Blackmagic Cloud puts your DaVinci Resolve 18 projects in the cloud so
multiple users can collaborate on an edit together from anywhere in the world. When you paid it with a Blackmagic Cloud Pod or Cloud Store Mini it's the perfect remote editing workflow as you'll see from this video. I teamed up from John from Here to Record to fully test out what using Blackmagic Cloud for remote editing is like, and take you through all the setups you need to set it up. Enjoy!

Thanks for this valuable info. When I created mine just now and paid the $6, it shows a yellow caution symbol and says 'incompatible'. All I am trying to do is to to bring my projects within my local database into the cloud server. Any suggestions on what to do?

Hey Alex. How is the blackmagic cloud pod any different than just making a team account on dropbox, and having the local files sync to each user's individual computer SDD?

Does it support remote rendering? Can I kick off a render in BM cloud an carry on locally while it render?

Alex, this was an excellent video. Thank you. Does the cloud pod read form the originals located on some external source and generate only the proxies it needs on the cloud pod for sharing ? Or do you generate the proxies locally with the "proxy generator" and extract and save the new proxies to the cloud pod for project sharing ?

Just finished a cross-continent collaborative edit project - it was super helpful! In our case, we just used Microsoft OneDrive for the storage and sync (we already had OneDrive so sharing a folder and setting it to always download to the local machine was easy). The locking behavior was a bit confusing at first - they could do a bit more work to make that more visible and perhaps add a more discoverable "unlock" button. That said, I don't think we could have produced this video to the same quality in the same period of time (between Atlanta and Dublin) without this feature! Also, YOURS is the clearest description I've seen of the sync/lock/unlock behavior so THANK YOU!
@jaredsmith418
@jaredsmith418 Год назад
This is so encouraging to hear that someone is having success with it! I guess I'm still confused though; does your editor in Dublin have to download the entirety of the clips utilized in the project in order to edit? With our projects, they are often upwards of 200GB, and I can't imagine any remote editor of ours wanting to locally download such a huge file.
@KenRossPhotography
@KenRossPhotography Год назад
@@jaredsmith418 The short answer is "yes" - everyone working with the assets needs to have a local copy, which is where the need to have OneDrive, DropBox, etc. comes in [doesn't matter which you use - Resolve doesn't care]. Now, to make it practical for large video clips, this is where you'll want to look at generating proxy files. With proxies, you only need to share those much smaller low-res files and just keep the original hi-res files on the machine that needs to do the final render.
@joanharmonize
@joanharmonize Год назад
@@KenRossPhotography Hey Ken, on the suggestion about Proxies, I guess that's if the collaboration isn't color grading. I'd like to imagine that grading with proxies won't give the best results or have I been mistaken all this time?
@KenRossPhotography
@KenRossPhotography Год назад
@@joanharmonize I imagine it would depend on how your proxies are generated; if the only change is the resolution [which is typically what you're shooting for], then I would think the color grading against the low-res proxy and applying that to the high-res original should work just fine. Should be easy for you to test out before committing to that workflow though.

Have you had any issues with the speed? considering the speed on the USB/Thunderbolt is 5Gb/s, doesn't that basically choke the 10Gb/s speed advertised? Or do I remember incorrectly?

Thanks, Alex! Really been waiting for you to get this done and very well done! 2 Questions: #1: Can you record directly from BMPCC6K to the 8TB Cloud Store? #2: Can you connect a BM MultiDock 10G to a BMPCC6K for recording BRAW and then connect a Cloud Pod to the 2nd USB-C port on the MultiDock 10G and essentially create a “cheaper” BM network set-up? I am keen to remove the step of connecting and disconnecting an SSD drive from my BMPCC when recording and uploading for my editor. Many Thx!
@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt Год назад
Thanks for the kind words Mann Utt! So to answer you questions, right now the BMPCC6K can't record direct to the Cloud Pod or Cloud Store. But in theory, in the future, cameras with an ethernet port (and maybe ones with USB-C Ports via an ethernet adapter) COULD record over the network to Cloud Pod / Cloud Store. Blackmagic hasn't announced this as a feature 'yet' but it is technically possible and I would imagine they will look to implement it at some point! For question 2, without having the kit here myself I can't say for certain. But I think that could work yes. It may be worth emailing BM support to check though. You've made me really want to test this workflow now though :)

What about plugins? Will all collaborators have access to the plugins that are used in the project, as far as being able to edit parameters, make changes, add plugins, etc? I can't find the answer to this anywhere on the web.

How do you cancel the subscription? I found it: In the web based project server there´s a blue dot next to the library name. Click it and you will be allowed to disable the library at the end of the billing cycle.

I synced a project from my client's pc to my system and edited it but when I add new graphics and music to the project in client's pc they don't get synced to my pc. They are offline even though the client pc shows that they are synced to cloud.

OBS is software, not a destination to record to. Depending on your settings the quality will vary

Is there a way to use Blackmagic Cloud to do the syncing? So without Dropbox or Google Drive? I'm looking for a solution that would sync the files between the 2 devices like you do but not clog up my Dropbox with lots of large media files.

I believe Blackmagic cloud storage is now supported by CloudStore yes. You’ll need a BM Cloud Storage subscription for the data though.

It works well even with the Dropbox app, you just need to make sure you have enough hard drive space on whatever computer is running the app :)

@@AlexPettitt And in this case if you had only 1 cloud pod it'd be best on the "origin" side of the setup right? That way it could generate proxy files and sync those to dropbox and a remote editor could potentially just have dropbox on their computer with a large internal SSD?
