I think the problem is that you see so many different personalities on the internet nowadays and as humans, we like to rate the stuff that we are presented as simply as good or bad. Its similar to when thinking of replying. Sometimes, its not as clear as whether a person is joking or not, which is why things like “lol” or emoji is important to set the correct mood of the sentence. The main difference between talking with some friends in private and discussing it online in front of a large audience (aside from people specifically out to get you), is that the reach of that conversation is not necessarily limited to the people who know you well enough to know who you are as a person
@toufusoup

It is pretty infuriating to have to pre-face everything that you say and even then it doesn’t stop people from taking it the wrong way and then having people rally behind the wrong opinion. And even then some people are just downright evil and don’t give context at all. Biggest example that I could find was FreddieGibbs that captioned a Twitter post making fun of a hotel front desk worker having a bad day and then literally following them into the back to continue filming them, then making it a race thing. After that, they even leak DMs of people telling him his behavior was wrong so that their own fans would attack them. It’s horrifying stuff.

Well, that's the thing about talking in a pub with your dudes... they actually know you. Talking to a public there will always be a significant portion of them that actually don't now enough about you. Even in person, lots of us change the way we speak to strangers (and reserve some of our comments) precisely because there's an impression about ourselves we want for some reason. We can even tailor our responses with the perception (prejudge) we have about the stranger. Talking to a broad audience, is talking to the broad range of strangers we can face in our lives.

It also has to be said that we are in a phase of media and entertainment in general, that's been there for a few years, that's all about a never-ending flux of bite sized mass produced cheap stuff. It's like instead of having a full meal three times a day, we were just constantly being fed one potato chip every few minutes from a giant bag. Algorithms and big corporations like RU-vid or Facebook are a big part of the problem, because they decide what is put on the spotlight, and right now they put on the spotlight what brings THEM the most money in short term. More ambitious, carefully crafted content that takes time, money and talent, sometimes from bigger teams that you have to pay and organize, just has no place anymore in our 24 hour phone notification regime, because at the end of the day for the same amount of work, you'll have watched only one ad from the ambitious format, and dozens from the daily spam of react clips or livestream highlights. As a millenial, having to plug back the TV to finally get real constructed shows really hurt. But the current internet isn't interested in giving that to me anymore.
@Al_Xe
@Al_Xe 2 года назад
While I agree that bite sized content is on the rise, I’d say that there can be just as much production value in something like a highlights as say a 5 minute short film. I realise it’s in the minority but there’s a lot of well crafted and expertly edited content that take full advantage of stuff like the livestream highlights format. I’d argue that they’re only able to exist because of this current climate and while I understand the current climate isn’t exactly perfect, there’s still plenty of upsides that come with it. For example. Livestream highlights can provide an editor with opportunity to study editing principals without having to organise a whole shoot for a film. Game footage is leagues more flexible than that of a film and the barrier to entry is much lower so it makes learning how to edit much more accessible and easy. This is just one field as well, there’s plenty more opportunities the current climate provides for, VA’s, artists, writers, etc. Point being while it might seem that small bite sized content is overtaking more high effort content. In reality it’s giving those less experienced a chance to learn and improve themselves. With enough time someone working on livestream highlights could improve their skills to a point where they’ll be able to take on bigger projects. Hell, maybe a Film or TV show. Sure you’d have to jump through some hoops but it’s doable.

Totally agree with Conner. It frustrates me also every time I wanna make an opinion or comment on something, not only online but also in a group of people, that I have to explain my self as per people's interests just before I make an opinion cuz otherwise, they just misunderstand not only what I am saying but also assume my personality. Common sense is not common - is the perfect sentence to summarize this issue.

