I watch loads of RU-vid channels but it’s this one that every time leaves me thinking “what a lovely and awesome guy, I wish I was friends with him”. Tim you’re a legend!

I've just started a DIY extension, I used a mix on site company. Had 25m3 pumped in about 3 hours with an extra hour cleaning. No difference in concrete price and the pump was £500 for the day, worth ever penny. You can dry the mix up when stepping the foundations, no waste, no stress around measuring volumes.

Great to see such great progress! And I still can't believe I met Duncan in my former job in Limerick (Ireland) months after he appeared on this YT channel! It was so cool to talk to him about The Restoration Couple 😊

Once the heating pipes and concrete has been pored for your floors, I am sure that progress will appear much quicker. I'm enjoying the process. Thanks again for sharing. Cheers Jim

Let's hope so. Timber arrived a couple of days after slab so we can crack on with framing. 👍

Great progress. It’s hard to tell from the camera angles but I hope you’ve left yourself 9ft ceiling between the first and second floor. Makes such a difference. We forgot to put in the vent for the fire when doing ours. Nice catch and dig out by dad!

I was actually wondering about the ceiling height as well 🙂
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 3 часа назад
Its an 8ft ceiling or no first floor at all really, however over half of the downstairs space will be vaulted so 3.5-5m ceilings. Actually hoping some of the areas with lower ceilings will help it feel more 'homey'. 😂

Hi Tim, not sure what underfloor heating membrane you are using but I would recommend one with a 50mm grid drawn on it, nominally 1200wide so more taping to do but it is easy to lay with one person and brilliant for mapping out the pipe work and flow and returns and keeping them straight. Total game changer on our project and way better the full standard sheet. Loving the vids, keep it up great work as always Cheers STU
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 часа назад
It was handy enough to use the grids on PIR where they were visible and lined up as membrane was clear enough. Sounds good though providing it's kept square and all the grids align, shame its only 1200 rolls.

On all jobs the concrete is the most stressful and time critical part when you get going, for the suppliers to mess you around like that 😮 put them on the bad company’s list along with the trailer build company. No we haven’t forgotten them 😊

Concrete floors + your hydronic heat are a winner. Covering it can have benefits- afterwards there can be so much plaster on the floor, dents from dropped hammers, etc. . I saw one floor where they cut 4ft x 4ft squares as their control joints, and there weren’t other noticeable cracks anywhere else (used Kemiko stain, I think).
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 3 часа назад
Yeah it will all be covered as that's needed for the curing, we just need to decide if a month down the line we take up the floor covering and polish before stud walls go up or wait until later in the build. Will certainly be taking care to board the slab over before we start framing though. 👍

I think if you leave the UFH pressurised it won't freeze, double check but I'm pretty sure it will stay a liquid under pressure.
@andrewstandley8554
@andrewstandley8554 2 часа назад
Hi Tim , not sure if your doing the underfloor heating yourself at the moment but if so , please definitely add anti freeze to the pipes as you pressure test until the slab as hardened and then obviously leave in or blow out with a compressor seen to many people make this mistake in winter and the whole system freezes and splits , great build !!!
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 часа назад
Yeah definitely going to blow it out once tested! Even over the course of a day it's amazing how much the pressure in pipes changes with ambient temps.

We always foil tape all the joints & TBH you get that cupping with all the brands of PIR Celotex, Kingsoan, Unillin, Ecotherm, IKO etc Some are definitely better than others with the density though & how much better they are to cut.

I thought the concrete was polished as it was being floated then extra cement powder was spead then poiished in ,with the whirlygigs, make sure all drains are coverd to ingress of cement and under floor heating pipes are under pressure before and while concreting i would hate to go hunting for a leak
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 часа назад
That would be the power floating stage, any grinding/polishing is further down the line once cured. 👍

Wouldn't it have been better to have filled the ICF's 1st?
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 3 часа назад
Definitely! That was the plan. Unfortunately there is a whole load of plumbing and pool items that would need to be purchased and installed, tested etc first. It was the plan but don't want to rush that side of things if it could be avoided.
