China's demand for durian keeps rising but Vietnamese farmers are worried it may be very hard for Vietnam's supply to keep up in the long run. CNA's Tung Ngo has more.
In Malaysia, we don't grow durians near downstream river, let alone near to the sea or in the middle of a small island. We always plant it on the hills, or upstream. I believe Vietnam do this because it's the only areas with climate closest to rainforest.
this video is mostly propaganda. people in Vietnam have common sense. the largest durian area is in Tay Nguyen, which is a highland; and second largest is the Mekong delta. People in this video plant their durian tree near the river because that the only land they own.
@@2laidragon What quality of taste makes the Malaysian durian superior to those grown in other countries? Sweeter, creamier, something else? I love the durian I get here in The Philippines.
its not the rising sales they are sad off its extreme weather condition. the title is clickbaity but if u watch the whole video its basically about climate change,
@@firedup692the only time that happened was when European sail to south east Asia with war junks to plunder and colonize Vietnam and other south east Asian. This lasted two hundred years with genocide all over the place.
a protective layer, preventing ethylene gas from causing durian to ripen too early. The mechanism is similar to protective wax on the surface of apples in the US and Europe.
South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala also have small scale durian plantations. They were planted by migrant workers who returned home from working in Malaya back then.
There are many delicious and famous fruits in Vietnam such as Hung Yen Lychee, Hung Yen Longan, Mango Moc Chau and Mango Vinh Long, Rambutan Vinh Long, Mangosteen Hau Giang, Jackfruit Long An, Wartermelon Sam Son etc. more but I can't remember all of them
For normal market demand, China buys Thai and Vietnamese durians. For special quality durians, mainland Chinese, HK and Macau afficionados will buy Malaysian durians.
Musang King is too expensive and yields are low. The Ri6 is a lighter choice on the wallet. Of course the quality is about 75-80% compared to Malaysian durian but it is cheap and popular.
Yeah. However, once you try a couple times, you will be addicted to the texture especially when you got a quality one from part of southern Thailand and Northern Malaysia region.
In 2023, more than 90% of Vietnam's total rice exports, valued at $4.78 billion USD, came from the Mekong Delta region. Plus, Vietnam exported durians worth $2.3 billion USD in the same year. Vietnam is worried about Cambodia's construction of the Funan Techo canal, which makes sense. The money Cambodia pays Vietnam for transportation fees is much less compared to what Vietnam earns from exporting rice and durians from the Mekong Delta region.
Same problem as in Thailand, climates change, droughts even the most rain provinces of Thailand in Ranong has lack of water ,the government did some clouds seeding and it works for a few minutes rains
Oh, so USA and Australia or Western countries do not have climate problems? Just shut up already. You people always trying to denigrade Asian countries and idolising Western countries makes me puke.
Vietnamese delta farmers will be even worse off when Cambodia finishes its 170km canal project from Phnom Penh to the sea diverting some Mekong water into this canal.
Go compete with thailand as much as you want. The thing is we thai cant eat expensive durian because chinese outbid us. Inflation adjusted, the price rise 3 times compared to 30 years ago. I havent eaten it for like 20 years
*THAT'S HOW CHINESE BUSINESSMEN BEAT THE CAPITAL OUTFLOW RESTRICTIONS BY THE CHINA GOVERNMENT. THEY OVERPAY FOR THE IMPORTS TO CHINA, AND THEY ARE PAYING TO A VIETNAM EXPORTER WHO IS ACTUALLY THEIR OWN PROXY!!*
I recognize that fruit thing from the Avenger's Endgame intro when Thanos is gathering some for a soup he had simmering in his hut, right before those self-absorbed busybodies thoughtlessly just waltzed up onto his property, then proceeded to trespass and home invasion him, then interrogated him, maimed him by dismembering his arm, and ultimately decapitated him, so rudely when alls he was trying to do was kick them dogs up, lean back in his easychair n' relax with a delicious-looking stew made of whatever these spiky green apple things are 🤷🏻♂

@@kamelyoj3711but taste can be adapted also.. if u feed a kid Chinese durian for 2 or 3 years, he or she will grow up getting used to it. Also a lower quality durian can still be processed into foods like Durian puffs, durian icecream, durian cakes etc..

