@@DeeDaKaang1 Basketball has some dumbass rules like that. It's an unwritten rule to stop playing hard whenever you are beating the other team by a blowout. We've seen dudes get in fights because the winning team will do something flashy like a crazy dunk while winning in a blowout. Always thought that rule was dumb play hard until the game is over we the fans wanna be entertained and we are the ones who make them multimillionaires for it.
@@SamuelJ888kinda apples and oranges though, Ohtani plays one sport 2 ways, Deion played 2 completely different sports. Although I don't doubt Ohtani could play football too, or pretty much any sport if he trained, the guy is a freak athlete.
Deion is the man who literally had everything he ever possibly wanted, and realized that meant he had nothing at all. Glad he eventually found his inner peace.
This is the best breakdown I’ve seen of his two sports career. At the end of the video you start to get a lit numb to hearing all the accolades he was able to accomplish. Never new he didn’t go to training camps for most of his career just to be the best player in the league and win super bowls
What? Best player in the league? This poser was a below average MLB player, and in football only won when he was on the rosters of stacked teams. With the Falcons, it was his arrogance that brought headlines on a lousy team. No more, no less... Guy is still over-rated, and pretty dumb too. Bo Jackson otoh, was a real two sports star. Heck, he would have beaten Sanders in track and field too. By a tousand miles.
Nah its an attempt in trying to tarnish him in a way and painting a picture of someone he's not. This is the equivalent of being a male witch. Real men don't do things like that.
The thing about Deion is that he knew his value as a commodity and that he only had a short time to make as much money as he could. Not only was he smart about it but he was the first major athlete I can remember who represented himself not as an athlete in it “for the love of the game” but as a straight up businessman.
The teams treat the players as a commodity, so it's only fair that the players treat the team as a business. The only ones who don't see it are the fans, and that has to be in order for pro sports to exist.

Idc what anyone says, deions dedication to play baseball, then fly to play football, and fly back to play baseball says enough. He didnt want to let his teammates down and wanted to win. Haters say its an ego, they were upset someone from another sport could just come in and dominate easily like he did and gain all the attention
I saw him at Cinergy Field with the Reds. He got a hit and then immediately stole second. The entire stadium felt his presence on the field. He was lethal on the basepaths - yes, he was fast but he also understood the cuts of the field, he hit precise angles like all good baserunners do. The next day he played football for the Cowboys.
. &&& My husband and ii saw Mark McGuire inn St.louis against the Detroit tigers 2001 . . . It was a good game .. same year mark retired from baseball then all that steroids stuff came out about him . but nonetheless we never got the chance to see Deon play and we've been to Atlanta a few times over the years . . . . .
like him or hate him, Deion is one of the most incredible athletes of all time dude played DB in football and Wide receiver AND played baseball during those years. Also ran track in college and now is coaching and revitilizing a program. truly one of the most amazing athletes of all time.
Gotta give props to Deion for not being scared to market himself appropriately. Very self-aware and it was to his benefit in the long run. He has had the "Prime Effect" his whole career!
It's amazing how talented some of you RU-vid documentary creators are. I just watched a great 30 minute breakdown of the WW1 armistice on some random channel and then your (equally amazing) video came up next randomly on my autoplay. The videos you guys make on your laptop would have easily been popular specials on ESPN or The History Channel 20 years ago.
Anymore it feels like some of the ONLY good content is here. The only good reptile/animal content is from channels like NERD or Clints reptiles here. Everything on animal planet now is just "worlds deadliest river dolphins of NEw York" or some shit. Feels the same with sports commentary. Jomboy does a better and fairer job analysing interesting plays than the MLB network analysts do, Foolish's rankings and prospect evals are easily on a par with MLBs. Theres channels like this doing full length docs. Its not all this high quality or this reliable on YT of course...but you can definitely find good content from a trustworthy source for nearly anything on YT with not even a ton of effort. I just don't feel cable tv is the same...
@@GizelleQuant Sorry, it was so long ago. About once a year I’ll be driving and have the random thought “wait, why did WW1 start again? And who shot Archduke Ferdinand? For what reason? And why did America get involved?” Then I have to watch a video or go to the Wikipedia page. It’s such a contrast with WW2 where its hard to forget why we had to fight Japan and Germany.
The NCAA and FSU had to come up with the “Deion rule” which meant that players for a school had to do the bare minimum and actually sign up for classes at the university to play.
@@MM-lg4ni my cousin said he had two D1 basketball players as chemistry lab partners who were in class twice the whole semester. He did all the labs by himself and the basketball players received the same grade. He say they would hook him up at parties though.
Generally speaking I’m with you, but like I do appreciate that baseball still has way more dignity than other sports. Unless things get chippy it’s mostly just “tip your cap and get ‘em next time.” But tbf, when you’re dealing with the old timers you act a bit different. Like you wouldn’t talk to a WWII vet like he was your classmate in high school. It’s just a different dynamic. I think the guys have a problem when there’s a lack of respect for the people who came before you and the sanctity of the game itself.
It's always random clowns who aren't really baseball fans that say this. I don't see anyone saying basketball players are divas for not wanting the other team to dunk when the game is already over, or football players being divas because the other team played hard during a kneel. There's a culture to every sport.

