Update: 1:06am Governor Joe Lombardo says he will enact a special session, and give further details this morning. However: Reporting from Sean Golonka of the Nevada Independent says: " Only Speaker and Majority Leader can introduce bills in a special session.
@@MEmyselfAndReed Fisher is NOT selling the A's. So long he can build a new stadium somewhere on planet Earth, he continues to collect his profitable MLB profit sharing paycheck. At the same time, he gets to watch his team grow in value even with the lowest payroll in baseball. Why would he sell? (I wish he sells, but he won't)
@@mattho4305 it was meant more as wishful thinking. There is always hope. If they can’t get that sweet heart deal they want. MLB owner stop playing ball because they get tired of the situation. I only say it because if he sold right now he would walk away with a hefty profit. Still… only wishful thinking.
As a huge kings fan who went threw this with the maloofs. This is your time guys. Oakland needs to act now. This is exactly how you get a deal done. And maybe even get fisher to sell. Remember the maloofs said no to selling 3 times. And still sold. Goodluck guys! You deserve the A’s!
The Governor called a special session this morning only the two bills are to be considered during the session the 5th budget bill and one bill involving raises for charter school teachers. No Other bills being considered for this session. So they would have to call a second special session if they want to consider the A's bill
Thanks Brodie for your reporting. Our family is made up of three generations of A’s fans. Hopefully, the City of Oakland has some leverage to keep the A’s in Oakland.
The best outcome is for Mr. Fisher to realize that moving the A's is too much like work (a word he abhors) for him and he sells the team to someone who wants to make something out of it.
I was refreshing my news feed and Brodie Brazil videos all day (and week) looking for updates….and we’re finally here. Thanks for your coverage Brodie.
You're the best, Brodie. This series of videos you've done on the ballpark issue with the A's will not be forgotten regardless of what happens. Great journalism by someone who claims to not be one!
Oakland is no longer a Option for the A’s I’m sorry I’m guessing you are a A’s fan it’s gonna be Okay I get your upset but it’s a business you can come be a Astros fan
I say the City responds by sending the Mayor to the A's game on June 13 to join the reverse protest. If the Mayor is there leading the effort, it might get more attention.
No special session will bring up the bill or even the studio bill. Nevada is doing the right thing worrying bout stuff that really matters. Now sell the team fisher and the new owner and Oakland city council get back to the table let’s get this deal done
There are so many red flags with this proposal that if it did get approved it would likely be a huge problem for Las Vegas and MLB in the long run. I could see delays during construction due to the small ball park and the location which could cause it run over budget. I could see the stadium not drawing enough fans to be profitable once it's build due to the very tight margins proposed. In which case, are the A's moving again 15 years after the stadium is built? In general, even if someone wants the A's in Las Vegas they need a better plan than this. At minimum, a different site that would allow a bigger ballpark to be built.
Hi Brodie! Thanks for staying up for us. Not getting the bill out of committee speaks volumes. However, as we baseball fans know, "It aint over until it's over!" STAY IN OAKLAND, BOZO BROS!
Same here. I used to live in Oakland and attended the A's public meeting for their proposed Laney College stadium location because I supported it, knowing little about the team at the time. The locals were overwhelmingly against the A's stadium location there. I live in Southern California now and have been following this. I generally find interest in large scale projects, their public outreach process, planning, design and effects on the community.
Much Respect for all the folks on the ground level, from Oakland fans to Nevada residents concerned about their tax Dollars. There's a lot of movement going on in the background to derail this development and really putting much needed scrutiny over an out of state Billionaire reaping the rewards of moving this franchise. I won't hold my breath, and Def don't want to jinx anything. I'll be in the Coliseum on the 13th. Whether it's a final good by or a celebration for things to come I don't know, I just want to celebrate the legacy they have so far in Oakland!