@@BrotherHood-xh9sg No that’s not what I meant and I’m sure that’s not what Conner also meant. We’re talking about how we have to not explain an opinion but how we have to justify our self or our beliefs before making any opinion/comment. For example, if I say “Japanese people are weird when it comes to….”, I don’t have to say that “I don’t mean to say Japanese people are bad or their something wrong with the culture etc etc”, It should be obvious to people that I’m not criticizing all Japanese people or their cultures or the country, I am just pointing out some flaws just like any country would have. In face-to-face conversation, you can see the other person's facial expression if they don't like what they're talking about and hear their pitch of voice. we're so used to reading faces and hearing the voice of people but in text, we're not there yet fact we're worse at understanding the words of other people in Text. it's because of their multiple meanings in their words of text and sometimes a misunderstanding of the word they're using

@trevorquach4580
@trevorquach4580 Год назад
@Trash_Taste, I support you guys and I believe it is never fair to judge or assume any thing about people we are not familiar with. People are complex, and communication seems to be an ongoing challenge for all people, especially for Autistic mixed with suspected ADHD individuals like me. I have been a victim of judgements and misunderstandings for a very long time, and I likely would still experience this, especially from people who don't have as much of an open mind as I would prefer. I believe we all should have the freedom to express as little or as much as we want. At the same time, I also see great value in explaining very explicitly what we believe, why we believe this, and what our intent is, because this helps to achieve a mutual understanding and minimises misunderstandings. I would never force, never pressure, and never expect people to explain things to me in the level of details that I prefer, but I would likely only stick with the people in my life who are willing to communicate with me in ways that I prefer. Respectfully, I have let go of multiple people in my life who demonstrate no willingness or no capacity to communicate thoroughly with me, because I can never be happy with these people and with these extremely challenging people interactions. My personal principle is to never assume any thing, which relates to an old phrase that 'assuming makes an ass out of u and me (ass-u-me)'. I instead manage my confusions by turning them in to curiosity and I try to understand the other person's point of view more deeply, especially if I get the opportunity to ask questions and they are willing to answer. My guess for one reason why this problem of judgement exists, is may be many people are caught up, with out realising it, in a very ancient and out dated culture taught by the parents or environment that tried to improve survival in a different time and different environment by constantly comparing one self to the people around them. I prefer to focus on my personal growth and happiness, partly because competition brings me no value. This world is complex and messy, and there is nothing wrong with some people having more luck than others. In an ideal world, we would all be supremely happy at the same time, and I'd like to think we may get there one day. Until then, I'd like to think we all have responsibility and great influence on our own happiness. Unpredictable and unfortunate events can happen to any one, but a positive mind set and how we choose to react to our environment, can help I believe.

There's a slight logical fallacy here. They're falsely equating individual communication with mass communication. Mass media has more in common with giving a speech in front of millions of people, as opposed to talking to Auntie Linda in your local Spoons. Prefacing speech is common amongst pretty much all forms of communication that has a generalised audience. Otherwise, you're just assuming that not even 1 out of 100,000,000 people will get 'the wrong idea' and misinterpret a statement. They're directly comparing talking to each other in a pub, with mass media communication - seems a little odd.

While I can see what you mean, you are definitely downplaying professional athletes. Doctors will always be paid higher than the average income and that puts them making above six figures, and more depending on your specialty. Athletes essentially train to become professionals for years, before they even make real salaries. Yeah we watch them 1-2 times a week, but what are they doing during the rest of the week? Not to mention, you are always at extreme risk due to the fact that if anything happens to your body that prevents you from playing, you will be dropped and someone will replace you. I hope I'm not coming off as attacking you because I've heard this argument before and I don't agree with it. That being said, I agree that doctors should be paid more (mainly during residency) as they have to go through four years of medical education, residency, a possible fellowship, just to begin to make their real salary to pay off their loans.

I think its important to say the unspoken implication that you do support things because it doesn't get said as much as people think it does and if people are only hearing the negative things(which people pay more attention to) which tends to rapidly spread then that negative becomes the common stance on people who were only educated via common knowledge. I also think that with a lot of communication being unspoken, via body language and tone (yes that's technically spoken) as well as emergent from a conversation you're sort of forced to front load a conversation to communicate clearly.

