End homophobia, racism, sexism, and all discrimination in sports. On the field, it shouldn't matter who you are, it's how you play.

No, not all Christians are total homophobics. The problem is that there are people who use Christianity as an excuse to be a homophobic.

Jesus Christ, yes, I'm literally not even allowed to play on my school's sports teams because I'm trans. I can't play on the girls' team because I'm "confused and could become a dangerous influence" and I'm not allowed to play on the boys' team because I'm not "really male." There are no sports in my area which allow multiple genders on the same team or even in the same league. So even though I'm a good runner and I'd love to do track ... I just can't. According to the statement released by my district early last year, "gender is not a fluid concept." I can't play sports, use bathrooms or locker rooms, or change my name on the roster. I can't even get medicine from the nurse's office because I haven't had a formal medical exam because thy won't let me have one. AGH. I hate crap like that.

It sucks that you have to go through with that, and the entire issue doesn't make sense either. Why are teams being based by gender when at the end of the day, skills and talents and abilities are key? Gender shouldn't matter, because with training, it won't exactly impact your abilities. Fine, maybe a bit biologically, but...last I checked, training and environment and life choice and all does more to help than gender alone, more by a longshot. I do hope things have gotten better by now at least :)

I'm a Transguy and I wanted to do some sort of sport, most of them being 'male' sports because I'm a boy. I was always taught I could not do it because I was a 'girl'. I always wanted to play American football but I was told that I wasn't allowed to. Instead I was told that I had to play volleyball or some other sort of female only sport. I was taught that I was weak and wouldn't be able to actually compete with the other guys. This is kind of upsetting to me to look back on.

This hits me hard because I am a female lacrosse and football player. Yes, lacrosse isn't an attractive sport because we wear mouth guards and goggles unlike other sports like volleyball where we can look cute while playing it. I considering myself a very social person so once I made the varsity team as a freshmen rumors spread about me and I tried to not be affected by it because hey! I was the first female player to make varsity as a freshmen at my school. And at my schools football games the announcer and the "fanatics" (aka "fans") always recognizes me and my team helps me feel accepted. No. actually, in the same way many animals reproduce by changing from male to female, where the male is the one to carry the fertilized eggs to term during the pregnancy, and same sex pairings take places, humans simply reflect the same sexual diversity found within nature. The simple truth is, organized faith has brainwashed humanity into willful ignorance by convincing us to give up our capacity for logic and reason by giving our matters regarding morality and ethics to a mostly illiterate culture from 2,000+ years ago. It is however obvious from your comment that, you prefer to ignore the consensus among today's mental health experts who agree that being LGBT isn't a form of body dismorphia or other mental illness, but would prefer to believe those among the faithful who need a group to label outcasts and as evil to try and declare themselves as the righteous by default rather then as the result of any good deeds. This demonization is so powerful much like the way other groups like the Jews have been demonized and thus hated and persecuted through history, to the point that even some ignorant individuals without faith will discriminate and hate people who are Jews, so too are some homophobes non-religious. You are simply the product of generations of brainwashing, so educate yourself so you can start thinking for yourself.

I am a female and I love sports so much!! In our school we have two p.e lessons a week, one is separated in to boys and girls and the other is mixed. Also at the end of each term we have this thing called multi sports, where we are split into mixed teams. During both multi sports and mixed lessons the girls of he group are over looked. All the boys dominate the sport. It annoys me because it doesn't mean I push myself or enjoy it. It means the boys get good grades and the girls get told off for 'chatting' but actually the boys don't give us a chance. When we were doing hockey, I got myself out there and worked with the boys, one of them even said I was the best. It made me feel as if I'd actually achieved something in my p.e lesson. However, when it's just girls, alot of them just act silly or scared of the ball. Which annoys me because I know they can do it, they just don't. They have this image that they think they have to portray which is that females don't do sport and they stay home, look pretty, look after the children, cook and clean. Which irritates me so much!!

BlueBell I went on exchange to Germany and we played volleyball, which I love. We had mixed teams but I hardly ever got a chance to hit the ball cause the boys would just pass it to each other and take over. Yes some girls wouldn't want to participate but they didn't even let us try if we were willing. It was crazy to me since I'd come from an all girls school in Australia where everyone would join in.

