They have no clue what they're doing. The Wild Wild West site changed to Tropicana, a retractable roof to a fixed dome. I can't wait to see what's next...
Brodie Summerlin isn’t “west of the greater Las Vegas area”. Summerlin is in the western part of the Las Vegas Metro. It’s a neighborhood or district of the city. It’s not its own city out west of Vegas. You recently have been calling it and treating it like that when that’s just so far from the case. It would be like saying “Cypress Village, a city out to the west of Oakland” it makes no sense.
The first impression has already been cast. It’s a shit show. And nobody even wants them there. No renderings, no financial plan. Great first impression! Fisher and his puppet Kaval are a bad joke. How can anyone in pro sports take these clowns seriously?
@@ldfreitas9437 ideally, I hope something happens in which the team stays in Oakland. Fisher needs to swallow his pride and open negotiations with the city.
When I saw the photo posted of Ryan Smith, Owner of the Utah Jazz, on twitter of him Rob Manfred golfing back on 1/18. I became certain the A's are heading to SLC. It's a perfect dry run to test MLB in SLC as a future expansion city.
To call the A's a s**t show is an insult to ... REAL s**t shows. The Ballers are better organized. By the by, playing in Reno doesn't sound like all that bad an idea. In 1993, the Canadian Football League awarded a franchise to Las Vegas. The team had one of those "name the team" contests, to which I sent in some ideas from my home in Mesa, AZ, where I was living at the time. I suggested three names: the Nevada Outlaws, the Nevada Gamblers or the Nevada Aces. I also suggested they play some of their home games at the University of Nevada's stadium in Reno, since the CFL starts their season in late June, which is the time the Devil takes his vacation in Vegas -- to cool down. The CFL's foray to the US (which also included a team in Sacramento) was a farce from the get go, since one of the main qualifications for ownership of a franchise was the appearance of a pulse. And the Las Vegas team (which took the name of the Las Vegas Posse) was the ultimate s**t show. For their first home game (nationally televised to Canada), the team hired a local lounge singer to sing the national anthems. And he sang O Canada to the tune of O Tannenbaum. Had he done the same to OUR national anthem, his body would have been forcibly relocated to the bottom of Lake Mead; the Canucks -- decent folks that they are -- flew him to Hamilton, Ontario to make amends by singing it properly. The Posse's practice field was in the parking lot of the Riviera Hotel (don't think there were any tackling drills), and their coach, Ron Meyer, once cut short practice so he could play the craps tables. Attendance was so bad at Sam Boyd Stadium (which was as far away from the Strip as one can get down there) that it would have been quicker to introduce the fans to the players (instead of the other way around). Eventually, the team's last home game was moved to Edmonton, and the Posse was mercifully folded, after one year. If the A's think that the citizens of Southern Nevada won't notice a clown show, I think they'll find the locals have been there, done that. (And then the team would wish they had gone to Salt Lake, or better still, stayed in Oakland.)
I watched this live while living in Ottawa! As an American who had never been to Canada (I had been in Canada for like 6 weeks when that happened) I remember thinking: "This is going to be a very big deal in Canada." And sure enough, it was front page news in the "Globe and Mail" for like a week! (If memory serves, they were taking on the Shreveport Pirates, another ill-fated CFL expansion team.) Canadians handled it with their usual good sense of humor, and while I have lived my adult life in the Bay (Aside: Sell the team!), I feel like I was a witness to a very strange episode in American/Canadian relations. Thank you for taking me down memory lane!
I like the "jump start" rationale, but I lean toward the "anticipation" factor more. By moving to SLC for a few years, the team could exact some nice deals from a city/sponsors who are anxious to make good impressions toward their own MLB expansion proposal. SLC keeps southern Nevada "clean" for the A's and does require the significant payroll increases Brody seems to think are obligatory. SLC realizes the move is a transition, with no illusions, but provides an excellent trial run without huge commitments. That's my call for the A's landing spot - SLC.
if the A's don't want to play ⚾ in Oakland beyond this year and they are looking for a MLB suitable stadium. Why not play their games in the interim at Olympic Stadium in Montreal which is unoccupied by MLB.🤔
@@joemlakar8310 You're after my own heart with that idea! Although we dare dream, the western division set up seems to mitigate against any such eastern temporary home. SLC still looks like a winner to me. Best.
@joemlakar8310 I don't think the Angels or Mariners would appreciate having to fly to the east coast two times every year (would've been worse a couple years back with 6 series vs divisional opponents).
Is this a softer side of Brodie in terms of A’s relocation? Didn’t sense any of the backdoor sarcastic “doubts” of previous videos. It’s as though you are actually feeling sorry for the A’s versus just feeling sorry for the A’s fans. Maybe “it’s just a business” sentiment is sinking in versus the love of a team and sport that you have had since being a kid. Keep up the great videos. P.S. The White Sox “78” location video was one of your best commentary videos.