it’s crazy cause he was an all state basketball player, sprinter, and high jumper in high school .. this man was the athlete of all athlete .. combination of smarts w skill and unequivocal speed n athletic ability 💯 prime was the 1 .. everyone was too busy hating instead of appreciatin the greatness in front of them
The physical stamina required to do all of that is incredible. But to me, surviving the emotional toll that life must’ve taken on him is even more mind-blowing. I can’t imagine how someone has the stamina to do all of that, whilst also being the biggest personality in both sports.

Im glad that the culture around baseball has changed from what it was just 3 decades ago. Deion's accomplishments should've been celebrated at the time because it is insane for someone to play at the highest level in 2 drastically different games at such an elite level. Baseball is probably the hardest sport to play because of how hard it is to hit a baseball consistently when its coming at you at 95+ mph with high spin rates and all that. Then you add football on that as well and it sounds made up if there wasn't video footage of it.
He did get recognition for it at the time. Especially when he went to the Braves, considering how popular they were in the 90's. He also wasn't the only guy doing it around that time, you had Bo Jackson too. And tbf, Deion was a platoon lead off hitter. What were they supposed to do, throw a parade for him, or give him an award?
But I don’t think he could have ever been an elite baseball player and that is why he went to football. His better sport was baseball. I think Bo’s better sport was football.
@@unkledoda420His speed won’t work as well in baseball if he cannot hit. Football the speed helps because you can outrun guys, but baseball you have too many other factors for that to matter.
He really didn't belong, which was probably why his teammates ended up not liking him. He was using the sport they love and play for a living as a negotiation tactic and a second fiddle to football. It was very smart but I'm sure some players found it disrespectful
I was always a fan as a kid. I still have some old autographed pictures of his from when he was on the Yankees, and also when he was CB for the Cowboys.
Glad i was a pre- teen late 80s/high schooler through the 90s. Witnessed Prime, Bo Knows, MJ, Ken Griffey Jr. Nolan Ryan, Montana Etc. What a time for sports. Being in Texas too- the Dallas Superbowls, The Warren Moon Oiler teams, Houston Rockets won a title, My HS team won a state title, etc
Growing up a cub fan in the 70s I saw some of the greats. Hank Aaron hitting # 702, Lou Brock, Roberto Clemente,Pete Rose,Tom Seaver, Willie Mays (older) ,,the big red machine, good times indeed

Because baseball HAS the history. It has the traditions that go back over 100 years, it has the gentleman's code. It reminds me a lot of rugby. There is a level of respect that you do not cross the line of. Yes, the game is changing for the better and people should be allowed to be more expressive, but it is called America's Pastime for a reason. Deion was objectively not a great ball player. He had a career OPS+ of below 100 - and thats being generous. He just was not good enough to back up his silly antics.