Down here we get to taste Malaysian, Thai and Vietnamese durian. Vietnamese durian is value for money. However, quality needs a little improvement. Malaysian durian far too expensive for average consumer. Thai durian meaty but abit bland in taste.
Although durian is a popular fruit in the Chinese market, however it is extremely rare or never seen durians from Vietnam, mostly from Thailand instead. The farmers even grow durian in Hainan province which is the second largest island of China.
Lasst year, Vn exported durians to China and earned more than 2,3 billion usd, this year Vn farmers can earn more than 5 billion usd from China, around 50% China market for durians. I”m sure they are very sad because they earn too much money 😂
Why i dont like my country ( Vietnam) to grow durian: 1. Too much chemical involved in the process of growing, that poisons the soil, the water, people health. 2. Too much water needed for irrigation, mostly ground water .. eventually not sustainable. 3. Deforestation, as durian trees prefer hilly landscape, people turn whatever forest left into plantation, especially in central highland. 4. Dependent on one market, which will lead to economic disaster. The recent heat wave is not caused by nature, its man made problem. We need to restore the forest, find more peaceful way to live with mother earth. We cant just run after money and be greedy with no limit. How much is enough ?!
there are alot of different kind of Durians in Malaysia, i bet u havent yet tried the real good durians, which only the locals look for. me for example, i prefer the ones with no name such as d24 or etc. they might not be famous, but they are certainly good
If it's not good, don't plant it. Both Thailand and Malaysia are willing to increase trade. Normal trade activities are consensual. It's not forced labor. If you don't want to, just stop and do what you like.
No They shouldn’t even compete with Thailand in Durian they should stick to their own Agriculture and Dominant products! Has Thailand competed with Vietnam on their Dominant Produce???
South China Morning Post and CNA align themselves well on China matters - turn good or neutral issues into bad, bad into worse. The affected editorial staff members are filled with CIA trained agents so doubt.
Can't Vietnam build their own reservoirs within their country to store water instead of only depending on the Mekong river for fresh water? Funny how people still have to draw water directly from Mekong River for their own daily use. Seems to be lacking in infrastructure.
The Vietnamese government prioritizes modern infrastructure in Northern Vietnam and they only want to develop Northern Vietnam. I live in the Mekong region. Southern Vietnam feels unfair to the people.
@@OniK3TV.Maybe because you in the South worked with the Americans to murder millions of own people, vietnamese? You don't feel any shame in helping the Americans slaughter your own people?
Why China customers like to spend big money on durians, cherries, wine, beef, lobsters etc? Because China have universal health care , university education and pension scheme. China also has cheapest public transport , electricity, water in the world. For example, people in Shanghai have higher disposable income than people in Tokyo.
Human. Keep taking from nature, when the problem occurs then attempt fingers pointing. Vietnamese should learn from China by sacrificing some land for mega reservoirs instead plus ignore outside influences once the project is doable in long term gain vision.
Good for Vietnam for overtaking Thailand and Malaysia in just a few years. Malysia cannot produce much as land is in the hands of political devils and racist policies. Farmers are at their mercy if returns are good. Now with lots of Durian supply we can again look forward to some cheaper fruits
The lack of water is killing Vietnamese Mekong delta. So durian is first victim of this water shortage. China with its hundreds of dams upstream, Laos ‘dams, and sea level rising are contributing to Vietnam current water problem. In the near future, Cambodia with China’s finance will dig a canal from their Mekong portion of the river to divert additional Mekong river water to Vietnam. Vietnamese rice and fruit farmers in the Mekong river are screwed.