At this rate it's time to defunct the team. It feels like baseball in the early years when a team is trying to find players and where to play. Time's up. Just dissolve the team.
I don't know what has to be done to get Las Vegas Ballpark (LVB) ready for MLB, but it's widely reported that the player facilities are better than what's available at the Oakland Colosseum. It might be possible to add temporary seats on top of the party decks in right field, but left field is blocked by the Golden Knights' practice ice. The groundskeepers at LVB have said (as you've reported) that they couldn't maintain a natural-grass field with two teams using it. To avoid changing the field to turf, which would magnify the on-field heat, it might be possible to move the Aviators back to Cashman Field, which was widely regarded as a terrible AAA facility five years ago but I looked on satellite view and it seems to still have its seating in the same configuration. There are two other tenants at Cashman that might offer similar scheduling problems, though.
Summerlin is not a perfect solution, but to me it makes the most sense. They can start establishing and marketing themselves as the Las Vegas A's. Being lame ducks in Oakland would be manageable for a year, but for 4 years? Lame duck seasons in other similar cases have been sad affairs. Camping out temporarily in a totally different place I guess is what they are pursuing, though. Would they be the Oakland A's or the Las Vegas A's while playing in SLC? Or would they call themselves the Salt Lake A's?
Is it just me or are the A's like a procrastinating student who knows that they have a major project due on the final day of class from day 1 of classes and should have started their project probably week 1 of classes and now it's about 2 weeks before the last class and they haven't started anything...
The lack of a plan to play in Summerlin is evidence that even the A's think their LV deal is shaky. Going to Summerlin commits them to Vegas. Playing in Sacramento/SF/SLC gives them the out to return to Oakland or play somewhere other than LV.
SLC A's would probably make a ton of sense long-term. Maybe Las Vegas thinks they won't get an expansion team. Vegas might be over-saturated with sports teams. Or, at the very least, with sports arenas/stadiums. The tax payers seem tapped out. But, I don't live there.
Another thing Summerlin may against it is that I can't see the ballpark's owners willing to put money into upgrading the ballpark since it will likely be vacant once the A's move into whatever they build in Vegas, so the A's will need to fund all the improvements. Sacramento and Daybreak may be more willing to help fund seating expansion since those parks will have a clear use after the A's move out.
They don’t want a soft entrance. So they will play someplace temp. They may just play in Arizona for. A couple of years, or at Oracle which is most likely.
Is it possible some kind of deal was made at the vote that the other owners agreed to vote yes only if the A’s agreed not to play their temporary seasons outdoors in the Nevada heat? There have been increasing injury problems for at least the past 15 years and I could see owners not wanting to expose multi million dollar players to adverse conditions. The other owners were willing to sport the move, but maybe not if there was a chance of it harming their team.
Saw the agenda items for 1/25 meeting of the Vegas Chamber. Agenda item at 1025 am tomorrow will be the Athletics conversation with A's leadership for the vision and future of the A's in Southern Nevada. Dave Kaval will be presenting. This could mean the reveal of the official ballpark renderings as well. Since the renderings have been done for some time now, could only assume that they will revealed tomorrow. I am sure many out there can't wait to see them.
Because they don't have to lock into Summerlin, the A's are just looking at all possible options to find the best solution, one solution the A's are not looking at is staying in Oakland.
Any other option just doesnt make sense... Build your brand in the City you intended to be staying in even if you have to play in a furnace! The TB Lightning played at the FL state fairground for like 2 years and then Tropicana Field until they got their arena in downtown Tampa. Look up those pics Brodie. Now look at us! The Rays will get theirs too.
2 owners 94 to 2004 Hoffman brothers the house Builders they did not have the means of running a sports franchise and then the money to invest on field the team. All FA left back to rebuilding in a 10-year loop. 2005 season to present day have ruin franchise. Once LEW WOLF sold his smaller share to Fisher, who then became only owner plans shifted back to Las Vegas to relocate. Like the plan when he first bought them See Fisher and Grandfather Help save the giants in 93 with the group of ownership. He as kid used to go see the SFG together as diehards with Grandfather grandson SFG My belief was that he bought to move the athletics out of the bayarea
Brodie, what if the Larry H Miller group aka big league Utah could be low key courting the A's to come to SLC? Getting the use of the new fancy triple a park with their changes while they build the main stadium? Sweeten the deal as partners to get financials figured between all of them. Seems like that's taking some time to in Vegas. So why not SLC?
@@togoandmoss International exposure? In Vegas? You have currently 2 players on a team that give way more International exposure than the A's currently have or probably will have in Vegas EVER! And also I don't think a move to SLC will make any difference for an Oakland A's fan.
@@HeavyC78Las Vegas A's sounds more appealing to uneducated sports fans outside of North America who aren't fans of baseball yet and looking for a "cool, hip and trendy" city to become a fan that isn't the New York Yankees or the Los Angeles Dodgers.