His athletic abilities and gifts prove that either you got it or you don't. My man missed extended periods of playing time, practices, and camps, only to return and still be productive on the diamond and the gridiron. Legendary sh#t!!!
I gotta admit, Deion was better at baseball than I used to give him credit for. I only realized this when I saw someone online arguing that he was a better 2 sport player than Bo Jackson, and that he was even better at baseball than Bo, to which I reasonably replied that it was an absurd assertion. Which I still think is true, Bo was definitely a better baseball player than Deion. But after looking at the numbers, Deion was definitely better than I thought.
@@resmartedextremely athletic, great speed, good defense. Not much on the offense. He wasn't awful though, I used to think of him as a baserunning/defense only guy, but his offensive numbers were passable.

Bo and Deion weren't drastically different overall from a WAR perspective. Deion had 5.5 career WAR in 9 seasons, 641 games and 2325 plate appearances. Bo had 8.3 career WAR in 8 seasons, 694 games and 2626 plate appearances. Neither ever really played a full season (Bo played 135 once). They both had speed and defense. Deion was just your typical old-school lead off type while Bo had power and a strike out rate on par with some guys nowadays, maybe even worse (career 32% SO rate). I laugh when people say Bo would've been a HoFer if not for the hip injury. That's kinda like saying Joey Gallo is gonna be a HoFer.
I mean you’re not wrong. 99% of my Deion sanders playing baseball knowledge comes from my dad or RU-vid. He’s the one who actually told me about that reporter story recently which was hilarious. Wish I got to see a guy like him play two sports at such a high level man.

I’m old enough to this time when Deion was playing football and baseball in Atlanta and I just remember being a young kid thinking how awesome it was to see that he was doing both but then seeing as an adult that he got so much criticism for it when I think other players, who probably would’ve done, the same thing would get praised for it I thought was interesting

I feel like no one knows Elway was courted by the Yanks you should consider that story for another time. He was using it to avoid the colts which he was right - they moved picked up and changed cities soon after.
there's some like Eddy Alvarez, the 2B who has a Speed Skating Gold Medal, Brandon Aubrey the NFL Kicker who was a MLS reserve team player. But I too doubt we'll see anyone play in two top leagues at the same time like this again

Man, watching Deion at that time was a sight to behold. He was incredible on the football field, like just head and shoulders above nearly everybody else, and he really was a solid baseball player too. I remember the day he played both, dude was something else.

It should be noted that Deion only had one good year in the majors. I don't think it had anything to do with football, I just think he wasn't a very good hitter. Having said that, Scheuerholz did absolutely throw him under the bus when he benched him after Deion made a titanic effort to make it to the playoff game.
It was the right call. What Deion was doing was highly irresponsible. You can't just assume you're gonna make it to a professional game on time when you started the day on the other side of the country.

I know who Bo Jackson is. Bo is a more decorated football star, but Deion isnt far behind him in accomplishments, but Deion was clearly the better baseball player. Not mentioned, when he threw the water on McCarver, he accidentally threw some on actress Halle Berry. She was married to Dave Justice at the time. Justice went after Deion in the club house briefly and teammates had to separate them. The whole water on McCarver was crazy.
McCarver absolutely deserved it. I'm honestly surprised Deoin didn't deck him. McCarver publicly trashed Deoin so much it was ridiculous. When he agreed to help the Braves in the playoffs, even though he wasn't under contract that time of the year and wasn't getting paid, he wanted to help his city and teammates, yet McCarver said he was selfish for doing that. I was very young when he was in the limelight. I feel like this video helped make sense to a misunderstood man. I'm glad you created this video about him. There was so much I had no idea about him, I remember him playing on the Skins since I'm a DC fan - but that was about it. He was a highly talented person and I feel like the persona he adopted on the field to garner a reputation backfired on him. The Dione we see on the field and on camera is not the same man driving off a cliff and swallowing a bunch of Tylenol. I'm glad he's doing well. He's a headcoach at Boulder, CO. He's on good terms with his family... still seems to be struggling with the women in his life but I think we all share that problem. 😅