I'm Irish and it's way different here. Most of The girls are into sport. Actually The boys and girls are into sport pretty equally. Some guys don't like it and some guys do like it, some girls don't like it and some girls do like it. Obviously the guys are better because of the advantages of being a guy, but you do see some girls who are amazing at sport and are better than some of The guys. I lived in Wales for three years and all The girls were prissy little assholes only doing sports like dancing and stuff. Ireland is pretty advanced this way.
@FLIPPYNMADZ
@FLIPPYNMADZ 9 лет назад

I just want to offer my opinion. [I really don't want to offend anyone] I get pressured a LOT because I wear make up. Every single girl in my class says that I'm conforming to social stereotypes. They tell me to 'be a feminist'. If going to rallies every month isn't 'being a feminist' you tell me what is. So, in my opinion, society today is pressuring girls to be more strong and independent. Not that 'girly-girl' who runs around all day in a skirt giggling. But yeah, my opinion. No hate pls.

I used to be really good at basketball. I used to be able to score a three pointer without even thinking about it, and I would play with the boys that lived on my street. But as I got older, they began to see me more as a girl, rather than just another friend to hang out with. This made playing "boy sports" such as basketball way harder to do. I ended up giving up and now I've lost my edge (probably because of the lack of confidence). I hate how people treat others differently just because of one specific aspect of their life, especially when it has nothing to do with whatever they are doing at the time. I have tried to start playing again, and tried and get back to where I was, but it's so difficult to be confident about who you are and who you want to be when you are judged on everything you do just because of your gender/race/sexual orientation/etc.

I'm trans (FtM) and pansexual. I don't really like sports all that much, but I do play Varsity tennis at my high school. We have one team made up of both girls and guys, and we have girls' singles and doubles, guys' singles and doubles and a mixed doubles pair. I'm not out as trans at school, but I feel included the way the tennis team is set up. We're all at the same matches, cheering each other on.

In regard to the broadcasting of different sports, its not so much about any discrimination necessarily, its pretty much entirely about money. They will broadcast what they know will get the most views. Thats why WNBA, Womens Soccer, Volleyball, Softball, etc.. dont get much air time. If you want them to get played more then more people have to watch them.

You know, I never thought about that. It's very true. I personally identify as a straight cisgender female (still kinda debating the straight part, but I'm fairly certain.) I'm not too into sports, but I do enjoy them. I play softball casually and swim during the summer. I have no desire to pursue anything athletic later in life, so I don't feel under represented, but I do know that practically all sports playing on TV are men, especially straight men. I was really happy when I saw the women's World Cup on TV, but still slightly pissed off that it wasn't nearly as much of a big deal as any men's sports. I just think everyone should be represented in all fields. I want to be a scientist, so I look at influential female scientists. There aren't all that many though. But that doesn't deter me, I just want to prove any sexist person wrong. You guys are an inspiration as well. Keep doing what you're doing!!!

A few things... Firstly I'm a younger straight male who has played sports for a while, so I'm familiar with this topic. There were a few things that I think need to be included in this discussion. 1. Another issue that plagues sports is lack of education (teaching kids that there are lots of kinds of people) at younger ages. I think many people have a problem with homophobia in sports because they 'fear' being 'hit on' by their team mates. I think that with contact sports there is a belief that LGBTQ individuals will find enjoyment from the 'contact' aspect to of the sport, and this makes some people uncomfortable. 2. Along the lines of professional sports being male dominated, it's kind of weird that you don't see people wearing the sports jerseys of professional female athletes, (yes there are always exception but in general) For example, after the women's World Cup (a big stride for women's sports and soccer in America) I though how cool it would be to have a Lloyd jersey, and then it struck me that a guy wearing a jersey for a professional female athlete is something I've never seen. Ever. It would be so cool if kids idols didn't have to be their same gender (in general they are)