@@togoandmoss So you are referring to international visitors coming in for Conventions. In which they'll mostly spend time at their convention most of the time. Maybe catch a show or two and gamble some. Then get out. Where does watching a ball game fit in? If your going to an event (sporting or otherwise) your going there for that reason. Then will try to plan other things if possible. I was just in Vegas in October at a convention. I had other things going on than wanting to attend a show or sporting event if I could. Btw Oakland does have a convention center. Might wanna research before getting defensive.
Any MiLB ballpark they choose will require MLB upgrades & who's gonna pay for them? I don't see Fisher paying for them. If it's Summerline, if not Fisher, then who?
Dear SAC/SJC: Do what you can to get the A'S on a defined time period. Because around 2027 when the stadium isn't built? Then your tenant becomes a squatter. Totally see Fisher saying "We have a stadium, let's just stay here."
The A's should play those 3 years in Montreal. The Big O is still standing and waiting for baseball. That would get them far away from Oakland and perhaps make the mourning easier for A's fans. Also, that would keep them far away from Las Vegas so their new 'fan' doesn't have to see the shitshow until 2028.
This is one of those reality inversions that truly boggle the mind. You have a successful and beloved AAA team in Las Vegas in the Aviators, owned by a goliath corporation in Hughes. You also have a carpetbagging grifter owner in Fisher with a woebegon franchise - ostensibly Major League - in the A's rumored to be displacing them. I'm kinda thinking somebody finally did the calculus on this and it's being snuffed out behind the scenes...Cashman Field! Here they come!... 😃
What I don’t getvis if they’re willing to move to Sacramento then why not just head straight to Summerlin and be done with it as both parks house minor league teams so it should be the Avaitors not the River Cats who get affected plus it would rip the band aid off as they would officially fomplete the move to Vegas
If the A's are going to Vegas, they should retrofit Reno for 2025 If the A's are going to SLC, they should play in Daybreak in 2025 Otherwise sell the team and play in the Coli until HT is ready
OR, if Fisher would sell out 100% of his interest in the A's to the group in SLC. No secrete that Big League Utah want's expansion first and foremost. To start fresh with a new team. But if the Vegas move fails & they could fully purchase and brand the A's away from Fisher, my guess is they would.
Salt Lake City is probably the front runner. Summerlin would be better for Nevada and Sacramento would be better for current Oakland fans, but in true Manfred he's going to only look out for himself and the SLC seems to be the most eager to host the A's. Also, it would not surprise me if the A's will pivot to moving the A's to Utah full time turning their backs on Las Vegas.
Been an A's fan since the early 70's. We have the worst owner of any professional sports team ever. He destroyed a once great team and once great, diehard fan base. I'm sick of hearing about it, don't care anymore, I let it go three years ago. "Rooted in Oakland"...
Just like Fisher to screw his own AAA affiliate out of a potential temporary home!! It’s becoming more and more apparent that Oakland is better off without the A’s (while under current ownership).
Be very careful. They have a great marketing system but it's there to fool you. Food is the worst. Twenty dollars for super stale nachos with little meat no sour cream avocado just simple in a baseball cap plastic but still not a big portion.Carbonated drinks are 10 dollars in a cup that would be sold at am/pm for 69 cents. Chicken fingers burritos with the hardest french fries imaginable not normal all pre bought microwave stuff. It's just a tourist trap but made for locals. Suites prices online are 1700 for just 3 hours . Pretty small they say 20 people but inside is like 6 chairs so it's standing room . It's Howard Hughes who owns this place and bottom line they want your money. A small plastic cup of beer is 14 dollars so be careful eat first or just don't come.
I doubt the A's are worried about "first impressions" because they are already a known entity. Baseball fans in Vegas know all a out the A's including their recent struggles both on and off the field. The A's decision on where to play during the interim period will be made in conjunction with MLB and various factors will be taken into account, including stadium size, accessibility, nearby airport and hotel availability and costs of doing business. If shovels do go into the ground the A's will begin a marketing campaign that will get fans interested into what's to come, Major League Baseball in their city.
John Fisher doesn't want Vegas to see what a crappy product he presents! Over 100 losses would not be a great 1st impression for Vegas fans in 2025! They don't want to turn off fans just yet! Fisher doesn't want the Vegas citizens to see the reality of what they have bought just yet!
Fisher is not a business man He tried to get a deal with Oakland by teasing Vegas He is to cheap of owner to get it done can't sell as 40% penalty he's a small dog needs to ante up in investment to be a Vegas team
Yes, strange that this park, or Sacramento's, or Salt Lake's aren't the places to play. Sac and Salt Lake better cities to move, but Las Vegas could play at that park in Summerlin. It only lacks bleacher seating. Add it, it becomes an MLB park and no need to build a new one and save billions!