This is super relevant to the story that just came out about Deion backing up Alabama in the CFP instead of FSU, even though he’s an FSU alum. He was basically like “it’s all a business, baby!”
Just about every single MLB/NFL/NHL/NBA player played multiple sports in high school, and were most likely dominant in those other sports. They just all end up focusing on a single one because it makes the most sense in the end. You can't realistically play two professional sports at once.
Growing up in the 90s in Atlanta, all we wanted as Braves/Falcons fans was for them to keep Deion in Atlanta. He was the most loved player. And these GMs and organizations just couldn't put their egos away. It's a shame, he is still an Atlanta legend.
I think he was an EXCELLENT athlete that could play any sport he wanted to at the highest level and perhaps an even better businessman. His negotiation tactics are legendary. That having been said I do feel playing two sports simultaneously was detrimental to his teammates and the franchises/fans respectively in Atlanta. Trying to play three consecutive games in ATL-MIA-ATL is maddening
The thing with Deion was that he could back up his words. That's why he won 2 Super Bowls with the 49ers and Cowboys. Why he got to play in 2 World Series and played baseball even though didn't have to. Hellm even said baseball was harder especially when it comes to hitting a ball and being consistent.

Deion is truly one of one. I don’t think there will ever be a player like him ever again with all the focus that dedicated to one sport from trainers starting in high school. He is not even a generational talent he is the only one that will ever exist doing what he did in my opinion.
He wasn’t even the only athlete of his generation to do this… Bo Jackson did both, and was far better at baseball. Bo was a all-star and pro bowler at the same time.
@@ed379 I know about Bo Jackson until I started playing madden and they had their alternative positions players. So imo there will never be anyone as famous who did both and was as good at both in my opinion. For me I knew about Neon Deion Primetime Sanders even though I was born on the 2000s. It’s just my perspective and I feel fairly certain in saying there will never be anyone who can do that again.
Deion Sanders was an incredible athlete and part time was a really good baseball player, capable of amazing games. I am a Yankees fan, and I really wish the Yankees could have made it work. I was lucky enough to meet Sanders during spring training when he played for the Braves. Deion Sanders could do it all.
I was a teenager in the 90's and was a 3 sport Varsity athlete all 4 years in High School.. Sports was my life both playing and watching.. I personally thought it was awesome that Deion was playing both professional BB and FB at the same time!! I hated his Ego, but loved the athlete that he was..

It too faced a similar decision to Deion Sanders coming out of college. Decided to buy Madden that summer instead of MLB the show, but boy was that a tough decision
He is one of the greatest athletes ever. The problem for management is that they wanted a 100% full time commitment that he could not offer to either league, which caused him to bounce around teams in both league. I am a fan of Sanders but dont think its possible to have two masters.
So misunderstood. Guy just wanted to live his dreams and play two sports. The ego of the GMs couldn’t handle him not bowing down to their wants and they tried to take it out in him.
Baseball, specifically traditional baseball reporters, tend to hate of guys who arent the norm. Guys like Acuna and Tatis are hated on, all the while making the game fun. We see guy's often come from the worst poverty, to rise up and become legends. They are juat thankful and enjoy their blessings knowing they made it. I dont get why it gets the hate man. I also hate that any reporters have a say as to who is elected to the HOF.
He was good. To be honest, I feel like we had a natural hatred because it kind of meant that "baseball was easy" so much that an egomaniac football player would come to our ranks and become one of the best at the time. It sucked because the whole media was saying he was going to be embarrassed and that did not happened. Which makes me ask myself, who had the biggest ego, he or us as baseball fans hating him because we didn't want our baseball ego broke.

I didn't know anything about Deoin Sanders, despite hearing his name as I was growing up. I just figured he was a top athlete. I has no idea that this was between two professional sports. The real thing that got me is that from what I'm gathering, he might just be one of the most impressive men of our time.
It's funny because I've watched at least 10 short documentaries about him playing both, and it still amazes me. Me wanting to be like him as a kid is the reason I played both, wore a headband around my neck, and wore #21. I still remember playing Pop Warner football then getting dressed in my moms car to go play in my baseball games. Lol. Good times.