To claim those who do not agree with your version of morals or your lifestyle has a "phobia" is just flat out disingenuous - it's just a way to silence the opposition to promote homosexuality by using hate against those who are against it. In the end it's God we'll have to face and He's the one we'll have to convince He's got a "phobia" rather than the truth that such behavior is a sin like so many other behaviors. Live forever!
@ForumLight
@ForumLight 9 лет назад
***** So in other words your only response is to hatefully attack Christianity. You just proved my point.
@losgryfog
@losgryfog 9 лет назад
ForumLight Right, but most people DO have phobias. Nowhere in the bible does it tell any human, to speak out against, object to, or seek to stop other people. It solely says god is to judge, not man.
@ForumLight
@ForumLight 9 лет назад
losgryfog It's not "judging" to point out to someone who ADMITS to running red lights to point out that when the law catches up with them they'll get in trouble - that's called being a friend. It would be hateful to instead say "Don't worry about it - run all the red lights you want you will never get in trouble" 2 Timothy 4:1-4 *"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; (2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."* So you have a phobia towards Christians?
@ForumLight
@ForumLight 9 лет назад
losgryfog Yes, and the laws of men will point out we will judge those who run red lights. So again, if someone ADMITS to running red lights, it's not judging them to help them by reminding them when the law catches up with them, they'll get in trouble - that's called being a true friend: truly caring about them. That's not juduging them, that's not condemning them - God will do that. It's warning them what God will do about what they ADMIT they do. So in response they can only say "you have a phobia", which is disingenuous, let alone judging, which is ironic. Rebuke comes from the Greek word epitimaō, which means to tax upon, that is, censure or admonish; by implication forbid: - (straitly) charge, rebuke. Exhort comes from the Greek word parakaleō, which means to call near, that is, invite, invoke (by imploration, hortation or consolation): - beseech, call for, (be of good) comfort, desire, (give) exhort (-ation), intreat, pray

I've met people who right comments like this before, putting no argument or hate and seem like they speak bible grammar. Can't really debate or argue there's is 0 point to. Also just here to state that "phobia" doesn't necessarily means fear, Other phobias like xenophobia (I think) is basically racism. Racism isn't a fear. See? However homophobia means you hate, discriminate no accept (etc) homosexuals. The reason why you hate or your against it doesn't really have to do with why. It doesn't matter your reasoning it's a *term* used to describe people who hate homosexuals or what ever reasons. So just passing by and saying hello. Have a nice day c:

I am from South Africa and am attending a university at the moment. There recently was a case where a transegender girl wasn't allowed to play sport because there aren't any clear rules for transegender players. The same girl had gone through a few similar situations and ended up attempting to commit suicide because of these situations, and obviously other reasons. In her suicide note she wrote about the people who denied her the opportunity to participate in certain events in the university. Even though the LGBT community in South Africa is starting to be more accepted acedimic and sports institutions still do not know how to handle them. The surprising thing for me is that there was no press involved and many people in the university itself did not even know about the incident. No one is making the public aware of these situations and I think that's one of the biggest problems.

I'm a girl and i finally found a sport I love and want to do in the long run, it's powerlifting and it's mostly considered a mans sport. Most of the people thought I was going to become like a man with big muscles, my parents didn't like it and they still don't for many reasons, some of them being the reason everyone said and also they thought it wasn't for a girl. My boyfriend at the time was competing at that sport so I went with him to the gym to work cardio and legs...the only thing that is considered to be for a girl in a gym. I started learning more about powerlifting and I was impressed, now I have the support of only my few friends, and most of them think I am to weak and not meant to lift heavy weights. Well with every workout I prove them wrong. Do what makes you happy, no matter what are other people's opinions.

Being a transboy, I hate public bathrooms and locker rooms. As you can probably imagine, changing from a binder to a sports bra in a locker room full of (likely) straight cis boys is nerve-racking to say the least. I usually use the women's room for that reason and always get strange looks until I take off my shirt. Luckily, my sport of choice, if you could call it that, is marching band, and we are a pretty tight knit group with plenty of queer people. To my knowledge, there are no other trans people in my band, but there are some non binary people who always are willing to help each other out. I'm not often teased, but I am misgendered a lot, which can sometimes hurt just as much, especially if the person who misgendered me is a person I came out to.

