I'm working as a substitute teacher and I'm thinking of applying to a master's teaching program to get my certificate. I'm also Mexican and work at a mostly Mexican school in Chicago. I remember seeing this movie with my mom and then seeing the South Park episode based on it a bit later. When a kid would goof off I would think to myself how do I reech these keeds.... Hey I'm from Chicago and it's the same for me. They would show this in Channel 11 wttw as a kid. "I killed him and his body's decomposing in my lockeeeer." I laughed alot at that, but still saw this as an amazing film. Glad you are helping the youth. Good luck to you and stay safe

I watched this movie so many times throughout my life in school lol. And I watched it a few days ago with my sister. She only liked the last part where they take the test. The movie isn’t perfect but I always enjoy watching it. Thanks for the video. I know it can be frustrating having to accommodate for YT but they’re still very entertaining.

I'm not Hispanic but I grew up in Texas and man we used to ride around all the time with five or six dudes in the back of a pickup truck. I've been on the freeway as the driver and in the back of a truck. I never thought about the fact that you can't do something like that nowadays. 😊

As a white kid growing up in San Antonio mixed Barrio, my school green lit a field trip to go see this movie at a theater on a Double decker bus, I learned alot just from this movie not math. Lol..... but... life lessons about certain hoods I never grew up in this film is very near and dear to my heart. Btw.... I olmos died laughing at that part of video. Lol

Seeing the world my parents grew up in is awesome even now I see a lot of similarities and relatability in this movie to my childhood only difference is I didn’t go to that school my parents did though glad they could make it out the hood to give me and my siblings a better life

@The Old Barrio9589 If you ever get to collaborate with PRIMM, the movie that I think would be best for you both to do is “The Principal” with Jim Belushi and Louis Gossip Junior, it’s a cool movie made in the mid 1980’s, where a white guy that takes no crap from anyone gets sent to be Principal of a school full of minorities at a rundown school with a gang giving the students there trouble. The movie is perfect for you both to review, it’s a good movie too 🙂👍🏼.

Attending public schools in my youth, I've seen this movie several times. My math teacher in 6th grade, played it for us and I also seen it in 7th grade. As well in 8th grade till my sophomore year in high school. I grew up in a Latin working class neighborhood, so this movie served as an inspiration for all of us. Off topic, I'm returning back to college in the fall. Oddly, East Los Angeles College. 🤪 I only need a 7 courses to transfer, we'll see whatever happens. Although, I'm not a math major, this movie does emphasize "ganas." I need to put in work for a library science degree.

The first time I saw this movie it was in my 7th or 8th grade math class and immediately recognized Lou Diamond Phillips and Edward James Olmos, but I called them Ritchie and Santana and my teacher looked at me crazy.

I don't know what it is about teaching math but almost all of the math teachers I had were a holes. I did have one good one my freshman year of high school and we watched stand and deliver in his class. I only watched Stand and Deliver that one time but I still always use the finger man method for multiples of 9. I need to watch this movie again.
