I said the same thing about Belichick joining the squad. I'd like to see Bill run the Defense and perform duties as an assistant HC. I think the two minds would break the NFL.
It's not likely that Bill B is gonna play second fiddle to anubody and why would he he has 6 superbowl wins. There are six teams without a coach or he will retire. If I were him I would retire and become a football talking head.
I've been calling for Belichick to run our defense since the whispers started in New England. If he wants to win more rings, with Shanahan's offense and Belichick's defense, it's almost a lock for a few years Plus, if he wants to stick it to Brady... Why not join the team that Brady never could
After I moved to the Bay area a few years ago I became a devoted and sincere 49er fan. I lived originally in Connecticut and I was a Patriots fan. Even after I moved to Tampa Bay -- no, not with Brady -- I believe there is wisdom in having Belichick as an experienced intellectual asset of well-proven worth.
Nooooo Bill Belichick, he rules from a position of fear and intimidation. that’s an old way of leadership and I don’t think it works with today’s players. Maybe some respond to that but it’s a diminishing returns as time goes by. I acknowledge that he’s a good coach, but I don’t like how he’s approached coaching.
It comes down to how well everyone works together If he wants to step back, they all get along, and he still has a strong desire to coach And be a coordinator again It would be worth investigating
He is 70? Maybe he is burnt out. No desire or energy to start over new team new building new everything. He has to move....it might be too much too late
For you spring chickens out there who are dismissing this idea, let me drop some history on you. Bill Belichick shut down the West Coast offense with Joe Montana at the helm on two separate occasions in the playoffs. He then went on to shut down John Elway and Jim Kelly's K gun offense in the two Super Bowl runs the Giants won in that time. The biggest obstacle to this potentially happening is, is Bill going to be able to relate to the players that we have on defense right now. Bill is a sourpuss and those guys really feed off of positive energy. Do I think it's worth a phone call? Absolutely. And by the way, Mike Shanahan and Bill Belichick go way back too so Kyle would have respect for whatever Bill has to say regardless of egos.
That is the most outlandish comment by a 49er content creator in a very long time!!! Do you know why he will be head coach in the NFL next year. He's 15 wins behind all time leader. It might take him 2 or 3 years. He is driven to get that record. Jason La Canfora said he would be in the Pats front office. How did that work out? Belichick is waiting for Philly and or Dallas to lose in the next couple of weeks and then the pressure will be on to replace their coach with a win now coach not only to win right away but to break that record.
What's Larry smokin'? I want some. Starting off with insights from LaCanfora? The guy is right as often as a busted clock. Still, the circus of grumpy Trumpie Belichek in the Bay would sure be entertaining.
This is insanity. You’re talking about all these older HCs who stepped backwards as a DC and OC position - but we’re talking about Bill Belichick. He would not be a DC no matter what. Not even a consultant. He ran his own show - and it would never be lesser than that. Teams with vacant HC positions don’t even interview him - they’re just hoping he just says yes to them - that’s how wanted he is.
He would want to prove to the league, the world, that he could win a Super Bowl with another organization. He is going to want to be the head coach of a team that's close to being a Super Bowl contender. Seahawks,Chargers, Raiders, Titans, Eagles, Jets, Falcons, or Commanders. If the Eagles don't get to the NFC Championship or exit early in the playoffs, Nick Sirriani might get the axe. Out of all these teams, the Eagles are closer so they could get Belichick and make a serious run next season.
bill has a lot of miles on them tires... that actually makes sense, taking a step back, good warm weather compared to the doom and gloom weather of new england and when he wins retire in sunny california. sounds like a good idea
Sorry Larry that is a horrible idea. There is no way Bill Belichek play second fiddle. He has 7 Super Bowls under his belt. I could see Kyle being uncomfortable with Belichek under him . I could see egos clash. Putting Kyle in that situation is a recipe for failure.
This is a fantasy. It doesn't make sense 1---- Kyle sets the defense. Fangio would not come to the Niners because Shanahan wants a certain type of defense. Does Belicheck run that type of defense? 2----The current defensive coordinator would have to leave. 3 ---The 49ers defensive players were drafted and have a skill set advantageous to their type of defense . 4 ---The change of defensive style would require drafting to that particular defensive style 5 ----This would require a rebuild of a couple of years. 6---- For this to happen, the defense would need to be the ones to lose the Superbowl
Larry, I usually rely on you for reliable reporting and value your opinion, but this one's even more ridiculous than some of the click bait nonsense Grant comes up with. Bottom line, Belichick will NEVER work for Kyle in a million years. If Belichick isn't going to be a HC, he will be in an NFL front office in some capacity as a GM, President or something similar, not taking a coordinator or assistant coaching role. Wouldn't even surprise me if Belichick and Nick Saban team up somewhere. Other than Walsh and maybe Gilman, none of those coaches that you mentioned even belong in the same conversation as BB.
I don’t see it happening because in the end it’s Kyle’s defense. Same reason Niners didn’t hire Vic Fangio. I see Bill linking with a new HC that needs that veteran experience to help out. Similar to what Sean McVay did with Wade Phillips and Mike McDaniel with Vic Fangio. It’s not that Bill wouldn’t do this. It’s Kyle wouldn’t want this.