I mean my dad loves Indy car racing and I can't watch it because there never is a female on the track. In the regards of the "girls being told they can't play sports" thing, once during P.E. me and a couple of other girls (I'm nb but I'm not expecting the school to even realise that exists) wanted to play something similar to rugby but with a normal circular ball and no throwing people on the ground. One girl said "But that's a boys' sports! We can't play that!" and she looked absolutely shocked that we even had the idea that we could do such a thing. When I told her how bs that statement was, she continued with "What? There's sports for men, jobs for men, where do you live?" The fuck.

being in "feminine" sports as an elementary school girl - Ice Skating and Ball dancing, I remember our teams consisting of 90%-100% girls. Boys didn't want to go because being in such a girly sport would mean being teased, bullied, and even beaten. Its time all sports stop with gender stereotyping, and let people and especially kids, do what they enjoy most, without the fear of being an outcast.

When I played soccer in High School we had this older girl that people would jokingly call lesbian. For the Senior Day game, all the seniors got hand made posters by their teammates. On hers, people wrote all over it lesbian. After she got upset about it, she went into the bathroom and people were complaining about her being upset and not being able to take a "joke." Her parents were going to read that sign (this was one of the main reasons she was upset). I don't understand why people thought it was okay to write on a sign that she could possibly keep for years and that her entire family would see. After I stood up for her and told those girls that they needed to make a new sign, throw that one away, and be respectful, I went to the bathroom to check on her and talk to her. I told her I was making them make a new sign for her and she seemed relieved but also very angry. Later on down the road, she came out but that has nothing to do with it. She was getting made fun of at the time for something that she wasn't or something she was not open about. I don't understand why they thought that was okay. I was a freshman, 14 maybe? and was coherent, aware, and respectful enough to know that this was not okay but the seniors, 18-year-olds, thought that this was okay and funny. They weren't even remorseful. They were mad they had to make a new sign. They were mad she didn't like it. Maybe they said sorry but honestly, if they did it probably wasn't a sincere apology from many. I was the first one to stand up for her and honestly, I can't remember if anyone else did. If they did, it wasn't many others that spoke up.

Most of the time playing sports meant being put on a team in public school P.E. In elementary school they were pretty good about keeping the teams a mix of male and female, good and bad players, but middle school was sucky because the teams were girls vs boys about 90% of the time, and it was all about being aggressive and winning.

I always have to work that much harder and push to be excepted and the same goes for when we play other teams. Guys on other teams normally try to go easy on me because they think I'm weaker then them. I don't blame them as much as I blame the medias representation of women. In most movies its always the female waiting helplessly for Clark Kent or Spider-Man to come save them. It's up to female athletes to prove them wrong so let's go get them girls 👊

They instantly said I could t play because I was a girl and girls can't play soccer. It hurt a lot and I feel that this in all sports should not happen. I have also heard that if you are a girl in some sort of fighting sport you are considered lesbian. While this is completely false because I. The hard thing about being a trans person who likes sports (especially being a pre-T transguy) is the fact that everyone always assumes the worst from people. At my school, everyone who I associate with is either accepting or doesn't give a shit about my gender identity. I even received a comment on my coming out post on instagram where a member of my high school's baseball team said that his team collectively has my back if I ever need it. I felt welcomed by this, and I wanted to join the baseball team next year. Unfortunately, my mother keeps assuming that I'll be harassed if I use a boys' locker room (though I already use men's restrooms and nobody gives a shit) and she says I physically can't be as athletically adept as the rest of the boys. Therefore, she is discouraging me from joining the baseball team. I feel this is unfair because my ten-year-old brother does multiple sports - including baseball and soccer. I'm just as much of a boy as he is, so why shouldn't I be allowed to play on the boys' team? After all, I live in California, so it would be legal for me to join the team pre-T and pre-op.

If the system you have in place in sports doesn't allow transgender or intersex people to participate, if (when it comes to sports) it doesn't allow them to even exist, then there is something very wrong with the current system and everything needs to be changed.

wow this is quite eye opening, i'm straight and i've never considered females playing basketball being lesbos. i've always considered ppl are just either into or not into sports. thats all

Kinnon McKinnon is a good example for the transgendered side of LGBT and sports. A great guy and his mission is amazing.

The WNBA is pretty much the only sports league that I can think of that is not homophobic. There are a bunch of openly lesbian or bisexual athletes in the WNBA and it's not a big deal. The league also does PSA's, and holds LGBTQIA themed days. So if you are LGBTQIA or an ally and you want to follow sports, that is a good place to start. You can watch every WNBA game online each season for a single payment of $14.99.