Brodie I gotta say your efforts during this entire debacle have been outstanding. I'll admit to being a critic of yours in the past but I can't deny your hard work and dedication to this story. The depths to which you've gone to regarding this process and the pace of video releases, all while keeping up with pre and post game duties, has been Herculean. I thank you so much for everything you've done and trust that you've silenced this critic and turned him into a supporter. Cheers man.
Nice detailed breakdown. I'm still of the opinion the A's end up elsewhere. The fit just doesn't seem to be there. It's a great deal of grandstanding. The 9 acre Tropicana Mini-Stadium proposition is strange on it's best day. It smells of desperation to be on the Strip. I have a small suspicion the A's ownership is using both Oakland and Vegas as negotiating tactics to find a home and possible buyer. The entire situation is weird.
The rules for a special session in Nevada are very limiting. Either 2/3 if the legislature signs a petition to have a special session or the governor orders it to take place. Either way, the session can only be used for the purpose it is called. No other topics. Nevada has only one 120 day session every other year. This means we truly have part time legislators. These people have jobs and so do their staffs. The compensation provided to them in a special session is very minimal. Most of the legislators want no part of returning to Carson City. If there has to be a special session for other budget matters, you can forget about anything related to the A"s. Also, with the extreme inconvenience of a special session there is normally a consensus that the matter being considered will pass before they show up. These sessions are typically 3-5 days with a schedule just to complete the procedural process. Hope this helps.
@@adanalyst6925 I’m not familiar enough with Nevada to know if multiple special sessions in a biennium are rare there. I’d imagine that can happen. But is that likely?
@@adanalyst6925 difference being they wanted to raiders - they Don’t want the A’s as enthusiastically. For this to work Vegas has to be all in. Politicians, citizens, unions. Im convinced they only had unions in and it was too selfish for even the locals to get behind. Nobody cares about temp construction Union jobs - the cooks can get jobs elsewhere in the union. This was a no win situation for Vegas - more headache and problems for a basement dwelling org because of fisher. Fisher watched major league but forgot real life ain’t movies. If it smells bad it prolly is and Fisher stinks
Oakland A's fans may have dodged a proverbial bullet here. Maybe this gets Fisher/Kaval to go back, hat in hand, to Sheng Tao (sp?) and say, "Can we still make a deal?"
Thanks for the recap Brodie. You have been doing an excellent job with these videos. I am sure the pace is tiring but many of us appreciate the job you are doing.
Watching this from the other side of the world in New Zealand. Fascinating! Brodie’s passion for the A’s and the truth have turned me into a fan… both of the A’s and him.
I'm surprised that MLB 1) doesn't force the sale of the A's and 2) give the A's back San Jose territory, since it's the A's that ceded that territory to the Giants so that the Giants could stay in SF
There's a much broader argument between the legislature and the Governor. There absolutely will be a special session as they still haven't settled on a budget. The Governor gets to set the agenda for the special session. He may or may not include the A's Stadium. What is clear to me is that they hadn't gotten the necessary support of the Committee Chairs (they can essentially veto a bill by not granting it a vote, which is exactly what happened, Danielle Monroe-Moreno is the Ways and Means Chair, the Chair of the Committee who has jurisdiction over this, she's also the State Party Chair). What's unclear is whether the Governor and the legislative leadership have a deal on policy matters external to the budget. Nevada Special Sessions generally don't use the Committees. Instead they use a Committee of the Whole. So if the leadership wants the stadium, they can get around the Committee Chairs, by having the entire legislative body be the Committee. My educated guess: if Lombardo puts it on the special session agenda, there was a deal that resulted in the signature on the budget. As for the politics of it, the unions, which are an extremely important constituency in Nevada, are in favor of the ballpark. Update: the Speaker said he won't bring the film tax credit and the stadium bill up for a vote in a special session. That still doesn't mean it's dead, the Governor might say he won't sign the Capital Improvement bill without the film credits and/or the A's stadium. So it's not quite dead but is on life support. A lot of this fight is about the legislature being mad that the Governor approved $350 million in tax credits without consulting them. That went to Northern Nevada. And Nevada politics is always less partisan than regional. While the Governor is from Southern Nevada, his Chief of Staff is a former State Senator from Northern Nevada.