People often take things at face value online and don’t consider that there’s more depth. For example, someone can assume that a youtuber is wholesome and nice but they get outed as a crappy person. Then the internet says “I thought you were one of the good ones”. There’s more to people than what you see and you don’t have the right to assume their personality and how they act.

I understand the business side of things but it's still funny/sad to me that trisha paytas (not even her, just for example some mid-tier 'lifestyle' youtuber with 700k subs) earn more than a neurosurgeon. I think about this a lot and it's hilarious to me.
@youngpbands9507

Big youtubers are rich because of their massive audiences being so valuable. Businesses will pay someone like Trisha 10s of thousands for an ad in a video because they’ll make more money back. The neurosurgeon still makes a lot of money but only because he charges a really high price. If you want the surgeons to make more money then you’d be advocating for higher surgery costs. Importance does not equal value.

I've come to realize that lifestyle is the key component to younger people being able to live their life the way they actually want to live. Housing: Where are houses inexpensive vs expensive what are the tradeoffs, if any, living there really. Personal example: I moved to Dallas Fort Worth for a job. I chose to live in an inexpensive apartment up till the point where I could scout out where at the time the Housing costs were reasonable. Now Housing is becoming increasingly expensive across the board and it really is becoming a FOMO issue as cities everywhere expand. 😑 I took a job in a city with just under 200k and I actually bought a house in the next town South that is less than 13K. If I were to sell today I'd roughly make 50% on it. I hear constantly from my 20s 30s friends about wanting to buy a house. Go do it. If you have to make an adjustment then do it. Your minor desires to hang out city center etc is the cause of your dissatisfaction. That being said cities in JP are expensive and focused on rail. Good reasons for that an all. However within easy driving distance is more rural land that is effected by Japan's aging issue where housing is reasonable. Cars, Phones, etc: Stop buying a new one. Wear things out. Fix them if you can. It is the root of our overly consumer quagmire. Want less plastic in the ocean? Buy less plastic stuff in plastic containers done. Fashion: The cost is in the labor. It is just as easy to make good clothes as crappy. I grew up in the former textile areas of the US. It is shameful what the "Modern" nations have done to their economies.

With teachers it has to be remembered that what a 20-30 kids at best can be teached. Add to that the class room, equipment and materials. Now divide it by the number of kids... It starts to really make more sense, in the end teaching is low productivity job that does not scale. Just like nursing or policing. Now compare it to youtuber, what 5 or 6 people spend a few hours on episode. And you can replicate that to how many viewers? Not that marketing isn't overpriced and whole online economy isn't bullshit in the end, but somethings scale and somethings don't.

To Connor's point - unfortunately there is a NEED to preface things like that because unless you're consistently vocal about your views (which I think Connor is to a point) people can't be sure if you have basic human decency or not - because there's millions of people on the internet who just don't have common decency. Connor saying he supports the LGBTQ+ community, for example, is a given for normal decent human beings, but if I had a dollar for every time I've had to interact with bigots who hate gay or trans people on the internet I'd be a goddamn millionaire (and often in the anime community lol). It's sad and it sucks, and I've watched Connor enough and this show enough to have a great baseline of how they really feel about certain things, but it's just not realistic to assume the People Of The World present on the internet agree with you on even the most basic of human decency and respect , or simple common sense.

You have to preface because we live a time where alot of actual bad people are some of the biggest influencers and so you should always preface things to help people understand and so you don't sound just like those bad people. But you also shouldn't be saying things that you'd have to immediatly defend yourself anyway. The problem online is, people don't cancel for the right reasons, or are quick to forgive because a bad person had good content or was popular. You could say "I like Grapes more than Apples" and you'd get cancelled, but you could do all kinds of actual fucked up shit but because you're popular or make good content the frogs with zero tension span instantly forgive the most fucked people just to have their content again, when THEY should be the ones to be cancelled for good, not the person who just randomly prefers Grapes to Apples.
