guise of 'freedom'. Diversity is what has kept the human race going and advancing, inbreeding is a dead end.

Your wokeism is destroying Europe and other western countries. The third world’s that enter the countries have not adapted how to live there or function in society. If you think that these people aren’t the problem then you are delusional. The reason why Croatia is attractive is because it is one of the last European countries which is a Christian god fearing country. Which makes it a safe and beautiful place to live. Sounds like you’d be better off in Canada with the woke movement. And see for yourself how your country will and already has fallen apart. Woke culture is destroying everything. Pozdrav.

There is a huge difference if you are living in Canada or USA! Europe has a huge problem with illegal migration right now. I would never ever move to Europe at this moment. Living in a country like Croatia is not sitting in a café and having a holiday feeling, you need to work, earn money, pay rent, visit a doctor, go to school, college etc, and live like the Croatians do. This romantic idea just to move to a country, that you visited once or twice, is not a good idea.

The way of life far exceeds that in Canada on nearly every level (except wages). Absolutely no comparison. We have no family in Croatia but it is home and where we belong. My opinion, of course, but it's the same story for 100% of the foreigners we know living in Croatia. And we know MANY. We can't all love the same thing.