First- fisher needs to sell the team Second-the new owner needs to fund a stadium. Not a retail hotel housing site. Just a stadium. Third- the A's don't need a waterfront park. There's plenty of space at the colisium site to build a new park just to one side of the current colisium. Then tear down the old colisium for parking or shops or restaurants for people to gather at before and after the games.
There is already a report coming out of Nevada. That there is a special session to take place. But it will not hear bill 509B or The MGM film taxes bill during this special session. When asked if the bill 509B was going to be looked at or voted on governor Lombardo didn't say anything
1:05 1.5 billion dollars to build a stadium, why so much money??? PNC Park in Pittsburgh was built for 216 million dollars 22 years ago. That's 357 million dollars in today's money. Pnc park is rated one of the best stadium in baseball. 1.5 billion seems like an awfully lot of money to build a stadium????
@@mharp6166 All Mark Davis had to do was put up $500K on a "bonafide plan" in Oakland, and that would've effectively broken the A's 10 year lease at the Coliseum
Special session 😮 , if I was Vegas at this point just wait for a expansion team and find a Golden Knights type owner and build the right stadium on a good location with support from the locals, this situation stinks 😩🦨
I don't think there would be a special session BEFORE the next MLB meeting at June 13, which coincidentally, the day the reverse boycott happens... So let's see, IMO this failure should be the embarrassment for MLB that they should force Fisher to sell... 🤔🤔🤔
I agree this dream that Fisher had of going to the desert to build a ballpark is delayed. and everyone one knows that when something like this is delayed then it is dead. MLB and Fisher at this point will be pushed to sell the team
Brodie...just a side note, don't know if you've covered this prior or not, but the A's organization has done little to absolutely NO p/r here in Las Vegas. As the talk of the Raiders and the Golden Knights (prior) started...those organizations were visible and vocal...often! and on all forms of media. The A's have done nothing to endear themselves to Las Vegas locals...further hindering future ticket revenue requirements. I cannot stress how much locals HATE that Trop and Vegas blvd intersection idea - that shows the organization is completely tone deaf. Personally, I grew up supporting the A's (from Portland,OR)...but I'm leaning towards an Expansion team after witnessing this ownership group. Thanks for all the coverage Brodie. Cheers.
A. Instead of the legislative and the governor voting on this proposal- let’s see it come to a vote by the citizens of Nevada in a line item referendum vote on the next election cycle. B. Giving the A’s a TAX FREE location is incredibly - this was never really discussed/ brought up- talk about Billionaires welfare $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
- Bringing your best again in the wee hours of the morning - If you were a 9th inning closer a 4:00 start time would have no effect on your rhythms or performance. Thanks for keeping us close
Hijack time! This because the combination of your first fragment and your second makes it sound like you’re talking about first pitch at 4 am most mornings. The Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL) used to have a game a year (or even twice one year IIRC) where the first face off was at 11:59 pm. Considering the heat in Vegas, I can’t help but think that should be the standard for the A’s if they move AND, most predictably, Fisher decides the roof is too expensive. Mind you, if Vegas had landed MLS, not only should they have made midnight kickoffs the standard, that atmosphere would have been something.
And I apologize but one more thing, the legislators know what is going on with the bill they know what votes they have and don't have, they are always talking about that. The A's bill is still in committee as they have never voted on it and that could be a sign even in committee it may not have the votes to get out or again could be a game that is going on.
“What are my chances?” “Not good” “You mean ‘not good’ like..::one out of a hundred? “I’d say…more like one out of a million.” “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?..,.yeah!!”
I'm 53 as a life long A's fan in Sacramento....im not sure this is a time for Oakland to speak up....for all the mistakes the city of oakland has made, they did not break off discusions with the A's....fisher clearly needs to sell the team to someone who will at least keep the team in northern California if not oakland itself...but I don't think he will sell, unless pressured by MLB...
