The fact that toymakers decided "pooping toys" needed to be a whole genre in itself is kinda wild.

​@@ariwl1 im assuming they're appealing to parents who want an engaging way to potty train their children. absolutely strange in concept but kind of makes sense when you think about it, at least a lot more than pregnancy toys imo 😭

​@@xenoncantreadNow... you see there is a point to the toys you mentioned and to why a lot of dolls are made to be 'realistic'(they cry, talk, need to be fed or to go potty). Their point is to condition girls into motherhood, wanting children, to have a family of their own etc. and to reinforce gender stereotypes and archetypes. Until recently dolls, kitchen sets, makeup and clothes for girls and toy guns, cars, tools for boys; pink for girls and blue for boys. Basically instead of allowing the child to form their own personality, likes/dislikes and interests these toys are there to bring out and enforce specific traits, ideas and behaviours.

it always seemed to me like these toys would more likely just teach kids to play with their own shit.

Wish such thought of comfort for the kid were around when I was being potty trained. Parents in the 80s and earlier thought being a parent meant being cruel till you break your kids spirit and cause them to be as broken as adult as they are.

@@omegapuppyttvYou’d be surprised how early kids develop a sense of utter disgust for poop from watching their parents be grossed out by poopy diapers. If a kid isn’t afraid of/grossed out by the concept of poop by 18 months, me and my coworkers start watching them for signs of delay or trouble at home. Most kids, when faced with their own poop, will either run, gag, cry, give the strong side-eye, or occasionally actually throw up! Source: I work in a daycare with kids aged 2 months - 5 years. When playing with these toys, 90% of kids already fully understand that this is a toy, and it isn’t the real thing. By the time a kid is old enough to play with these toys, if they can’t seperate real from fake poop, they’re already enrolled in services to support them! (most of the time, those kids are also not being given toys that - to them - encourage these behaviors. for example, don’t give toy food to a kid that is known to chew hard enough to break them… only kids that know the difference between pretending and reality!)