If anybody wants to see what will happen in just 20 years Look at Milwaukee and there current stadium and how MLB and the Brewers are holding the city /state hostages for $200 million in repairs /upgrades NEEDED to keep the team in the city or the will move………
A’s can eliminate the LV stadium retractable roof and sell their half of the Coliseum site and they can go forward without government subsidies. If that happens MLB would be p-ssed and probably would charge the A’s $300 M relocation fee. That could force the A’s to go back to HT. Ultimately IMO it comes down to a. How desperate are the A’s to get a stadium agreement and avoid losing their share of revenue sharing b. How desperate is MLB to get a team in LV and be part of the pro sports movement to LV.
Thanks for the great reporting Brodie!!! This saga of your work will live on for all future generations to see. Great detail and really is much appreciated! Thank you!
Who wants a terrible team? Not Nevada! Fisher. Needs. To. Go. And you might as well take Dave "The Snake Oil Salesman" Kaval with him. Nevadans, you can do sooo much better than taking on this dysfunctional mess of an organization.
Hahahahaha.... BREAKING NEWS.... SEATTLE & VEGAS Prime Top Candidates for NBA expansion teams...."Basketball 🏀 & hockey 🏒 Rule the Vegas Skylines"....🤣😂😆
They are still moving. They might even move after this year regardless. They will get more fans in the AAA park in Summerlin then in Oakland. If the funding totally fails they can look at Charlotte which is another option or open it up to other cities. They are not staying in Oakland with 2,000 fans showing up. New owners are not fixing that. Issue is no place to build.
What a goat rope . Always looking for free money. Does not matter what city or county or what state all they want is free money I say, bring your checkbook and pay for your own stadium wherever it may be.
Vegas needs its own expansion team. A's need to go to sacramento and id have to assume by now the A's are quietly lookn elsewhere cause the pictures i saw of kaval and fisher last week surely tell me they know there in trouble with this
I know everyone is left wondering. What does this mean for the team relocation? While it might mean Vegas is no longer viable, but does this mean the team is shopped around to other cities? Is Oakland even being considered at this point? Does Oakland attempt to step up and try to lure the A's back?
Who wants to go out in 100 degree heat, drive around trying to find a parking spot, paying probably $50 or more for parking, buying $30 tickets anointing $30 in Las Vegas taxes to sit and watch a mediocre baseball team ?!! Oakland keep your team !
The current owner of the Oakland A's needs to sell the team and cut your losses in more ways than one. That would be my immediate response if I am the current owner of the Oakland A's right now and flee from Oakland and ever owning a sports franchise again!
After watching most of Brodie’s videos over the past six or seven weeks, only now did I figure out that I can watch his videos at 1.75 Playback Speed with very little loss of comprehension.
There are so many women in those pictures, no wonder things don't get passed or even voted on, I'd be surprised if they knew what they wanted to eat most days, even that is a challenge for them...
I feel it would be better for Vegas to lean towards a potential expansion team rather than support the A's under its current ownership. Fisher is proving he has no interest in fielding a competitive team. Any time a player shows they are good, they get shipped off or non-tendered. At least an expansion team has a legitimate excuse to be bad for a few years, though the Knights threw a wrench into that argument.
There is a city that has a mlb stadium right now for the A's if this doesn't work out in vegas and that's Montreal. Olympic stadium maybe old, but it can still pass as an mlb stadium, temporarily until a new stadium gets built in Montreal. Not to mention Montreal is in the running for a possible mlb team in the future.
Won't work on Montreal. The Expos didn't make it and they had some very good teams. The Canadiens have cast a long shadow and hockey is religion there. In all fairness, the Montreal minor league baseball team did well. Jackie Robinson went through there on his way to making history with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The father of the most important French-Canadian figure, and not just in sports, Maurice Richard, played for them.
